The Touhou games have some amazing music :p
Final Fantasy VI
Touhou (7 specifically)
Chrono Trigger
Monkey Island 2, especially because of the transistions between songs when you move to a different room so that the songs flow into each other. I havent seen this in ANY other game and probably will never see it again since midi music isnt cool anymore
OOC: Why was the favourite ff song thread unstickied? :(
I am most upset that no one has mentioned Secret of Mana yet.
Don't worry Skyblade, Secret of Mana is at the top of my list!
Secret of Mana,
Donkey Kong Country 2,
The legend of Zelda: A link to the past + Ocarina of Time,
Golden sun and,
Dark Cloud / Dark Cloud 2/ Dark Chronicle.
Oh! I forgot the Shadow Hearts series! I love the music from those games.
I'm sure there are more that I love but those are the ones that always spring to mind when I think of my fav music.
Digital Devil Saga 2
Digital Devil Saga 2 - Battle for Survival
Digital Devil Saga 2 - Enemies Reborn (My favorite boss theme ever.)
Digital Devil Saga 2 - Divine Entity
Although a lot of MegaTen's tracks are awesome.
Devil Summoner - The Fated Showdown
Nocturne - Reason Boss Music
Nocturne - Normal Battle Music
Devil Survivor - Garuda
Plus one on the Secret of Mana love train. I was actually looking at videos of various groups performing the kecak dance recently on youtube, when one commenter pointed out the Dark Lich boss theme had the main part of the chant in it. I thought that was really neat.
Anyway, some good ones that I can think of off the bat:
EarthBound
Pocky & Rocky
Kirby Super Star
Grandia 2
Shadow Of The Colossus
Silent Hill
Fragile Dreams
I really love FFVIII's soundtrack, also both Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross, and the Silent Hill games had music that scared me. Which was the point.
Oh, this a new thread?
The Mario series always seems to have good music. Final Fantasy IX is the best. I like just about all of Super Street Fighter IV's character themes. Super Smash Bros. Brawl is epic though with about 300 songs.
I've always been partial to this music personally. :mog:
The original is better in my opinion
Final Fantasy I-X, XIII
Dark Cloud 1 and 2
Chrono Trigger
Chrono Cross
Some Zelda songs are good, imo
Smash Bros. Brawl (Thanks for reminding me, Depression Moon)
Threads of Fate (Thanks Jessweeee♪, now I need to replay the game)
I'll add another for Secret of Mana. It is just brilliant!
Also Seiken Densetsu 3 was good.
Lastly, Final Fantasy IX.
Super Mario RPG also has a great one.
YouTube - Super Mario RPG Soundtrack: The Merry Marry Bell Rings
Neir as a game needed some work but it's soundtrack was beautiful. A few songs would bring a tear to my eye. Most of the tracks are on youtube so just search under Neir Soundtracks. :greenie:
Edit: In fact, Song of the Ancients
The Final Fantasy soundtracks go without saying.
As for others: Persona3 and Persona4 both had rather awesome soundtracks iirc.
For some reason I'm struggling to think of them tonight, which is balls.
But I do know that Wild ARMs 3 is one of my favourite soundtracks of all time FOREVER.
Nier ist ultimate. I would not say for sure that I love the soundtrack as much as I do love Final Fantasy VI's and VII's soundtrack but actually they are on par for me. At least Nier ist my favourite RPG after The Compilation of Final Fantasy VII and shares the 2nd rank together with Final Fantasy IX in my list - actually even rank 1 since I do not need to count The Compilation of Final Fantasy VII anymore.
BUT Nier has the best theme as Final Boss Theme of all the time TOGETHER with One-Winged Angel. And that mean's EVERYTHING for me, because both are not only the ultimate Final Boss Themes but the ultimate Themes themselves:
Nier Original Soundtrack - Shadowlord by Emi Evans:

an old-ish thread but whatever
I've always been in love with goldensun music, its just so... sexy
YouTube - Golden Sun "Saturos Battle Theme" Music Request
YouTube - Golden Sun Isaac Battle Theme (Long Version & Good Quality)
OH! i can't forget this gem can i?
YouTube - The Black Mages : Clash on the Big Bridge
I have always loved the sounds of MARIO and CONTRA....

Since no-one's mentioned them yet, I'll throw in the the Hymmnos songs from the Ar Tonelico series :p Plenty of vocal tracks in those games, which is kind of expected for a game where songs/singing have a fairly central part of the storyline (no nothing to do with pop-stars and such :p ), and a wide variation in styles too :p I'll link to a handful below:
YouTube - Ar Tonelico - EXEC_CHRONICLE_KEY/. With Lyrics
YouTube - Ar Tonelico - EXEC_PHANTASMAGORIA/. with Lyrics
YouTube - Ar Tonelico II - EXEC_SPHILIA/. with Lyrics
YouTube - Ar Tonelico II - EXEC_with.METHOD_METAFALICA/. with Lyrics
YouTube - Ar Tonelico 3 EXEC_EP=NOVA/. with English lyrics
YouTube - Ar Tonelico III - EXEC_COSMOFLIPS/. with Lyrics
YouTube - Ar Tonelico III - EXEC_Z/. with Lyrics
hey played battlefield:bad company 2....
its sound is also super cool.

Final Fantasy X and Kingdom Hearts 2 are the ones that spring to mind immediately. Also, Tony Hawks Pro Skater 2 was the absolute :bou::bou::bou::bou: back in the day.
Silent Hill 2 and 3 are magnificant. Valkyria Chronicles has a good soundtrack too. Heavy Rain has some magnificant pieces. Also, if you count Visual Novels as games, then Clannad's soundtrack is a masterpiece
theres one game that inmediatly pops up when the words 'good games' come up:
Tomb raider (the old games, not the new ones :o)
Though this has more to do with personal value.
i remember how much fun i had when my dad played these games, and id sit next to him just watching and thinking along (he was doomed without me haha!!)..
Besides that Resident Evil 5 pops up. i think the game is amazing, played it like 10 times =D..
What a find a - point about this game is the fact that u cant play it online properly.. if u play the main story with a random person than u always get rushers... Ppl who upgrade theyre weapons to hell, and rush through it to get a good time etc etc... it ruins the fun completly!! i personaly dont care :bou::bou::bou::bou: about throphies, records etc. i play for fun and the story.
Playing with computer isnt the best either caus it just doesnt do what i want xD..
so in that case im doomed to play this game only with my neighbour xD haha.. we make a good team :3
To Zanarkand - FFX
lol all the sudden i see im totaly off topic :D haha
I'd say my favourite videogame soundtracks would be:
- Vagrant Story
- Final Fantasy XII
- Final Fantasy IX
- Final Fantasy Tactics
There's many more, but overall the music from those games is what I listen to the most if I'm in the mood for some RPG music!
Does it have to be from FF?
in that case:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vnCkgbZilbI
If not than also:
YouTube - Resident Evil 5 OST - Majini Battle 9 (Fire Zone)
i just love it somehow :) and since i used it in a film even more :D
i even put it on my ipod on accident :o but i dnt feel like taking it off xD
Off the top of my head:
Final Fantasy (NES and iPod versions)
Sonic The Hedgehog 1 & 2 (Genesis)
Sonic & Knuckles
Phantasy Star
Phantasy Star II
Phantasy Star III:Generations of Doom
Mega Man 1, 2, 5, 6 and 7
Strider
Final Fight
Mega Man X
Mega Man X4
Sonic Heroes
Art of Fighting
Bionic Commando (NES)
Lifeforce/Salamander
Glad Sonic got a mention :)
Pretty much repeating here, but:
Final Fantasy (VI-X)
Sonic the Hedgehog (1-3&K)
Kingdom Hearts
Shadow of the Colossus
Also have to throw in:
Metal Gear Solid (1-3)
God of War (1-3)
Also, I feel that burnout takedown deserves a mention, it's soundtrack is smurfing fantastic.
I've turned out to be a huge fan of Jack Wall, so: Myst III + IV, Mass Effect 1 + 2 (Stand by for addition of ME3. :) )
Highly notable others:
Xenosaga I + III (It's not improbable I added XS3 because of the contrast to XS2 - Yuki Kajiura showed with all the certainty you could ask for that she can do more than generic anime J-pop, which warmed my heart TREMENDOUSLY. Especially considering how dreadful the non-cutscene music in XS2 was...)
The Witcher 1 + 2
Riven
Total Annihilation
Dark Reign: Rise of the Shadowhand (Yes, the EXPANSION - not so much the main game, though that certainly didn't suck either.)
(No FF-title on this list for the simple reason that there's SO MUCH music in each soundtrack, and always a good deal I don't really care for. I'm judging the total impression here, not single tracks; otherwise, FFVI's and VIII's end credits would be on the list. Alas for Esthar and the Auction House.)
Vagrant Story - Wyvern, Ifrit and Dullahan are the best.
Heroes of Might and Magic series - Perfect
Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind - It has unique tracks that suit the environment well.
Chrono Cross and Final Fantasy IX in my opinion.
Chrono Cross OST - Time's Scar - YouTube
Chrono Cross OST - Star-Stealing Girl - YouTube
Chrono Cross and Chrono Trigger have incredible soundtracks too.
From Chrono Cross I love the Garden of God
From Chrono Trigger the music that plays in 2300 A.D. on the world map.
Final Fantasy 6 has some good ones too.
Final Fantasy 8 - The Salt Flats and The Extreme
Aion has really great soundtracks.
There are so many soundtracks that are my favourites, can't even name them all.
Now THIS is a nice piece of nostalgia!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B8IHzz576CI
Tomb raider 3
I'm surprised that there's no mention of Castlevania: SOTN...
Castlevania SOTN - Lost Painting
Castlevania SOTN - The Tragic Prince
I'm actually going to go the arcade route here. I love lots of different video game soundtracks, but two that I think are really good for their time are Darius and Truxton II. Unfortunately, the majority of Darius music was removed from Youtube, but here's an example of something from Truxton II:
Truxton II - Stage 5 'Still Love You'
Call of Duty 3 (black ops) dynamite sound !
Other than Final Fantasy music (I'm a huge Nobuo Uematsu fan. My friends and I went to Distant Worlds twice. Also saw Earthbound Papas at Onicon. ;.; ) .....
- Persona 3-4 soundtracks, particularly these songs.
- NieR RepliCant/Gestalt, particularly these songs. And this.
- Gitaroo Man soundtrack. I like "The Legendary Theme," especially. Both versions.
- I really like the Skyrim theme. And "Lonely Rolling Star" from Katamari Damacy. As well as "600AD" from Chrono Trigger.
- I play some other rhythm games, too, so there's an assortment of DDR/IIDX/DJ Max songs I really like and listen to outside of the games.
Yes to both of those. XD
I'm also in love with this version of the Skyrim theme. And Malukah's version of "The Dragonborn Comes."
I'd say SoM and Chrono Trigger are so blatantly obvious they don't have to even be said.
Other than the obvious: FF5, especially Clash on the Big Bridge and Dear Friends
1- Solider Blade especially operation 5
2- Bulk Slash's staff roll
3- GuyBrave 2
4- Sapphire
5- Lords of thunder: Dark tower stage
6- Illusion City especially the intro but i like remix more not sure if it is official.
Some more favorites:
Legend of Dragoon: This soundtrack is underrated.
Chrono Cross: CT is best, but this one is awesome too.
Baldur's Gate II: It's epic. Even character creation is epic.
Xenosaga: Not the composer's best, but still damn good.
Kingdom Hearts: Despite how I feel about the series, the music goes well with all the environments and it totally works.
Morrowind: Skyrim and Oblivion have okay soundtracks, but constant feeling of being an outsider and not belonging is excellent with this soundtrack.
Arcanum: The music is just violin for a good deal and it's awesome.
I'd say that I like the Persona 4 soundtrack, but really, I'd broaden that to all things Shoji Meguro - most of the SMT soundtracks are fabulous. :3
I really like the Wild ARMs and Wild ARMs 3 soundtracks too. Some awesome tracks in there.
The Suikoden series are gorgeous too.
An unexpected contender for great OSTs is Kirby's Epic Yarn. I mean this is amazing. xD
Phendrana Drifts has a place in my heart all to it's own!
Medievil Soundtrack 15 - The Crystal Caves
I just love that one.
Xenosaga 3
Ar Tonelico
Umineko might not quite be a video game, but rather a Visual Novel. But the last episode has some small minigames, so I will consider it close enough. And daaamn, do I love the soundtrack. Dead Angle, The Executioner, Mirage Coordinator... and many more.
The soundtrack of "Golden Sun" and "GS: The Lost Age" never fail to floor me. So damn good, with too many outstanding tracks to list.

I have to say, overall I honestly think Sega and Capcom has the best music in their games. Or at least had.
Oh man, I still dig the Drakengard games' sound tracks, obviously the Final Fantasy soundtracks, the Zelda series, the Sonic series, I don't know of a good game with bad music. xD
Everyone here is terrible which is why nobody ever talks about Baten Kaitos despite Baten Kaitos being an amazing JRPG.
One of the many amazing things about it was the godly soundtrack that puts to shame most Final Fantasy scores.
BEHOLD!
http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.ph...ic/BatenKaitos
FF soundtracks aside, I really enjoyed the Silent Hill franchise Soundtracks, particularly the ones from 2-4. The lead tracks from each title are perfect for the games!
All Final Fantasies, (FF7 if I have to choose one)
Xenogears is an overlooked game and the soundtrack is overlooked as well.
Brave Fencer Musashi has some weird connection with me :D
And Sonic 2 has to be up there. Fun, epic, and nostalgic.
Since apparently embedding a video wasn't working for me like all these fancy people ^

Literally just discovered this thread. Basically, anything from the Professor Layton series, particularly the ending themes. Absolute bliss! I have this on my Ipod Nano and listen to it to drift off to sleep.
Iris (Instrumental) - Professor Layton and Pandora's Box
Paxmaveiti (Instrumental) - Professor Layton and The Spectre's Call
Heavy Rain - Simplistic ballad. I like when movies compose a song and have different variations of it throughout the change of tone and scenes. Heavy Rain did this as well, and fit since it more of a cinematic story driven game.
Final Fantasy X - Really the real answer is basically anything composed by Nobuo is my favorite video game soundtrack, but in particularly I find myself listening to these songs slightly more so than my other favorite soundtracks, FFIX and FFVII.
Silent Hill 4 - A great score. I actually loved 2's soundtrack as well, but the diversity of this one was highly appealing. I love Akira's music; especially when he does lyrical ballads to break of the monotony of the instrumentals.
Phoenix Wright - Good for low bit music. I like some of their jazzier songs.
Absolute Nr. 1 is Final Fantasy VIII. No other game has such a great quantity of really good tracks. Skipping the rest of the FF games, the Ace Attorney series has some very catchy tunes as well.
Genocide 2 + MIDI synthesizer :

(if you're not a fan of the slow build up it starts picking up properly around 4:20)
Whilst we're at I might as get some WoW up in here:
(even though that fight on heroic makes kittens cry)
(walking in for the first time and getting our asses handed to us whilst this was playing is still a moment of epicness)
(them feels)
(one of my favourites from all the expansions so far)
Whelp... that should give people enough listening for a while - and that's not even a complete list xD
Karazhan is the best WoW music. Period.
WoW's music is amazing. Especially if you put surround-sound headphones on.
Now I want to play WoW again. Curse you! D;
Aion 3.0 OST Tiamaranta Siege Most epic siege music.
So if you haven't played this game imagine that you're in a coastal isolated US town surrounded by woodlands and evil creatures related to C'Thulu are coming in along with an eery mist from the sea. The start of this plays occassionally whilst you're exploring around and as it ramps up it's the combat/boss/big elite guy music.
So much done with what's originally quite a simple melody.
EX Exbein from SRW OG 2nd <3<3<3
Cammy white theme (Super street fighter VI).
Ryu theme (Super street fighter VI).
Chun-Li theme (Super street fighter VI).
