This is a thread for discussing X-Com and how maddeningly difficult it is and how awesome it is because of it. It is also a thread for people like MILF and Skyblade and myself to cry and lament about the so-called "new version" that is actually nothing like the original.

I am more of a fan of Terror from the Deep since it was the first one I played. Plus, I get to pretend to be cooler because I fight Tentaculats instead of those pussy Chryssalids.
This new one is going to be a first-person shooter? UGH. It may turn out to be a cool game, but where is my isometric grid-base, turn-based, time unit-managed strategy game of brilliance?
I saw the thread title and hoped Marick had made his long overdue return to EoFF X-COM. I was wrong. smurf you, Marick.

Unfortunately, I've had some problems running X-Com on DOS-box lately. Controls are too sensitive, and I wind up overshooting all the time. Very hard to control combat that way.
Great game though, and I would love to see it redone correctly. But Spoony's thoughts pretty much sum up my opinion of the new game.

I loved Marick's LP, and I was going to do an EoFF X-Com a couple of months ago myself and even had all these cool little graphics to use. I was going to split everyone into teams when they got off the plane (which is my usual tactic) and then chronicle how each little team fared in battle.

Aren't they neat? Then when I recorded the first battle it turned out all blurry (so I couldn't take screenshots from it, and the ones I took with FRAPS during the battle itself were all shrunken and tiny) and the file was a bajillion GB so I just lost all interest and effort. :shobon:

I wonder how many other Dwarf Fortress styled games there are. I feel like playing one now, but something with better graphics and maybe a bit more functionality. Not sure if such a thing exists though.

As for the Let's Plays I did a Civ IV one on Hux and I's blog already (although it wasn't too terribly exciting, I don't think), and I actually did start up a draft for a SMAC one but then I didn't like the way the game was going so I'll probably restart.
You know what I want to do now? EoFF Oregon Trail. Who wants to die of dysentery?
I was doing a LP but nobody cared because it was a WW2 grand strategy game with lots of numbers :cry:

I threw flags in as it seemed a bit empty and I didn't know what else to put on there :shobon: I thought about kills, but that's a bit confusing as people may mistake it for kills made during the mission? Either way, I think these look pretty tasty. Maybe we can fire up some inter-team rivalry.

I'm not too sure about the Tonberry colour scheme. I mean, it works, it's a smurfin' tonberry, but if I know EoFFers they may piss and moan about it because that's what they do. What do you think? Would you make a "OMG SO UGLY/CAN'T READ" post? If not, we'll keep it, and smurf the lot of them.

Yeah I was entirely too lazy to add new sets of data. The border gets a bit janky near the middle for some reason, I probably missed something when merging the two mini tables together and I cba to figure out what it is and fix it. The real thing won't have that. Probably.
I thought about adding more stats, like stuns, friendly fires etc. like you had in the other X-COM threads, but then I thought I really cba to keep track of those. It's up to you if you want them in though.
OMG! I don't even know how we would do that, but that sounds way more exciting than playing alone with no one else to shout "DAMNIT DP! YOU MARICK!"

Well, I have Fraps working with DosBox, I'm not certain how we would stream it though
