I read the book of the Shining long before seeing the film and Kubrick completely butchers the whole point of the book, so I couldn't stand it. And I may have been over the top with The Exorcist, but there is nothing scary or even interesting in the film. It was slow, cringeworthy and more comedic than scary.Quote:

In the movie, people clearly stated that they knew to stay away from lakes, etc etc. Obviously they must have known that the majority of earth is water. I don't think they expected the humans to know to use it against them, though.

This. It's not a film I've re-watched, but I found it enjoyably tense on first viewing at the cinema. Same goes for I Am Legend. Less of an unpopular opinion and more of a universal truth. M. Night Shyamalan is horrible at what he does and needs to be banned from cinema.
Unbreakable and Sixth Sense were good. Lady in the Water was good but only because of Paul Giamatti. I don't really remember signs all that much so I can only assume it was mediocre at best. Anyone who goes to a movie about aliens expecting a realistically done treat is in need of a serious mental evaluation.
I don't think someone who doesn't like Blade Runner gets to call anyone stupid, except by dint of experience.

Citizen Kane is legitimately one of my favorite films.
The Hurt Locker is maybe the best film of the last five years, with The Dark Knight second and Up third.
The Social Network did not deserve Best Picture.
A Scanner Darkly is very, very, underrated.
Across The Universe is mediocre.
Despite his track record, Shymalan did wonders with The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable and he deserves as much praise for those as he deserves absolute derision for most anything.

The current crop of Marvel films are actually really good.
Superman should never have films made about him cause they are all terrible and he's too boring to make a film that could hold someone's attention.
Tim Burton is actually one of the better director's in Hollywood, though he's at his best with original films rather than adaptions.
Michael Cera is an awful actor and ruined the Scott Pilgrim movie cause he basically just played himself instead of Scott Pilgrim.
Avatar was a boring, pretentious, political wankfest by James Cameron and if you liked the film for anything more than it's special effects then you should have your eyes plucked out so you can be discouraged from encouraging him to make more of this trite.

I don't understand the hate for Avatar, to be honest. It's an average film in every regard bar graphics. The plot is just a standard Pocahontas jig, the acting is alright, the soundtrack is unmemorable, but the film looks pretty.

ALL Harry Potter movies suck. No exceptions and no doubts. I've been an HP fan for over a decade and for about that length of time I've been a firm detractor of all the movies. Each movie follows the same formula:
1. Take the storyline of the book. Then take a crap on it and go read the SparkNotes version instead. Make a script out of that, making absolutely sure that you cram everything together in such a clumsy fashion that it robs every scene of any emotional power.
2. Make sure the acting cast is 95% awful. Bump it up to 96% after Richard Harris passes away.
3. Don't properly use Alan Rickman's amazing talent so you correctly portray Snape. Make sure he is always calm, always deadpan, always NOT AT ALL LIKE HIS CANON SELF.
He should have been half-crazed and screaming at the end of Half-Blood Prince but noooooo.
I smurfing hate those movies man. There is nothing redeeming about any of them at all. No, not even the chick who plays Hermione. I have Rule 34 for that.

The Star Wars Original Trilogy is pretty bad. Good acting, music and effects (for the time) prop up a thoroughly unoriginal story with bland as as old bread characters.
The lightsaber fights are also just laughable. The mighty Jedi and Sith fight like complete idiots.
The first three Pirates of the Caribbean films are good. Dead Man's Chest only barely fits the bill but I still like it.
Aaron Eckhart's Harvey Dent/Two-Face was the real star of The Dark Knight, not Heath Ledger's Joker.

Avatar and Titanic weren't that bad. Overrated, yes, but hardly terrible movies like a lot of people seem to say.
Network is a better allegory for politics in modern America than anything that has been released since. The only thing I can think of that's even come close is Lincoln.
While The Phantom Menace was unforgivably awful, Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith weren't actually that bad, and the latter might even be described as a decent film.
Some of the Star Wars novels have more interesting plots and writings than any of the films.
That last bit is just a plain fact. The writers of the novels have infinitely more talent than Lucas or anyone else who worked on the movies.
The Thrawn Trilogy alone is like a billion times better than all the movies combined.
I'd also say some of the games have better plots - namely KOTOR II. "What? The Force isn't a childish good and evil dynamic? Perish the thought!"

Casino Royale isn't exactly a typical Bond film either; it deconstructs a lot of the tropes used by most of the earlier Bond films.
Saw it earlier today - it's not bad at all! It was too much action focused, bit superb filming work and Craig was badass. Way better than everything else made before Casino Royale.
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is a pretty good movie.
Skyfall was mediocre, and I don't get all the hype.
El Orfanato (The Orphanage) wasn't scary.
Marie Antoinette is a good movie, and many people missed the point it tried to make.
Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy was great and all, but Batman Returns is still the best Batman movie.
Also, I enjoy Elizabethtown.
Pierce Brosnan was the best Bond, Xenia was the best Bond girl (she counts) and I liked The World Is Not Enough. Well, I remember liking it. Haven't seen it in years. The theme song is pretty happenin'.

Tom Cruise is a very good actor. His Scientology antics made a lot of people bitch about him but come on - Interview with the Vampire, A Few Good Men, Jerry Maguire...the list goes on and on. Valkyrie was pretty cool too.
And speaking of Interview, Lestat was his best performance ever. Also smurf anyone who compares Anne Rice's classics with Twilight.

No, Tom Cruise is an excellent actor. I think most people share the idea he is a good actor despite the crazy.

Alien 3 is the best of the Alien films.
Ghostbusters is still one of the best 80s movie of all time.
Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within was actually a pretty good Sci-Fi flick.
Jack Black has never starred in a good live action film.
Actors are a rare breed in Hollywood, the majority of film actors we see are simply John Wayne-esque characters who simply play as themselves and get roles cause they have quirky personalities. It's not because they can become the character it's because the character was written to be them.
All the Rocky movies are equally as good/bad as each other. Theyre just good/bad in different ways

Okay, not really. Spirits Within was horrid and Super Mario Bros was only good for a laugh.
I'm not real big on Star Wars or Lord of the Rings. I could be, but I don't care enough to go through the motions of watching them.
I find Robin Williams to be funny. Most people think he's a bad actor and that he isn't funny. I like him. To some extent.
I thought Johnny Depp in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was a pedophile and that that movie shouldn't have existed.
I am Legend is over rated and the ending sorta sucked.
Robin Williams has received multiple Academy Award nominations and is an amazingly versatile performer. His ability to play both funny characters like Genie or genuinely terrifying killers is a rather astounding gift.
He probably doesn't get the credit he deserves but I don't know who would claim he's a bad actor.
And I think most people agree Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was a total waste.
He only starred in one of those movies. He's fine when he's a side character( as you mention The Muppets, High Fidelity, and Mars Attacks) but when he's the leading role he falls flat cause he's largely just obnoxious. I say live action cause he did a good job in the Kung-Fu Panda films.Quote:

I think Hayden Christensen did a good job as Anakin.
That kid in Episode 1 though... He's a big reason I only watch the end of that movie.
The Green Hornet was an amazing film. Im not sure if this is an unpopular opinion but the 6 on imdb seems to imply so.
