Thought I would share some of mine, there aren't many because I was pressing the wrong button for like a week... :eep:
I stuck two fingers up to the benchmark test and installed the game anyway, but it only just barely runs at a workable framerate on such low settings that the graphics quality doesn't look dissimilar to a chimpanzee's nutsack, and I'm too ashamed to take any screenshots.

Central Thanalan screenshot with a clear view past Black Brush all the way to Ul'dah, with map to show my position compared to those two locations. 1 minute, 40 seconds jog to the gates! I do enjoy the scale of this game, and how even with the scale you can still see Ul'dah dominating the landscape from such distance.

Since it won't be around forever, I figured I'd throw something in to show off the Hatching-tide event. So far all it involves is us holding onto eggs for about half a day before we add another egg to our collection. When we have a few, we trade them for an egg-cap of some sort. But there's a patch going on tomorrow which will be a 'development' of sorts, everyone suspsects, to show what else can be done during this event. Interesting that they aren't just doing what they've done for all previous events, where it was just a case of "if you go to a bell every 24 hours, you can get an ingredient for an event-related item/gear."

The engine isn't as fluid as the build found in FF XIII. Even though both are using Crystal Tools 1.1, FF XIV seems to render thing much slower and with slightly less detail. Anyone else notice this or is it just the nerd in me lashing out??
It's because MMO's are built very differently. Whilst they'd be using the same engine, it'd be completely customised to the point where it isn't the same engine.
In saying that, it kind of feels like the programmers more or less just did a really dodgy job.
Given that no other MMO has been made to such a scale when it comes to quality in graphics, and as far as I know no other MMO uses Crystal Tools, I'd say it works pretty well, personally. It's certainly not perfect, but it's hardly shoddy. For the speed at which things download to your PC, I imagine that is predominantly due to how much they have going back and forth to the server. I understand that if anything, too much data is stored server-side that could be stored client-side. Not sure exactly what, but yeah.
Yeah your right about graphical quality. Just saw some gameplay videos from The Old Republic and it doesn't impress me...graphically. SE has always placed graphics presentation as a top priority in their games and it shows! FFXIV is probably the best looking MMO to date!
You guys should maybe check out Tera or Blade & Soul, at least the environments. They wipe the floor with FFXIV's, not only in quality but in actual design.
How do they manage to do that while still having everything run smoothly? And why haven't I heard of them before? Surely a game like that would be huge if it were working well.
EDIT: Ohhh, both are still in development.

Ah. Have you played recently, out of curiosity? I can't remember when I last saw you in, but the lag hasn't been bad for me for a while. Oddly, if I play for the first time in a week, it still stutteres a little when I walk around Ul'dah, but after about a minute or two it behaves again. If I play daily, it's fine. I wonder if there's a cache involved or something.
But yeah, the lag has improved considerably, although as I said, it's hard for me to compare with what the game was like months ago.

I've been playing on another server with a friend and his linkshell, and it is a lot more fun than when it was first released. I have been fine for the most part, but I can still definitely see how some newer players (especially those coming from World of Warcraft) might need more guidance in what to do in lower levels.
I also am going to make a Roegadyn on Lindblum to play with you guys. :)

I was exploring in La Noscea and decided to go to camp Bald Knoll, which was tricky since all the monsters were aggressive and could easily kill me in one hit. Got to the camp, headed north and saw this.

From what I understand, every monster has been beaten in FFXIV so far (Ifrit was finally defeated yesterday, I think). Those mobs that do not have levels are Notorious Monsters, and they are dotted around the maps - Danielle and I tried to fight one the other day and survived a short while but didn't really make a dent in his health, only about 10% before I told her to run away, sacrificing myself like a true tank should. :pQuote:

Yeah, it's Print Screen. If you want it without widgets (eg. chat window etc) then hold Scroll Lock and press Print Screen. It saves to My Documents\My Games\Final Fantasy XIV\screenshots\ - I think! Going by memory here. :)

I became a recruit in each of the grand companies and just happened to do the Limsa Lominsa on first but stopped when they told me to got to Coerthas since I didnt know where it was. So then I started the Gridania mission but this happened:

This is what happens when you dont follow the path in Thanalan and try to take a short cut to camp drybone. What was really annoying was that I used my last anima to go from Camp Emerald Moss to Gridania then got an airship to Ul'Dah then a chocobo to that shortcut that was full of level 80 monsters. Then my return function took me all the way back to Emerald Moss.
Anyway, from the camp I saw the path to Coerthas and took these:

That place is beautiful but a real nightmare for someone at my level. Everything was level 30+ most of which had a red star next to their name, there was a beastmen encampment and two notorious monsters. I only got a pick of the really big one, the other one looked like a Spriggan. So I doubt that it was very notorious.

So, today I went to La Noscea and after a while found Upper La Noscea, which I now hold as the most beautiful zone in Eorzea. I decided to stop off at Bronze Lake, my new sanctuary of choice. Time to take off the ol' armour and relax! Check out these snaps!
First thing I did was hear the sound of a rushing waterfall amongst the springs, so I skipped the normal pools and nipped down to rest underneat the rushing warm water.

Enjoying the class a lot so far. Fun to have flexibility in emergencies to help heal or call out topaz carbuncle and help tank if tank dies. Sadly my orange eyes don't show up very well after the images are compressed by imgur, think they make the char.

I just got my battlemage armor after a million dungeon runs. Was super pumped.

Of course, it was a long, hard battle. I eventually found myself taking a nap by the fire, trying to keep cool. I didn't realize how cold the desert would get at night... (You probably can't notice it, but I also have a lovely Cactuar earring. I am wearing it as a memorial to the four Cactuar I brutally murdered so I could give their blood to a greedy merchant).

Your pics all look great, face. What's your computer set up? I have my graphics adjusted to the highest computer settings and the lowest game settings, so when I play it looks slightly dated.
I have a fairly nice MSI gaming laptop, though I definitely don't have everything up to maximum. My graphics card is a 2GB GeForce GTX660 which does the trick.

Scotty, do you have a retainer yet? Get yourself a retainer and you can start making more money! I recently bought my own room in the FC by spiritbonding and selling materia! Easy, easy money! Granted, to do spiritbonding you should probably be level 50, but if you have items you aren't using you can spiritbond them and sell that materia!
How does materia work by the way? I see the name all the time, and I feel like I did a quest that mentioned making materia, but I don't remember actually learning how it works. It's very possibly I did and it just happened to be a day where I had a lot of distractions though. I do have a retainer though!
With materia, it comes from your gear that has been 100% spiritbonded. You can see the spiritbond % by hovering over the item and looking to the bottom of that little window. Once it's at 100% you will be given the option to 'convert' it. When you choose to convert it then it will become a piece of materia, usually materia relating to the stats that were on the gear. i.e - if you convert crafting gear you will get crafting materia. Sometimes you will just get elemental materia though.
The materia has levels, so I II III IV V - obviously the higher the level the more valuable. The most valuable ones that I have sold have been level 3 and 4. You can attach materia to your gear by melding it. You have to have a level 20 craft however, but you can also request that people meld for you. You could request me to meld some materia onto gear by right clicking and finding the option!
