"...I'm liable to sleep with him myself."
Was watching this as my friend walked in, and she thought Mal was gay. Mal, the manliest man of all men.
"You are going to be cleaning out latrines with your face if you don't cut that out."
In fact, to mark this special occasion I am going to rep anyone who posts something Firefly related in this thread.

I want to make this but I don't have the patience nor the setup to do so.
In celebration of the semester ending and to mark this horrible, horrible day, I am tempted to rewatch the series in its entirety... but ain't nobody got time for that. Maybe I will watch it slowly.
"I can kill you with my brain...."

Wash [as Stegosaurus]: Yes... yes. This is a fertile land, and we will thrive. We will rule over all this land, and we will call it... This Land.
Wash [as Allosaurus]: I think we should call it... your grave!
Wash [as Stegosaurus]: Ah! Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal!
Wash [as Allosaurus]: Ha ha ha! Mine is an evil laugh! Now DIE!
Wash [as Stegosaurus]: Oh no, God, oh dear God in heaven...
Also I have a clip somewhere with a Fox exec's name on it. (SPOILER)(Not really)

give me my rep
Sir Warrick:[/b] I know him. And I think he's a psychotic low-life.
Mal:[/b] And I think calling him that is an insult to the psychotic low-life community.
Denied TB.

Mal:[/b] They don't like it when you shoot at 'em. I worked that out myself.
Jayne: "Not as deceiving as a low down dirty.... deceiver!"
Mal:[/b] Everybody dies, Tracey. Someone's carryin' a bullet for you right now, doesn't even know it. The trick is, die of old age before it finds you.

You know I think our very own Jiro is a bit like a Captain Mal.
And of course Shorty and Rantz are Zoe and Wash!
That's great :monster:
Mal:[/b] Girl knows things. Things she shouldn't. Things she couldn't.
Jayne:[/b] What, are you— are you sayin' she's a witch?
Wash:[/b] [sarcastically] Yes, Jayne. She's a witch. She has had congress with the beast.
Jayne:[/b] She's in Congress?
Wash:[/b] How did your brain even learn human speech? I'm just so curious.
tbh, Owl City doesn't belong on the same planet as Firefly :doublecolbert:
Wash:[/b] Psychic, though? That sounds like something out of science fiction.
Zoe:[/b] We live in a spaceship, dear.
Wash:[/b] So?
Early: You ever been shot?
Simon: No.
Early: You oughta be shot. Or stabbed. Lose a leg. To be a surgeon, you know? Know what kind of pain you're dealing with. They make psychiatrists get psychoanalyzed before they can get certified, but they don't make a surgeon get cut on. That seem right to you?
Book: Yes, I'd forgotten you're moonlighting as a criminal mastermind now. Got your next heist planned?
Simon: No. But I'm thinking about growing a big black mustache. I'm a traditionalist.
Wash:[/b] Can I mop your brow? I am at the ready with the fearsome brow mop.
Early: Where'd she go?
Simon: I can't keep track of her when she's not incorporeally possessing a spaceship; don't look at me.
. . .
Early: I only hurt people 'cause they keep gettin' in the way of me finding you. [points his gun at Simon] Tell her.
Simon: What am I, your advocate?
Early: You are, starting now.
Simon: [deadpan] He's really very… gentle, and fuzzy. We're becoming fast friends.
[River/Serenity giggles.]
Early: You folks are all insane.
Simon: Well… my sister's a ship. We had a complicated childhood.
Mal:[/b] Nothing worse than a monster who thinks he's right with God.
. . .
Nandi:[/b] Captain Reynolds, it took me years to cut this piece of territory out of other men's hands, to build this business up from nothing.
Mal:[/b] Nandi...
Nandi:[/b] It's who I am, and it's my home. I'm not going anywhere.
. . .
Mal:[/b] Well, lady, I must say—you're my kinda stupid.
Dammit I came here to post that!

I started my marathon on the new projector in my basement. I'm hoping to get to Out Of Gas tonight.
Jealous of your goddamn projector :(
Mal: Do you wanna run this ship?!
Jayne: Yes!
Mal: ...well... you can't...
Book:[/b] I've been out of the abbey two days. I've beaten a lawman senseless. I've fallen in with criminals. I watched the captain shoot the man I swore to protect. And I'm not even sure if I think he was wrong. I believe... I just... I think I'm on the wrong ship.
Inara:[/b] Maybe. Or maybe you're exactly where you ought to be.
Zoe: Proximity alert. Must be coming up on something.
Wash: Oh, my God. What can it be? We're all doomed! Who's flyin' this thing?!
Zoe: :|
Wash: Oh right, that would be me.
I have all the episodes on dvd
Mal: Shouldn't you be off bringing religiosity to the fuzzy-wuzzies or some such?
Book: Oh, I've got heathens aplenty right here.
Mal: "Y'all see the man hanging out of the spaceship with the really big gun? Now I'm not saying you weren't easy to find but it was kinda out of our way, and he didn't want to come in the first place. Man's lookin' to kill some folk. So really, it's his will y'all should worry about thwarting."
They should have let Jayne be violent more.
Jayne: Oh, I ain't goin' over there with them bodies. No rutting way. Not if reavers messed with 'em.
Zoe: Jayne - you'll scare the women. :|
Do you think there's any chance of this series getting some kind of reunion like Arrested Development did? At least AD got 3 seasons. Canceling Firefly before even a single season aired was one of the biggest mistakes ever made in television.
Never heard of this show. May have to check it out.
Take care all.
Nathan Fillion has joked that if he could afford it and had the opportunity, he'd buy the rights to Firefly and start making it in his basement or something. It's a nice sentiment, but it wouldn't work since most of the actors are busy with other shows and Whedon is more or less done with TV.
I have to agree with Bunny. Maybe if it was sooner and not ten years ago. I just don't think it would be the same, like I don't think Arrested Development will be the same.
So, why exactly was this show cancelled? For all intents and purposes it sounds amazing, yet it got cancelled. Why?
One word: FOX
Clarifying sentence: Are idiots.
The easy answer is that Fox did absolutely everything wrong.
The actual answer is more than that, though Fox screwed the pooch in a significant manner. They marketed it incorrectly, they aired the episodes out of order, and provided no real help for it in general. It wasn't a critical hit right away, which is something that big companies like Fox take note of, and it didn't catch a big enough audience for a show in the time slot that it was in. It could not compete with the rest of the shows airing at the time it aired, so it was canceled.
Another reason is, at least in my imagination, is that Fox thought they were getting another Buffy or Angel from Whedon. Instead they were handed this oddly themed show that was hard for audiences and critics to wrap their heads around from the get go, which is something you need to do with a show on a major network.
It does amuse me that the people responsible for canceling Firefly got fired though.
So if it's so great, why can't another network take it up?
Because it got cancelled after only a handful of episodes so didn't look attractive to other networks. Also see the point about it not being as carbon copy of Buffy/Angel which confused critics thus making it less attractive to other networks.
Also because it's ten years old :(
I love Firefly. :(
Given the huge cult following it seems to possess now, surely 10 years on networks will smell the coffee and take it up for a reboot?
I think it's best to let sleeping dogs lie with this one.
I'd still like to see a reboot, but I dunno if it'll happen :(
Zoe:[/b] I know something ain't right.
Wash:[/b] Sweetie, we're crooks. If everything were right, we'd be in jail.
If I'm not mistaken, Fox owns the rights to the show and will not sell it to other companies for whatever reason. In addition, all of the actors, as well as Whedon, are busy doing their own things and so it would be difficult to get them all together again. I think the best thing people can hope for is continued cast reunions.
On a side note, Whedon filmed a version of Much Ado About Nothing which has almost everyone in Firefly in various parts. So there is that.
"Sir, I think you have a problem with your brain being missing"
I only got into Firefly when I was in hospital earlier this year. It is staggering the lack of foresight Fox had with this show. It's a shame it didn't have a bit more luck.
I remember Red Dwarf had even worse viewing figures for it's first series than Firefly and was likely to be cancelled. It just got lucky. Some executive at the BBC was leaving and thought to himself "What's the biggest pile of crap I can sanction to make the next guy's job even worse?" He actually commisioned a second series of Red Dwarf before the first series had even aired.
If only they ran a similar ship over at FOX as they did at the BBC...
Don't fret, Bubba. I'm sure there are plenty of paedophiles at Fox, as well.
Now then, now then, now then, Quin...
Good show and movie. been too long since I've seen it know remember any quotes.
Kaylee:[/b] ...goin' on a year now I ain't had nothin' 'twixt my nethers weren't run on batteries!
Mal:[/b] [not a little shocked] Oh, God! I can't know that!
Jayne:[/b] I could stand to hear a little more.
The Firefly comics have been sitting in my nightstand drawer for years. I haven't read them because I know that, once I do, it's really over.
I hate the film for that very reason, Shlup. :(
WHY DOES SHEPARD BOOK HAVE HIGH LEVEL CLEARANCE TWO BY TWO HANDS OF BLUUUUEEEEEE
I hate the movie because of a painful crime that was committed near the very end of the film :(
That's why I haven't read the comics too :<
Simon:[/b] In all that time on the ship... I've always regretted... not being with you.
Kaylee:[/b] With me? You mean to say... as in sex?
Simon:[/b] I mean to say.
Kaylee:[/b] To Hell with this. I'm gonna live!
I'm still pissed off that (SPOILER)they killed Book and Wash. :< Then again, that's Whedon for you.
The second one is the tragedy I'm referring to but yes, you are correct.
I was pissed off because I realised that.
