Has anyone here played any of the disgaea series? I almost never meet anyone who plays them anywhere I've lived. Well I have always been a big Srpg guy so fftactics and disgaea can entertain me forever, anyone else a disgaea fan here? :monocle:

I've never played but I've heard good things from a few of my friends. I was thinking about borrowing them but I'm not sure if I have the time to play them.
Edit: Waitaminute, this isn't General Gaming.
I've got Disgaea2 and I must say it's pretty sweet. I'm overwhelmed by the sheer size of it though. I mean, the item dungeons and being able to level up over 1000 or whatever it is. It's just craziness!
I do like my team of ninjas and samurai though :jess:
Never played 1, and couldn't play far into 2.
I then played Makai Kingdom, which blew Disgaea 2 out of the water. I loved it so much.
Disgaea 3 was awesome as well. Mao is one of the funniest protagonists ever. The only big issue I had is a lot of the last few maps were more about figuring out the Geo Panel puzzle to win the battle then actually playing an SRPG, though it's only a handful of dungeons that do it. On a whole though, it's definitely good enough I'm eagerly awaiting Disgaea 4, though I wish they'd give me a Makai sequal on PS3 sometime.
I've seen some people spend over 900hours on disgaea 1, I'm so not doing that. The max level is 9999 and on the 3rd one as far as I know, there is no damage cap.
Pretty much the amount of end-game content with getting the best gear, making the best gear the "best" you can optional bosses etc it can easily take up a few hundred hours.
See I have this little completionist bug in me so when there's a game like this that I know I will never finish completely, it makes me weep a little inside :(
Just keep the completionist bug at bay if you ever attempt the post-game part of disgaea 2, or you will lose a large portion of your social life if you aren't careful.
Playing Disgaea is the perfect solution to those who have a completionist bug. It completely broke me of the habit. Good thing too, I'm older now and don't have that much time to be spending on video games anyways.
I love the Disgaea series, I've played all 3. I can't say the combat can really hold up to something like FFT, but the characters are all very entertaining. Which is a hell of a lot better than the writers attempting at a serious storyline I couldn't care less about.
I guess I should give Makai Kingdom a look. I've played La Pucelle Tactics and Phantom Brave and didn't get to completion in either. I kind of figured that Disagea was NIS's flagship because it was just flat out better than their other titles. (Not that either of those two games were bad, I just have little time and am incredibly picky when it comes to SRPGs.)
Guess I didn't think of that, I've gratefully never had that bug. I'll look up some makai videos/reviews to see if I'll buy it or not, I haven't played many NIS titles so I have no idea how they stand up to disgaea.
Disgaea = love.
I have played all 3 Disgaea games and they are truly awesome games that everyone should play atleast once, I've been playing Disgaea for about 7 years now same save file and I can say that I am determined to do everything, atm I can handle Baal (the toughest boss in the game) who has a level count of 4000 and I can kill him without having to steal his awesome armor/weapons (but I still do steal them cause they are just awesome) and I don't bother to use Laharl or either of the storyline characters I have a team of 4 Paladin 8 Divine Majin (best non monster fighter in the game with s rank in every weapon and 120% on every single stat) 1 Geomancer 1 Space Pirate. Everything you need lol though I don't always use the Geomancer though, just for laughs.
I miss my PS2.
Have you played any of the Disgaea versions for the PSP?
I want to, I don't have a psp yet so I haven't been able to. I'm interested in axel mode though.
I absofreakinglutely love Disgaea. I own it for the PS2(x2), the PSP, the DS and I have Disgaea 2 for the PS2 and PSP and I own it's semi spinoffs Phantom Brave and Makai Kingdom (was so addicted I purchased them on their release date), I have the mangas and the character books that NIS released, prinny plushes, little character statues that are like 9$ and they're maybe an inch tall. I'm super addicted. I try to get my friends into the game, but it never works. :\
I'm probably going to end up in the hospital for malnutrition when the 4th game comes out in June.
Prinny Plushies are <3!

Ohhhh yeah~
Now if only they would explode when thrown.
I loved Disgaea when I played it. I quit after about 8-10 hours, though, because I figured out that there was no possible way I could do everything I wanted to in the game. It just doesn't happen. Not possible. Not even fathomable. I want to try. But I won't. I can't. I'll be back in a few weeks.
Youtube has just let me down.
There was no videos of someone making a real life exploding prinny
Ah really? That's a shame. Maybe it's high time for a video of it to go up. Now... who's gonna blow crap up and record it for us?
Fireworks are illegal where I'm at right now, but this summer I might be able to do that for you. :D
Oooo joy now that would be fun to watch. Don't even try to explode a prinny baal though, he doesn't explode in-game when thrown so obviously that means it wouldn't work in real life.
Clearly.
>>> I played 1, 2 and 3. Lots of fun..:luca:
You're definitely missing out :/
So I've heard. 3 looks fantastic and the psp version of disgaea 2 looks sweet as well. Too bad I'm basically broke or else I'd totally have those at my disposal.
Though very similar I have no doubt that Disgaea entries have gotten better an better. Disgaea 3 was the first game to actually lure me into the massive time sink that is the end game.
That was what disgaea 2 was for me. Then it was disgaea 1 (though not nearly as much) when I got the ds version because the original version was just too... it had too many problems.
As each new installment has come out I've fallen deeper and deeper into the end game. I've gotten higher levels, better weapons and more mana, etc.
I go into the endgame until I get bored then I don't push myself to go any longer. In a game where it can take hundreds of hours to complete a part of the end game I don't exactly push myself to do too much.
I have to admit, I was an ardent complete every game 100% enthusiast until I played Disgaea. Now I have a much healthier perspective on end game extras.
It also started me on the habit of playing video games and watching TV at the same time. Now I think I have developed some disorder where I feel I am wasting my leisure time if I am only engaged in one medium at a time.
Come to think about it, it seems Disgaea has affected my life a lot more than I realized. :shifty:
Disgaea is just amazing enough to change lives.
Laharls laugh changed my life, it made me realize the villainous cackles of other evil dudes have nothing on him.
Sorry, he still has nothing on Kefka. That has to be the most wicked sounding laughs ever, and probably will never be surpassed as the SNES sound card didn't allow for anything other than inhuman.
You speak blasphemy.
Basically Disgaea is a religion that helps all. By telling them to lob explosive penguins at people.
Laharal and Etna are probably my two most memorable characters of any game behind only Solid Snake. They're a hilarious duo and I love both of them. I'll come back with a proper post on D.1 when I've beaten it.
You should have made it a trio, Flonne added to their hilarity. It gets better in subsequent titles.
>>> Calculating the hours of gameplay of the Disgaea games I have played..
Disgaea 1: about 200 hours
Disgaea 2: about 240 hours
Disgaea 3: about 370 hours
Result, I dont have a life..:luca:
I'm glad to see I'm not the only one whose game play hours went up with each new game.
