or "album of the year"!
gonna be a three-way between The Money Store, Synthetica, and Born to Die.
What'd you like the most this year?
I haven't heard of any of those.
well maybe you should!

Lana Del Rey - Born To Die (the album) - YouTube -
jesus christ, so many people released albums that I hadn't heard of!
fun. - Some Nights has to be it for me, since I am sorely not caught up at all with 2012 albums.
check out the metric album, you'll adore it.
Those two thingies you linked are actually pretty darn good. I'm almost surprised you listen to this!
I'll listen a lot more to it tomorrow when it's not "time to go to bed 5 hours ago" o'clock
Incomplete list of stuff I've enjoyed a lot that was released this year. Anything on this list could be considered a recommendation for anyone who enjoys the genre the album is recorded in, especially the bold stuff, which I regard as masterpieces.
Änglagĺrd - Viljans öga
David Arnold and Michael Price - Sherlock OST (both volumes)
Ash Borer - Cold of Ages
Between the Buried and Me - The Parallax II: Future Sequence
Botanist - III: Doom in Bloom/Allies
Carbonscape - Artistry of Exhaustion III
Deathspell Omega - Drought
Devin Townsend Project - Epicloud (2CD version)
Ramin Djawadi - Game of Thrones Season 2 OST
Dordeduh - Dar de duh
Drudkh - Вічний Оберт Колеса [Eternal Turn of the Wheel]
Enslaved - Riitiir
A Forest of Stars - A Shadowplay for Yesterdays
Giles Corey - Deconstructionist
Godspeed You! Black Emperor - 'Allelujah! Don't Bend! Ascend!
The Great Old Ones - Al Azif
Ihsahn - Eremita
Inverloch - Dusk | Subside
Kayo Dot - Gamma Knife
Kólga - Demo
Krallice - Years Past Matter
Lake of Blood - The Burial Grounds Sessions
Lunar Aurora - Hoagascht
Magma - Félicité Thösz
The Mars Volta - Noctourniquet
Napalm Death - Utilitarian
Ne Obliviscaris - Portal of I
Panopticon - Kentucky
Rush - Clockwork Angels
Sigh - In Somniphobia
Swans - The Seer
Trampled by Turtles - Stars and Satellites
Vattnet Viskar - Vattnet Viskar
Wintersun - Time I
Wodensthrone - Curse
If reissues count, throw Timeghoul - 1992-1994 Discography onto that list as well.
This list is nowhere near complete. There's still a lot of stuff I haven't listened to at all or enough to form an opinion on, including obvious stuff like Springsteen, Ulver, and Neurosis, so I will very likely add a lot of stuff to this list.
I don't have anywhere near enough self-control to narrow this down to an album of the year. If you're lucky you might get a list of about five albums that are clearly better than all the others, but I doubt it. Those bolded albums are probably as much as I can narrow it down.
Skyharbor - Blinding White Noise
Not even a contest for me, best debut album I've heard by any band since Karnivool's 'Themata'
I'll do a proper list at the end of the month but for now I suspect my top three will be Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Passion Pit and Fiona Apple.
Lana Del Rey
Summertime Sadness is probably my fav track, too.
Guess it didn't really come out in 2012 but the only "new" album I got or even listened to was Doomtree's No Kings.
i guess born to die is the only album i know from 2k12
pretty dang good album tho
swingin in the backyard pull up in your fast car whistlin' my name
I didn't buy much "new" music in 2012, mostly old albums I was discovering for the first time.
I've heard a ton of rave reviews for Lana Del Rey though. I'll have to check her out soon.
the link is RIGHT THERE, MAN.
did aaron just unironically list a swans album oh christ
The only decent albums this year were Vows by Kimbra and Visitors by Lazerhawk. The former isn't all that great aside from a couple songs and the latter isn't quite as good as Redline was.
What's wrong with Swans? The Seer is a great album.
Between the Buried and Me - The Parallax II: Future Sequence
Either Come of Age (The Vaccines) or Days Go By (The Offspring) and their lack of being mentioned until post 22 only confirms my cast iron belief that EoFF has the worst taste in music of any website ever.
He's right, this place really does have awful music taste. The best films of 2012 thread was almost as bad :(
psychotic and milf can have their own aoty thread
in the help forum
cause they need it
I'm voting Wanderlust by The Quick Brown Fox, deal with it hipsters
all i can say so far is that my fave song of the year contenders are def:
True Shred Guitar by Sleigh Bells
and
Sad Eyes by Crystal Castles
and either of the encapsulating albums for that will probably be my aoty but i never really pick an aoty
My favorite song this year is Gangnam Style.
Not even joking.
wow girl you've gotta expand your horizons!
Even though some of my favorite bands made new albums this year (Dr. Dog, Band of Horses, Balthazar) I don't think of 2012 as a particularly mind-blowing year. I only nominate two:
Dr Dog - Be The Void
Animal Liberation Orchestra - Sounds Like This (probably the worst album title ever, but it's a good record nonetheless.)
You just like the uniforms! :aimkiss:
Of course I do babe :aimkiss:
(SPOILER)I actually really like the song too
It's a good song. Gives me chills.
because he specifically talks about getting the smurf out of arizona and it's like he's speaking to me directly and I'm like YEAH SON

This is the only album I can think of released this year, (aside from some compilations, EPs, etc.) that I've listened to much. There might be some other stuff, but I dunno. Parov Stellar's new album had some decent tracks. Also, Jimmy Cliff released a new album sometime this year and he played a few tracks from it in summer when I saw him, and that was pretty good but I've still not listened through the album itself. That's about all I can think of for me.
Si Si Puede
ahahaha yes it is amazing
I manage it by staying out of places that play radio music, not playing radio music in the car and avoiding everywhere on the internet that may possibly expose me to popular top chart music. Additionally, last night was the first time I ever fully heard Call Me Maybe.

im trying to understand grimes today. i know everyone really likes it, but all i like are the arpeggios and intros. i can't get into her voice.
grimes sounds better when you just kinda tune her out. it's either sweet or completely intolerable.

EDIT
WHOA WHOA WHOA
HOW DID I FORGET TO PUT
CRYSTAL CASTLES - III
Crystal Castles "TELEPATH" Official - YouTube
IN THERE
I doubt anyone else still here still listens to black metal but if you do, Fauna's Avifauna is an end-of-year surprise that will probably end up in my top five if I ever make one. They've performed parts of this live before, but the recording of it that surfaced was about 30 minutes shorter than the finished album, which is probably the best thing they've released.
