Not going to even try to hide how much I still like this show. I've said it before, and I'll say it again: People who take Dragon Ball Z seriously take Dragon Ball Z too seriously. It wasn't meant to be [insert your favorite snobbish anime opinion here]. It was and always will be just a fun, lighthearted show (albeit with dark moments) about over the top fighting. The only complaint that I let slide is the ATROCIOUS pacing the show is known for.
Anyway, yeah, I like the show. It's a fun watch. Also, relevant:
I've seen the show and watched a couple episodes. I remembered trying to follow the fight with Frieza going through all his transformations. Good god, so many episodes just for one fight. I remember that it took only a couple episodes just so a couple minutes could pass in the show's time. o_o
I haven't seen DBZ in years, but I did enjoy it growing up. The pacing was self-parodying, but it was still a fun and engaging show.
I like the original Dragon Ball. Can I still hang out?
Yeah DBZ was awesome. Best character? Tossup between Mr. Satan and Piccolo.
yeah original db was way better than z
z was like a junior high lunch room
Thankfully, I grew up before this miserable piece of horsescheiße was aired, so I've never sat through a full episode.
I prefer DragonBall the original when Goku was young. :kakapo:
Plus Dragonball Z is like...

Eeeeeee I LOVED DBZ. It was my show to watch when I got home off the bus in elementary. Screw sailor moon, DBZ was where it was at!
Dragonball Z and Pokemon every morning before school for basically my entire primary school education. I loved that trout.
grew up?
Snake Way!
DB > DBZ > cow trout > DBGT
I kid, I kid.GT and cow trout are tied.
Dragon Ball was the best show ever. When DBZ started, it was like watching a completely different show with the same characters. But it was still awesome. And then GT... ugh.
I always loved how from the beginning of the series you knew Gohan had some kind of freakish monster powers, and that point is reinforced over and over again by him beating the crap out off Frieza when he's angry and then beating Cell and becoming the most powerful character on the planet (I doubt spoilers are needed here) and yet when he finally achieves his true power and becomes stronger than both his father and SSJ3 Gotenks he still ends up being fairly useless because he gets his dumb ass absorbed. It was a big "no matter how strong you get, you still have to know what the smurf you're doing" moment.
DBZ is one of the most terribly made programms I have ever watched. The VA's are aweful, the story is at best poorly pased, and at worse its utterly nonsensical and wastes your time.
The Characters are badly written, the episodes drag on, and the series becomes nothing but 'I have a bigger laser! No I have a bigger laser'!.
I can not think of a singe redeeming quality of this show.
And I love every second of it.
Also, Toriyama is a boss.

Pretty much this. When I was a kid I used to watch this sucker on Toonami all the time. My parents hated it so much that they started hassling me and my brother by standing in front of the TV and mocking it by screaming powering-up style. They never seemed to get it that we found it hilarious, not annoying.
Best show ever? Best show ever.
I still want to be a saiyan. :(
That was sort of how I was with Yu-Gi-Oh. By the time everyone was getting into it I was like 18 or something and I had more mature and adult things to watch, (SPOILER)like Digimon.
But I was 14/15ish for DBZ and I fell right in love with it.
One day I will learn how to fly. Shooting energy beams is probably a bit beyond me but even smurfing Krillin could fly
He was a bitch much earlier than that.

Growing up? I was pretty much fully grown when I was watching it.
Just throwing this out there, but Krillan fried four of the smurfers at once.
Yeah, DBZ, POKEMANS, Yugioh... God I was such a horrible person.
DBZ and Digimon will always be cool. Pokemon was cool for a while, but it's too repetitive at this point to ever be cool again.
Yu-Gi-Oh was never really cool, although since the game itself is a bit more complex than Pokemon but still easier for kids to get into compared to Magic, I guess there's at least that excuse for them :|
Nappa is best character. Anyone up for a DBZ PA marathon stream someday?
Nappa is only best character in Abridged :colbert:
Krillan was so damn useless that he should of been a female character that just stayed home and did the cooking. :greenie:
Krillin was even afraid of Goku's wife even though she was a normal person :p
...Then again, up until the Buu saga, I think she had the highest power level of any woman on earth :|
Well, Krillin did get it on with an Android way more powerful tan him in the end. So he was kind of whupped. And I can't fault him for being afraid of Chichi. Even Piccolo wasn't man enough to stand up to her.
Hey man, Krillan was a serious bad ass.
The thing where he fried four of the Sebbamen, he fought Freeza to the death to give everyone more time, and has done that on multiple occasions. Krillan may never win his fights, but smurf all of you who think he is worthless. :colbert:
I loved Dragon Ball Z. The smart-talking main character who was actually a good person beneath his rough exterior, the best friend/rival who was actually the most chivalrous and awesome character on the show, the stoic but not unlikable obligatory "I'm too cool for this group" character, and finally the prettyboy who was actually the most merciless of the bunch. And we can't forget the most badass old fossil ever in an anime. It was just an all-around perfect hero cast.
It had some amazing arcs and character development. Seeing our main character mature from a young punk into an intelligent young man who understands responsibility was very rewarding.
On the other side of the moral spectrum you had a fantastic cast of villains. Oh sure, they started off pretty simplistic, but by the time of the tournament we had one of the coolest yet well-developed antagonists in a series. Yet his own brother was probably the most heinous, detestable cretin ever so you had the best of both a sympathetic villain and a completely hateable one.
And by the time the main character's evil counterpart and predecessor showed up, everything really clicked. Such a superbly dark yet fascinating storyline on how humanity's own depravity can turn a good person into a villain. The villain's multiple personalities was pretty neat too, even if we only got to see one of them for a long time. He was the best personality anyway.
Yes it was truly a wonderful show.
Haha, I was such a shameless DBZ fan in middle/early high school, before it went all mainstream with the new episodes on Cartoon Network, then I stopped caring about it. Coincidentally, not intentionally. I watched until after the Cell saga, then with the Majin Buu saga I was all like "umm...they're just recycling the exact same scripts with a different villain" and gave up on it. :p
I still love Sailor Moon though.
Krillin was the smurfing most powerful human in the entire series. On top of that he has serious balls for continuing to train and trying to keep up with the action even though all the villains were well out of his league.
I am loving the Krillin support in here, quite uncommon. He really was a tough guy considering he didn't have the advantage of being an alien, and who can look at that shiny dragonball looking head and not love him? :jess: destructo disc is seriously kickass too
DBZ is directly responsible for my love of anime. I remember first seeing the Cell Saga when I was 15/16 & being totally blown away by it. If you all fancy a shortened trip down memory lane you should watch DBZ Kai. It is paced much faster and the animation quality is HD.
DBZ was good for a laugh, it had it's moments of coolness. The pacing and the script (and other things) aside.
Before the original DB, I'd watch this!
smurfING RONIN WARRIOR HELL YES.
That show was awesome... From what little of it I remember :p
It really was. Here's what someone did with that first clip I posted.
DBZ, Tenchi Muyo, Outlaw Star, Gundam Wing, Sailor Moon, Pokemon, Digimon, Escaflowne, Cardcaptors...Anime was my LIFE back in the day. I still remember how good it felt to run home after school and turn the TV on and just chill with my big brother :D
I dislike the first half of Gundam Wing, but the later ones are great, and Endless Waltz is smurfing awesome.
Heavy Arms and Death Scyth FTW!
Vegeta IS the best, he's my favorite!
smurfing Krillin, I hate him so much. I cheered when Frieza blew his ass up.
No, Nappa is fifth best to Popo if you follow Popo's pecking order.

Also, DBZ is my all-time favorite show. Ever.
smurfing POPO man. What's his deal :hahaha:
He's so smurfing high right now.
I think most people that have sen DB hated Krillin from the beginning :jess:
And obviously, all characters are below Popo. That just goes without saying. I mean, even in canon, he was taking attacks from Super Saiyan Goten and Trunks when he was trying to keep them from leaving the tower during the Buu Saga. Kinda makes you wonder why he just didn't go and beat Frieza himself... I mean, he is immortal, right?
I wasn't a fan back in the day because of its slow pacing, But I loved Akira Toryama's style. Abridged changed that for me though. I cant wait to meet the guys behind the parody at Youmacon next month. Last year my friends managed to kidknap Sonny Strait (AKA Krillin) and drink/party with him when I couldn't go. Hopefully they do it again this year
On a side note, I'm cosplaying at Youmacon as Andriod 18 and Lucca from Chrono Trigger.
