If I become a white mage, will I be loved?
There are no white mages in this game. Closest is Conjuror, which starts out more like a blm but gets access to cure.
I still have no idea what the hell a Thaumaturge really is.
You could do what Danielle is planning on doing - Conjurer and Thaumaturge, and combine the various healing spells of the two to make a white mage. But you'll have to do a lot of work over the months/years on sorting out affinity and whatnot.
How on earth can you form successful groups without a white mage? If you have to go through even more trouble to create a healer, besides the fact that they are physically weaker.. doesn't that sound a little broken?
It's a different game to FFXI etc. and therefore has different dynamics. There are still cure spells, just not "white mages". Conjurer has Cure, Poisona, Raise etc. but also has Fire, Blizzard etc. as well. Sort of like a red mage but without a sword.
How do you play without an out-and-out white mage? Well, you heal pretty fast when you're not fighting, there are a couple of warrior abilities which allow players to gain HP back mid-fight (Bloodbath, Second Wind) and you can always just level up Conjurer to level 4 to get Cure and then switch back to another class and put Cure onto the action bar list. Such is the way of abilities in this game - you learn them in one class, you can use them in others too.
Having white mages will inevitably be a requirement for large parties though, that goes without saying. That's why I mentioned leveling both Conj and Thaum, although it should be noted that Thaum's spells aren't as white-magey as Conjurer's are. There is however Sacrifice (use own HP to replenish many other's HP in a Regen style), Ressurect (Raise for Thaum).

Well I was going to pick the Lindblum server but it seems its not a choice right now.
Looks like im going with the Fabul Server instead.

the game gave me a list of servers to choose from and lindblum was not on the list.
I can't find the news entry at the moment, but basically when certain servers are congested to the point that there are regularly more active players on it than the others, then they won't show up on the server list for a while. When this happens, if you want to be on Lindblum and it's not showing up, the best you can do is wait an hour or so and try again, sadly. =/ But yeah, I know that they come and go and also that they're adding more servers to balance it all out. Lindblum is one of the more active servers, something like 4th in overall popularity or something, but hopefully when you guys try to register it'll be there before too long passes by.
People are still registering onto Lindblum on a daily basis so I can only imagine it won't be long before you need to retry...

Your Lalafel looks cute. Sometimes when I see them they look cute, and sometimes they look like creepy little children from that one movie about the creepy children. Do they look a lot more like Tarus in game than first thought? I really loved my FFXI Taru but I don't want to be a creepmeister!
After you talk to a few of them, the 'cute' bit generally gets thrown out the window. Some of the storyline characters have a penchant for swearing and their talk is more "drunk blacksmith" than "kid-show character".
They don't really remind me of Tarutaru's as much as I thought they would, and as Bob said they certainly talk more like an adult. I don't think I could stand to be a Tarutaru again though, and feel the Lalafel are a good step forward.

Hey can we setup times guys? I was on last night and completely failed @ smithing and I wanted to do some leves teamed up, but everyone was offline. I'm on most weekends (morning, maybe afternoons) and some week nights (late...near midnight)!
I think the best time to arrange times would be when the next big patch is released (looking to be July now :(), as I know Danielle and I are holding off until then before playing again. :) Not sure about everyone else, though. I only sign in now on for the very odd bit of crafting.

Did you get this figured out in the end? Sorry, I didn't notice the post! But yeah, if you still need to know, you can do the first of the class quests once you are level 20 for that class. As for the guild itself, you can get guildmarks from level 20+ leves and you do not need to officially join the guild (at least, I don't remember having to!). You might need to be level 20 in order to use the guildmarks, although I'm not sure on that.Quote:

Well I ended up signing up just before May ended, and started on a server with a bunch of friends that I had been playing FFXI with since 2005 (along with Ouch) and we made a linkshell called Phoenix Down. Unfortunately I'm on the Aegis server, so I won't be playing with you guys. :(
