I'd go to...Hmm. This is actually a tough one! If I could control a character, I'd control Terra so I could find a way to make peace between the Espers and the humans so that espers could walk freely amongst the human world if they chose.
Gau. Being strong and living in the wild while prancing around half-naked 24/7 seems awesome.
I do not identify directly with any character in Final Fantasy VI. If I had to choose a single character, I guess I would choose Locke, Sabin, or Gau because I cannot relate to the rest of the cast for various reasons.
