The Video Game Game! ['80s Throwback]
-
I'm not even gonna try this one. I can't take another public humiliation!
Good luck to all participants, though. I'll be watching you.
-
Man, you've got a good lineup here. I was really stumped on a few of them. I'm still trying to figure ten out.
-
Lol @ 25
I actually have most of these on my Xbox. :monster:

Your overall championship points will suffer for this! I encourage you to give it a go, you should be able to get at least one! :)
-
-
-
I'm sure Google had a hand in that.
-
I'm pretty sure on about 15 of them. I guessed on a few others though so we'll see
-
I actually remember these from 30 years ago... >.>
-
Didn't know #2, and couldn't remember which one in the series #16 was.

Haha. I'm recognizing many of them just from being a emu-retro whore and someone who reads too much about gaming history. It doesn't seem unlikely that someone might have them available for emu on an old Xbox. For instance, 15 isn't a game that I've played, but rather I recognize it from articles I've read (on a site that will remain nameless for the moment) about RPG history.

:roll2 I have hundreds of games for most systems up until PlayStation on my Xbox.
-
I refused to Google my confirmations. So I may have missed points guessing a game was one in a series when it was in fact its sequel. But I only recognized one sequel in the list, so it seems to focus more on original titles. But who knows. I may have lost some points due to not Googling even though I kinda knew the answers. I decided to play fair and go strictly from memory. And I think 3 of them I only knew thanks to Spoony and AVGN lol
-
I have 7 of these on my NES.

Of this, I am jealous.

Damn it, I just randomly re-watched Game Trailer's Castlevania retrospective, and they pointed out one of these games >_> And I totally got it wrong (and no, I'm not talking about a Castlevania game)
-
Sorry about the delay, but everyone should have their results back! I was fairly lenient despite the original post, except when it came to NCG who I gave no quarter to :colbert:
Looking good so far guys, but need some more guesses!
-
You mothersmurfer. :doublecolbert:
-
Dammit, now I don't know if I did well because I'm awesome or because I'm not Julian. :|
-
I got that :bou::bou::bou::bou: already, he's just making me super precise. :colbert:
-
To clarify -- Bunny was awesome, I was a prick, Julian got them after all. Justy is still the winner at this point!
-
Because some people are wanting a hint for #20, I will give you a hint.
It's about dragons.
There.
-
I knew maybe ten of them? haha
-
You should guess then, because you wouldn't be losing! :p
-
I don't know if I'm gonna play this one because i only know, like, four of those games.
-
But foa, it will jeopardise your chances of winning overall! Four is better than zero!
-
How many installments? There will be an overall winner?
-
Dang it. The text adventure got me. I could only remember the letter the name started with and knew it was short. But I remembered the wrong short game name that started with that letter. An episode of Big Bang Theory reminded me of the correct title. Oh well
-
Feel free to submit another guess Vyk, it's not over until tomorrow!
NCG there will be an overall winner. Instalments are going to be every month until December, unless I get super keen to do two a month. So you're running out of chances for points, comrades!
-
-
Shouldn't this game be done by now?

Man, that game is awesome. I introduced my wife to it about a year ago. We'd play semi-co-op in bed. I'd do the typing and let her give the directions and we'd discuss things to do. It was dark in the bedroom... it was like that we'd be eaten by a grue.
-
Yeah yeah hold yer damn horses. When I've had an 18 hour day, the last thing I want to do is stay up another two hours revealing the winners of this! Entries are now closed (well done Vivi22 on sneaking in) and the revelations will be here momentarily.
Unfortunately don't expect anything fun or interesting this time because my internet speed is approx 4kb/s
-
First up, the numero uno game is the very very well known Metal Gear. I was impressed with the number of correct answers on this, by far the most well known the entire line up! Apparently receiving a re-release soon, so keep an eye out!
Second was a little known game called Jump Bug. Personally never heard of it before, and it apparently entailed using your VW to jump and collect/kill stuff. Oh the golden age where you didn't really need a watertight premise to make games!
Our last place recipient, who scored a decent 7 out of 25, is Rantzien. HOWEVER, because of his sheer determination and courage, I have deemed him the official '80s Throwback Bestman. If you have a problem, beat it. Rantzien is a hero.
-
Game Number Three is one called Commando. I imagine it was somehow related to Rambo. Guns, guns, dead guys, guns, guns. You know how it goes!
Game Number Four is Castlevania II: Simon's Quest. Some people tripped up and said the original Castlevania, and I can't remember whether I gave them points or not, but I was consistent at least. That's what you get with a whimsical judge :greenie:
Game FIVE ALIVE was Metroid. You all know Metroid, right? It's the one with that guy Samus. Wait, what do you mean it's a chick? Bull:bou::bou::bou::bou:.
-
I interrupt my own broadcast to tell you that the official soundtrack of this competition is In Our Heads - the MAYDAYS because it is my smurfing favourite song right now I mean it's made by an EoFFer and everything. Check it out, links up in Relm's Studio! You will now be returned to your regular viewing schedule.
-
Game Six is arguably one of the most recognisable games OF ALL TIME. Donkey Kong. With everybody's favourite Mario playing the lead role before he was great, Donkey Kong is probably the game with the most sought-after high score thing. You know. Everyone wants to be the best like no-one ever was.
Game Number Seven is another classic in Pac-Man. Did you know he was originally going to be called Puck-man? Of course you did. You've all watched Scott Pilgrim and knew it before then anyway. smurf-man would've been a clever name also, but not very p-c.
Our next runner up is DMKA with 11 points. Not a bad effort at all, and every point goes towards becoming GRAND CHAMPION. Although with some of these other competitors, it's going to be a challenge!
-
Game 8. It had an axe. An axe of gold. It was also the answer to one of the brain teaser boxes in Levian's Video Game brainteasers thread! Check it out and try your luck at an even more difficult game! Oh yeah, it was Golden Axe.
Game Nine was Yie Ar Kung Fu! What a stupid title. Seriously. But I guess punching the crap out of people is fun no matter what!
NUMBER TEN. Phantasy Star! I didn't even know it existed back then. But there you go! It wasn't a very helpful image, but some people got it! :3
-
Number 11 was a good one. It has a long title, and I made NorthernChaosGod give me the whole and complete title or risk losing points. Payback for apparently cheating :monster: But 11 was none other than Digital Devil Story: Megami Tensei! No MegaTen moment for NCG unfortunately :greenie:
Number 12 was, well, it was Final Fantasy. If you missed this, you're silly! But we all remember it, the beginning of a legacy which has brought with it many pros, cons, arguments, and of course, this very forum. Pay your respects!
Next in line was theundeadhero! He scored 14/25 which was just over half way, a great effort. He owned a lot of these games too, so if you want some retro action, be real nice to him!
-
Thirteen was the game which had a suspiciously large amount of influence on our previous game. It was, of course, the original Dragon Warrior. If you said Dragon Quest, I gave it to you, because I'm not a jerk, but a harsher judge might have judged you incorrect!
Fourteen was The Bard's Tale. Don't know much about this one at all, except that it probably has a bard in it who tells a tale. There's also undoubtedly a pub/inn. All good games have a booze house.
On 15 points each, we have Vyk and latecomer Vivi22! A valiant effort by both of them. Good work and good luck for next time!
-
Game 15 was Wizardry. Bunny informs me it has a subtitle of Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord but I am not aware of this fact. Still, have a pat on the back for being super precise.
Game 16 was Ultima I: The First Age of Darkness. I giggled because they both had skeletons and I thought it would trip everyone up. Unfortunately some of you still got them right. Jerks.
Game number Seventeen was Prince of Persia. Before he had scarves and claws and a bad attitude and was the prince(s) we know today, he was some dude running and jumping and swording in a labyrinth castle. Actually sounds pretty familiar :p
18 was Kung Fu Master! Another fighting game, I thought it would trip people up by being similar to Yie Ar Kung Fu. It didn't work, but it was still good to have another game where you beat the crap out of people!

Did other people get away with MegaTen?! You swine.
-
Number 19 was King's Quest: Quest for the Crown. King's Quest sufficed, but Bunny wanted to be extra right. I love making you people go to great lengths unnecessarily, it makes my day :) (iluBunBun)
Number 20 was... NOT TELLING. I'll do that one at the end :D
21! It was Bomberman. I didn't know he was blowing :bou::bou::bou::bou: up before the 64, but so he was! Good work my bomb loving buddy, good work.
Twenty two was Zork. It has a subtitle, but nobody cares because it is smurfing Zork. Everybody knows Zork. Except a few people, which is alright because it was just text :greenie:
On 20 points was Guardian XIII. What a mighty effort from a mighty guy! But, he came up short and didn't quite repeat his previous performance. Good luck for next round!

Apart from FF and Pacman, yeah :p Pretty sure someone missed DK :p Which makes it the best excluding the ones everyone should know. I should've been clearer, but w/e you get that

Just checking.

TWENTY THREE! The Legend of Zelda. Bust your ocarina out and play us a tune, someone. Link's first adventure was a good one, and spawned a legacy not unlike that of Final Fantasy. Except it didn't rip off another popular game iirc :greenie:
Twenty Four gives us that one. The one that caused the great crash. ET The Extraterrestrial. What a balls game. Seriously I want to dig up that landfill and individually break the :bou::bou::bou::bou: out of them. :monster:
Twenty Five was of course the original bad game (unverified), Custer's Revenge. It had everything! Dodging arrows, raping women, doing it all again. Quite a, uh, interesting game, to be sure.
ON TWENTY FOUR POINTS and narrowly missing perfect runs were: Yeargdribble, Rase and Bunny. Great great effort, it's pleasing to see you get stuck in guys! :D
-
Which brings me back to number 20. Only one person got it. It was none other than Dragon Slayer II: Xanadu. Sweet name, no idea how good a game it was. But it was a good challenge for you all so I'm glad I included it!
And, of course, that brings us to the winner. We all know who it was. The determination of this lad to be perfect is commendable. I struggle to find words. While I'm doing my best to make it hard for him, he's doing a great great job. Congratulations on 25/25 to NorthernChaosGod!
-
That wraps up this '80s Throwback edition of Jiro's Guessing Game. Thank you for participating. We had smaller numbers this time around, but hopefully next edition will prove successful! Feel free to send me ideas on themes to run!
In a few weeks another round will pop up, so keep your eyes out for it and experience the wonder. Not sure what it will be yet, so everyone's in for a surprise!
Peace out

And Justy dont forget Justy
-
Do tiebreakers count toward overall score?
-
So who'd you get to give you answers this time?
-
-
Tiebreaks don't count. Otherwise the people who don't tie for the lead are at a worse disadvantage.
I did forget Justy. Justy got 30/25 so is therefore champion :monster:
-
I will trade my 30 points for nudes
-
So then Bunny and Eric got the same amount of points for the last one as I did? :(

NCG might want to purchase those points.

Of course they did. Tiebreaks just establish the winner of the individual contest, not the overall championship. Tough luck :p
