I didn't know that this weapon would be accessible so early in the game so I missed out on getting it from the path to the sealed cave and now I'm in the world of ruin. What is the next chance I'll be able to grab this weapon?

I don't think you can get it. I just looked up a Colosseum FAQ and didn't see it as a reward for winning a battle.
POR QUE
Get the ragnarok weapon and then equip the gauntlet for locke 8 times of hits now that is nice.
Where is that at and how does it make him do what you say it does?
It is the principle of it. Every FF (with the exception of XII) I have beaten I've done so with the 'Ultimate Weapon' in my possession. Even if I don't finish all the other side quests and mini games I have at least gotten that damn sword!
Here is how to get the sword. The Ragnarok is one of the most powerful swords in this game. It is obtained by going to the weapon shop in Narshe in the World of Ruin, and having Locke pick the lock to enter. The shop owner is hiding in the back room, and shows the party a magicite stone, which is actually the esper Ragnarok. He offers to refine the magicite and turn it into a sword, or leave it as the magicite. Turning it into the sword will make it more difficult to learn Ultima, the most powerful spell in the game, requiring purification of the Cursed Shield. Betting the Ragnarok in the Colosseum gives the Lightbringer as a reward. Forget the gaunlet relic. I messed up you need the offering. You need the Offering Relic, which can be obtained by defeating KatanaSoul, a Monster-in-a-box in the Ancient Castle. If you want an even deadlier combination, equip the Offering along with the Genji Glove to attack eight times in one turn.
Don't stress, Cim. It just means you get to play this magical game again!
I can't do that. I have to beat it and then move on to V. And then I have to play others. I can't just start over, I have a schedule.
You can acquire a second Atma Weapon in the final Boss fight. During the Third Tier fight, one of the parts has an Atma Weapon you can steal, the other has a Ragnarok. You will only be able ti use it for the two fights but hey, it's something.
Yes, but if he's calling it Atma Weapon, I'm assuming he's playing the original or PS1 version of the game.
Small window of opportunity, but it'll have to do if he wants to stay on schedule!
Yeah I downloaded it off the PSN network, which sucks because I own a hard copy, and i'm glad to know I still have a chance.
What's the atma weapon?
It is the bad guy you face at the end of the floating continent before you get to the end where you meet kefka and Gestahl. He was called atma weapon in the snes version and in the advanced it was changed to Ultima Weapon.
Although in this case people are specifically referring to the sword you get in the sealed cave.
Perhaps you missed it? It's in a chest. In the lava room with the shifting bridges if I'm not mistaken.
Good thing that I like to explore every corner in the game, I got the weapon on my first playthrough.
