We didn't have F grades. E was a fail. No reason to skip such a nice friendly little letter.

In my school when I did GCSE it was in fact possible to get grades below an F. It was part of the EdExcel AQA scoring system. A, B, C, were the only grades on a higher tier paper, internediates had C, D, E, foundations passed on an E, F, G. If you failed completely you generally got a U for un-marked/un-graded. Though apparently someone in my school got a Q guess they had a query pertaining to their exam. I took all my papers on the intermediate and higher tiers and didn't fail a single one. A lot of students in my school took exams on the foundation level. Made it a real bitch for me to study certain subjects on the higher tier papers.
