I like how they give us a holiday. Do people outside of the UK get the holiday? Perhaps in the Commonwealth, maybe?
Now that Kate's registering, I can finally say there is a royal family member that "I would".

:( I just checked, we don't get a day off for it...
I'd rant about who our head of state really is and that it's our right to get a day off for whatever is going on over there, but I'm going to bed! :D
I'm sure old Beth has still "got it".

Rawr!
When I first heard the news I was pretty happy for them, William seems like a nice guy and Kate is fairly hot. But man oh man, I knew it would happen but the constant news coverage over the last two months has driven me insane. Thanks for the day off though, it's a day less Jury Duty for me.
Mazel Tov.
What's going on with the royal family?
I don't get a day off from work. Morrisons are giving me a 'generous' extra 1/5 pay for me to work that day. Hardly worth the effort really.
When is the date of the wedding? Unfortunately we don't here in Ireland.
We don't get a holiday. Though, to be fair, about 1/2 Americans wouldn't get a day if the whole Eastern Hemisphere fell into the earth.
Extra day off work. Woohoo!
Zara Philips is better looking than Kate.
Also, I can't wait for the day a handsome prince sweeps me off my feet and marries me! Oh I wish I was Kate!
We don't get a day off here, but since we're on the other side of the world it'll be happening on our Saturday. I don't know yet whether we're getting live coverage, but I'm fairly sure it's being televised.
I'll probably be watching. I like a bit of pomp, ceremony, heraldry and grandeur.
General feeling here in the slums is lies somewhere between apathy and indignation that we should care about and celebrate two people from a family of unelected rich toffs who've never so much as stepped into the valleys in their lives, lest they catch 'peasantitis'.
I'll take the day off work though
its friday right?
This friday 23rd? its a free day for me anyway :) 'goede vrijdag'.. dont know what its called in english (good friday???)
im really curious ^^ so im gonna watch it !!
EDIT: btw, i cant recall if we (the dutch) had a free day when Willem-alexander got married?:O ... i dont think we did... did we?
William used to be so cute. The older he gets, the more he resembles Vader.
I think everyone over here is getting stoned or acting like they're getting stoned or complaining about the people who are getting stoned or acting like they're getting stoned.
We have more important :bou: to deal with.
I'm going to be having such fun on the 29th. Seriously I work in the Oxford Circus Flagship HMV you know the one with the protesters outside of it. And the Islamic extremists and the BNP ect have all decided they want to turn central london in to a warzone on the wedding day.
Still I gain an extra days holiday for working it but I don't get extra pay to go with.
I saw this exclusive exposé about how Kate dresses the same as some other royal chick. I mean goddamn the "media" have gone to town with covering everything royal these past few weeks. There was a whole story devoted to how Kate has been stressed and lost weight so she had to have the ring resized.
Glad to know that other countries besides the USA are obsessed with the insipid lives of celebrities.
Important enough that local news stations in the US took time out of the show to tell us about some casual dresses Kate bought on her shopping trip today. I guess it was better than their usual "hey did you know that you can say mean stuff on facebook and people will get mad at you for it???" filler.
My friends were telling me about how they heard coverage for this on NPR. I was pissed. :colbert:
I don't get a day off of work because I've university finals, so you all enjoy your days off while I'm sat in a (probably) blisteringly hot library fretting over whether I can stop editing my dissertation or something. I know some friends of mine are having a garden party which started off as something apparently ironic and is now involves so much stuff that it's beyond a joke.
I'm generally relatively ambivalent about the whole thing. I wish them well and think it's nice, but I'm really not that bothered by it.
I want a day off today :(
I've not been at uni for a month now, so I dunno if I've got a day off. Spending the day studying anyway, it seems. Fun times.
I don't care about some couple from some country I was denied entry into getting married >:[ Why the eff do i have to hear about it on my radio stations? Magazines have friggen barbies advertised that are supposed to resemble kate.
I love how America loves the Royal family more than we do :D You can have them back you know! Just sign here where it says "We hereby denounce the criminal actions of the rebels of 1776 and rescind our proclamation of independence from our rightful rulers in London"
No, the American media loves it. I do not actually know anyone who gives a crap.
.. im curious :3
How in the world did you get the idea Americans love the royal family more than people in the United Kingdom? Am I off base? I thought most of the sheeple on this side of the pond are too busy following Jersey Shore and Bieber.
I know there's a few people who follow some of the bigger drama, but for the most part I never hear about them in the news and I don't hear them come up in conversation very often at all. Are they really in the news that much? Weird.
Kate is fooooine. Work it, gurl. I can't wait till Prince Harry gets married and starts beating his wife. -_-
Kate Middleton For The Win
some of these are so hilarious i forgive you brits for the war eh wot
lol, now that u mention it..
i actualy havent hear alot here (in holland) about Kate untill i heard theyre getting married..
and than i heard theyve been together for 8 years? :o
They broke up at one stage iirc. Or was that the other prince and his scandalous behaviour. Not very befitting a royal pup!
No, we don't. We have our own royal family to obsess over.
The Royal Wedding Drinking Game on facebook. Language warning.
There's also one about starting a mosh pit and some other crazy :bou::bou::bou::bou:.
If people follow those rules, they will be dead by the end of the day.
Those rules are not made for mortal men, only Cuch.
I think I'm missing it? When does it start? I want to get hammered and die.
I got bored.
It's fun to guess where each of the foreign monarchs come from. I can't believe they let the King of smurfing Tonga in. :argh: Also, apparently you need to have a very fancy robe just to move a podium!
Ian Thorpe is the only Australian I've seen. Where is Julia Gillard? Who the smurf cares.
Two things: Kate looks damn fine, you work that. Secondly, I want Harry's outfit. Guys, hook me up. Andy tells me only the royals get the black and gold suits, so I need a female royal to marry.
Julia Gillard the woman who wants to make Ausfalia a republic? I'm not surprised she didn't end up on camera.
I was just BEGGING for him to say 'I take thee Rachel'
Quality occasion. Many epic hats and much fine architecture. I got home from a serious Scotch whisky tasting just in time to catch the end of the ceremony and the procession back to the palace. Nice excuse to lax out on the couch and wait for one's head to clear after a series of fine drams.
Have you people nothing better to do?
I have the little Associated Press automatic new update app on my iphone. In 3 days I've received one update about the death toll from the tornadoes in the south east United States, and NO updates about the protests in Syria.
I have how ever received 4 or 5 about the royal wedding. The last one was at 6 this morning to tell me they kissed on a balcony. :|
Failure.
Oh did I miss something?
No? Good.
Where is the obligatory Kate Middleton is hot comment? You guys are slacking.
As least one person acknowledged what this wedding is all about. Remember, a wedding is only as good as its bride. So I'd say today was fiiiiiiiiiiiiiine.
http://a323.yahoofs.com/phugc/23MyXf..._____DdVlw0L_g
The little girl is the real star.
Anyone who gives any smurfs more than 0 should be shot.
:O......
Yesssssss, something interesting about the wedding.
It seems to move and shift shape? Most likely because the person shooting the video is a smurfing idiot who can't stand still.Quote:
It seems to move and shift shape - but to have three sections, like the starship USS Enterprise from TV's Star Trek.
Well...it was a wedding. I watched it so I can say I watched it.
There is no news more important than what colour the Queen's hat was
smurf her hat
WHAT IS WITH MY LITTLE PONY BEING POPULAR AGAIN.
People tend to like ponies with rainbows on their asses. I for one do not. :shifty:
Sonofa... thats so ridiculous yet I completely believe it.
Some Americans think the british family are adorable. Stop being a buzz-kill.
I apologize but for one I have yet to find one person that isn't just annoyed by the constant coverage. I guess people are just happy that for once there's something on the news that isn't about the most recent death or robbery.
If you're annoyed by what's on television, you should turn it off
I don't typically ever watch television. Anyway why am I even arguing about this? I could go on for hours but there isn't any point if nothing will be resolved.
EDIT: and wait... I could've swore I was justifying peoples love for the royal wedding and the constant coverage of it at the end of my previous post. Did you by any chance miss that?
I for one find it funny how pissy people get over the notion that something admittedly trivial for them but nonetheless not bad news is somehow getting more coverage than the constant barrage of depressing news we have to be told about on a daily basis.
There's not caring and then there's going around telling everyone how RAGE you are over it. The former is fine, the latter just makes you look like a big grump.
I watched the whole thing, and I thought it was very sweet. Also, Kate and her sister are both gorgeous. Meanwhile Beatrice and Eugene, oh God, what the smurf happened there. Finally, it was nice to see the country be allowed to smile for once. For those that did not, don't worry, it only happens around once every thirty years. The wars and disasters, sadly, will probably go on for the rest of our lives.
Excited for the royal divorce soon to follow =)
Tru say, BoB. :3
ya i dont get it either wy some people are so mad about it...
if ur not interested in the mariage than atleast be happy that u have something to celebrate, and enjoy the day!!
i havent followed it becaus i had to 'work'.
i saw it afterwards on some other channels and from what i saw it looked a little too mellow.. i expected more :o
the balkony kiss? ... there was no passion at all :o (mostly) from Kate's side it looked like: "im only gonna kiss him now becaus u ppl want to!!"
But besides that.. she had a verry nice dress :) simple but effective
That's what I was getting at earlier, besides I never was really pisssy about it to begin with. I may have come off as raging but I wasn't even the least bit upset throughout that pointless argument.
Thanks for clearing this up by delving deeper into what I was talking about. (besides I don't remember mentioning "not caring" for the wedding recently because I know I would be spouting total bullcrap)
I think there was no passion because they are a very private couple. They don't like being in the spotlight. So they weren't gonna go into a full passionate tonguefest infront of millions of people
And that dress was far from simple. The detail on it was incredible! BoB summed it up with the disaster that was Beatrice & Eugenie though xD For once, it was a Royal affair which wasn't frumpy and full of doom and gloom.
I have to say, it amazes me how excited the Americans have gotten over it. You guys seem to care more than we do!
Overall, I'll be proud to have them as King & Queen of England. Especially seeing as, according to one newspaper, the first thing they requested as a newly married couple was a cup of tea ;D
To be honest, ive been living here for 15 years and don't care about the royal family, but its not like im against them either. I WAS very glad for the extra day off though, and our road had one of the biggest street parties in the UK I think. I mean, it turned into a full on festival rave!
Its pretty much a student only road, which was legally closed off and the organisers even got a booze licence.
I thought it was going to get lary later on, but didnt at all really, everyone was just enjoying themselves.
Gets really crazy around 5 minutes in.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q0B6AlgsgDI
Heh, the street party in Glasgow had to be shut down by the police. There was a firearms incident, supposedly someone died (unrelated to the incident), and some police had to be taken to the hospital. Glasgow sure knows how to ruin a fun time. :(
Does anyone know about any other royal families? All I ever hear about is England's.
Know of, yes. Know about, no. There's Spain, Norway, Japan, UAE, etc.
Almost everybody I knew stayed up for it (Canadians love Brits :D). Kate certainly was a beaut, so I would say that it was worth it :)
Maybe taxpayers have a different take on the matter though :p
Eh, we pay for them, yeah, but at the same time they bring in tourism and while the event may have cost a lot, the amount of money spent by tourists and the amount of money spent by the royal family (and the Middleton family) means they are giving a lot of the money straight back. So long as they spend the money we give them, I'm not that bothered. If they held onto the money, that would be a problem.
Pippa is alright too you know. I'm pissed at the news making out that Harry and Pippa are now getting it on. That's all kinds of weird.
Yeah, sensationalism can get a little tiring. Oh wow, they talked! They must LOVE EACH OTHER.
I thought Harry's missus was there anyway? Chelsea, weren't her name?
Yup.
Wtf is Harry and Pippa? Sounds like a man and his dog.
Great, another person who thinks Pippa is Harry's bitch. See, Jiro, this is just what we were talking about. :p
This is the greatest thing ever
I really wish we would dump the british queen and be an independent nation. It's been a thousand years already.
Every time the royal family visits my tax dollars get spent on them. Incidentally apparently tax payers did not pay for their wedding!
They don't need tax payer dollars, they are loaded.
People go to London... to see them? :|
They have a sweet crib
America would be rich if it switched to pounds
First we need to switch to the metric system. :p
Ahaha did anyone see that retarded animation of the wedding on the Daily Show?
We need to get them all to play Portal. The ensuing inappropriate remarks about cake would lead to a revolution far better than that one in France a couple centuries back.
I was looking forward to seeing the Palace when I went to London, but there are other things!? This trip just got more exciting. ;P
I never understood the whole 'the royals bring tourism to the country' argument. When I go to London, I see Buckingham Palace, not the Queen. That, and actual interesting royal appearances in London only occur maybe once or twice a year, so surely there would be no point in visiting London on the other 363 days of the year then?
I doubt there would be as much tourism coming to London / the UK for Buckingham Palace and other such royal locations if it were not for the royal family living in them and so on. Basically, Buckingham Palace is the place that people visit, but I imagine the royal family is what makes people want to visit Buckingham Palace (well, for the most part).
My wanting to see Buckingham Palace has to do with royalty, but when it mattered.
Yeah but that's like saying Aus owes all its tourist attractions to the royal family.
Not really. Aussie tourist attractions aren't ones you go to because of royalty. British ones are ones you go to because of royalty. The Sydney Opera House (I don't know if this is royal?), the bridge, that big high tower in one of your cities, the weird rock formation in the middle of the country, Seaworld-type things and Australia Park are why people go to Aussie. Not to mention the Great Barrier Reef and the many beaches and the hot weather.
What do people know Buckinham Palace as? "The place where the Queen lives." :p
EDIT: As for people who say that they visit Buckingham Palace because it's where the "true monarchs" lived - er, you do know it was only built in 1705 and only passed on to the royalty in 1761, yeah? Did the monarchy even use power then? I thought most of it went to parliament around those times.
France doesn't have royalty anymore, and people still visit the http://forums.eyesonff.com/images/smilies/boubou.gifhttp://forums.eyesonff.com/images/smilies/boubou.gifhttp://forums.eyesonff.com/images/smilies/boubou.gifhttp://forums.eyesonff.com/images/smilies/boubou.gif out of Versailles.
England doesn't chop off protestant/catholic heads anymore, but people still visit the :bou::bou::bou::bou: out of the Tower!
just sayin'~
[edit- you can't see it, but that first set of :bou:s are bolded]
[edit1- fixed]
I would love to see London because I love its historical places. Buckingham Palace and all the other places I would visit all at the same time FIRST if I had that kind of superpower :p
It was implied in the previous posts that due to the existence of the royal family, everything existed. So like, all the sights in London never would have happened if not for the royal family. If not for them, ya'll never woulda got on the boats to come here. It'd be like, Spanish or Dutch up in this joint.
Wtf hahaha. Nice. xD
I saw that, I think they did it on purpose.
Will doesn't have enough hair for that.
I think the Cinderella pictures' colours are edited. :P
Of course it is, Cinderella's hair is blonde and I think the prince wears like blue or something.
I must have misunderstood your last post then!
I don't think you did because I was just kidding around. :p
EDIT: I found a picture comparison.
