The Feud II (sign-ups and discussion)

Are you ready for the Feud? This will be the second ever edition of the forums edition of the Family Feud. If you were here last here when I first hosted this game, we had four teams of five members, and two games. Basically, this game is based off of the tv show Family Feud, so it should be simple enough to play, and I will do my best to explain once the actual game gets started. The actual game will be a new thread separate from this one. So look out when it comes out!

We are in the final week of July, and I figure now will be a good time to gather some players for the next edition of the Feud. I need 20 players. Once I find 20 players, I will then assign 4 random players as team leaders, and they will pick members of their team.

Hopefully you guys answered the survey I PMed on the first day of this month, but if you haven't already, it's never too late to reply. Just be sure to have them done by the end of the month.

I'll try to explain as best as I can how this game is going to be played.

Let's say you're playing and it is your turn on your team. You have a question that needs to be answered, and your team already provided a few answers and have one strike. You will be given 12 hours from the moment it becomes your turn, so if it's now your turn at this time, you have 12 hours from now to answer. If you give a correct answer, you give your team some points and it then goes to your teammate to answer. If you give a wrong answer, or take too long to answer, your team will gain a strike. If your team gathers three strikes, it will then become the opponent team's turn. When this happens, they have 6 hours to come up with an answer to steal your team's point for the round. They answer correctly, the points become theirs. If not, your team keeps them.

So, to answer your question about time sensitive, I guess the answer is yes, but I'm doing the best to give enough time since every player will not be on the same timezone, and I think 12 hours should be long enough to provide an answer. (Granted, I also have to play a role as the host.)

Arr matey, I be a capt'n. So what am I supposed to do?

As team captains, you will get to pick members of your team. Since we don't have a full 20 at the moment, you will pick 3 players to join you. The last member will be up to me from the players that sign up prior to now. You are also responsible for your team's name, you wouldn't want to be called "Team A" throughout the game, wouldn't you?

So, team captains, find 3 players among the signed up players. It will be on a first come, first served basis, so if their is a specific person you want to pick, do it quickly.

I'll play. I don't remember if I took a survey but I think I did.

I just saw the survey....but since I'm such a noob I feel like I'm at a huge disadvantage as the questions pertain to people on the message board? :O_O: I thought it would be more like, questions about real life answered by the members on the board. (eg: How many pairs of shoes do you own? or Favorite flavor of ice cream?)

Anyway, count me in, I'll give it a shot if people don't mind a noob on their team.

Yeah, there's no right or wrong way to answer the survey I provided. If you can't provide an answer, it's alright to answer, "I don't know."

It's EoFF/Final Fantasy themed for a purpose of this game. The next one, if there ends up being a next one, will probably be more like what you expected.

You know, I get the feeling I'm not the only one who gave a very awkward answer to one of those questions. :p

Though, I did assign Aug. 1 to be the date to start play, but it seems that we're ahead of schedule, so I might start the first game this weekend! We'll see how things go.

Hopefully this won't interfere with me getting very drunk this weekend.

When we do the Under the Sea Feud, I'm sure there will be a Team Sea Slug.

I should remind the players that teammates are allowed to discuss amongst themselves when it comings to Stealing. When the team playing is down to their last strike, feel free to discuss possible answers to use to steal privately. When the team casts their third strike, you can use the thread for public discussion among the team to decide on an answer as there is six hours to use before calling an answer to steal. This was a minor problem during the first game but we played through it okay.

Also, this was brought up by Mel at chat, and I would like to say that when your team is going and you're stuck with no answer, you are not allowed to seek help of any kind, even from teammates. It is only allowed when making a Steal.

I like these kind of games but I could never play it with a 12 hour limit. :( Some people have to go to bed, sleep for 6 hours, get ready for work, go to work for 8 hours and get back home afterwards. Admittedly most days I can get online at work, but when it's busy I'd have no luck. 24 hours ftw, with 12 hours on weekends! It ain't fast, but it allows for sleep. Alternatively, have people pick their hours... say two Europeans and two AmeriCanadians or something.

Not saying you should change for this game but maybe in a future game it would be helpful to plan for sleeping hours and for people who don't access internet at work. =]

I understand your concerns, and hopefully the next person who decides to host this game, or a similar game, will do something about that. But I have brought it upon myself to PM reminders if 6 hours have at least passed this game. Something I've only done once so far. Something along the lines of "Hi, it's your turn and you have 6 hrs from the time this PM has been sent to answer. Thanks for playing. :)" as a reminder to answer asap.

Anyway, I'm expecting Timekeeper to be on within the next 12 hours, I'll start Round 2 shortly.

Laddy is the worst person ever, why answer 20 minutes into a 6 hour time limit on a steal attempt :colbert: I knew it was gonna be Fat Chocobo's as well, I voted for them. :doublecolbert: dire.

I think 6 hours is too little time for a steal. Should be the usual 12 hours to give us time to discuss.

It had come to my attention that one of the members of Time Team, namely NeoCracker, will be dropping out due to an unexpected busier schedule, so this means two things for Time Team, since he had informed me of his decision to drop out this late in the game, Time Team will either accept the automatic strike when it comes to his turn, or find a replacement to take his place to avoid a strike. so please use your time wisely Time Team.

I'm about nine hours away from getting on my plane so it's not likely that I'll be able to participate. Although I might be. I think my apartment will have internet access which I could use on my ipod, but it's a case of whether I will adhere to my 12 hours as opposed to actually enjoying myself. So if you have a replacement then do a switcheroo.

Now that both games are done and over with. I have one final question, besides the game itself, it is regarding the time limit. Currently, it is set to 12 hours, and a few people have wanted a full 24 hours to the limit to give players more time. My complaint with the 24 hour limit is that I have to wait a whole day for the player to answer, and it would add to the length of the game if the players couldn't answer within 24 hours. So, I want to see what everyone thinks, should I stick with the current 12 hour limit, or switch to a full 24 hours? Or is there another option you'd like to see?

As I can only really get on during the afternoon and evenings, 12 hours is often not enough time for me. 24 hours would give me enough time to answer within the time limit, and most people would be answering well before that 24 hour time limit anyhow.

That said, I completely understand you wanting to keep it at 12 hours, and if that's the case then I'm willing to attempt to comply. Looking forward to what you have for us next :D

16 hours? The only problem is when the 12 hours encompasses night time when people sleep.

Yeah, 24 is way too much. 16 is good.

16 hours is probably a good compromise.

Yeah, I agree with everyone else. 24 is kind of pushing it, but if 12 is too short for people (I have a hard time seeing how it is, but... some people have lives, I suppose? :O_O: ) then 16 sounds like a good middle ground.

Yeah exactly. Many people were sleeping when their turns came around and since people tend to sleep on average, 7-10 hours, I think 16 is fair.

I'm happy with 16. With 16 I would have been here on time :p
