Arrested Development if you haven't seen it. Archer is also highly recommended!
Depending on your definition of recent:
Archer, Arrested Development, Psych, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Wilfred, Better Off Ted. In order of my favorite to least favorite (but all still very good).
Non-comedies that are worth the watch:
Sherlock, Downton Abbey, Breaking Bad, Battlestar Galactica, Sons of Anarchy, Dresden Files. There are more, probably, but that should keep you buys for quite a bit of time. No order to these, just good shows in general.
what they said. you're in for a treat
Archer, Arrested Development and Sherlock, for certain. Also Parks and Rec, goddamnit.
What's wrong with Doctor Who? :(
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia
Coupling or Secret Diary of a Call Girl!
Or Gavin and Stacey!
Oh, what's occurin'?
secret diary of a call girl xD
oh nothing
If you like Doctor Who then you should watch Torchwood and Sherlock, since each of them is made by one of Doctor Who's showrunners since it came back. Torchwood also ties into the universe. There are also a lot of Classic Who serials that are worth seeing if you haven't seen them yet, although they vary widely in quality. I'd recommend starting with Genesis of the Daleks or The Caves of Androzani, both of which regularly top Best Who Stories Ever lists for good reasons.
I will also second the recommendations for Archer and Arrested Development. Another show with similar humour that almost no one seemed to hear about is Better Off Ted, which unfortunately was Too Good to Last.
In the non-comedy category, I also second the Battlestar Galactica recommendation.
The biggest problem with recommending Better Off Ted is that the humor is highly sarcastic and dry, which most people typically don't like. Archer and It's Always Sunny are contrasted by their ridiculous humor, same with Arrested Development (although it's significantly dry as well). Better Off Ted is an incredible show, but a lot of people don't like it because of the type of jokes it has.
So in the midsts of searching on Netflix for these I ended up disregarding all of them and got started on 90210... I'm sorry. (actually I'm not)
Shameless and Louie
Peep Show, and Party Down if that's still on Netflix.
I guess 90210 is sort of a comedy.
Don't worry I've got Arrested Development queued up as well followed by Sons of Anarchy.
I'm allowed girly stuff in there too!
Watch Gossip Girl.
I have already seen all of Gossip Girl. :D
I make no attempts at hiding that I'm an absolute sap for shows like that.
xoxo
I got tired of Gossip Girl after the fourth or so season of most of the characters being whiny idiots.
I've watched a lot of trout.
Seconding Peep Show and Better off Ted
Also Father Ted, Black Books, The IT Crowd, and Fresh Meat.
Father Ted and Black Books aren't exactly new, but neither are Better Off Ted or Arrested Development.
Better Off Ted's only about four years old, and Arrested Development is coming back later this year :colbert:
I tried to watch the IT Crowd and just thought it was dire.
fist pound. Most recent season was pretty lacking though. Needs more Johnson.Quote:

I will second IT Crowd. Going to make Rantz watch it
I accidentally watched a bit of the American Shameless, and it honestly made me think - if only for a second - that you absolutely deserved all of the terrorist attacks in your history. Then I changed the channel and felt a bit guilty. :(
Aulayna, you should definitely watch the IT Crowd as soon as possible, by any means necessary. It's by a lot of the folks who did Father Ted, and is on the same level. If you haven't seen Father Ted, then I'm going to call you English for the rest of your life. :colbert:
Homeland.
Homeland is surprisingly good. Also, it has that man who has no right being so attractive, yet somehow is anyway.
I always assumed you were Irish for some reason.
Damian Lewis. That's the one. Look at him.
Attachment 38960
The bastard doesn't look anywhere near as attractive as he is.
Related: Band of Brothers is amazing.
So nearly at end of season 1 of 90210 and it's already covered more storyline checklists in one season than similar shows do in the entire lifespan:
- Drug Addict: check
- Car crash: check
- Teenage pregnancy: check
- Adoption scam: check
- People overreacting at something they overheard: check
- Cat fights: check
(SPOILER)- Hot guys who could bed me over the kitchen side any day of the week: Check AND check
At times I'm like STAHP, slow down.
ME TOO!
I tried out the show based on the recommendations in this thread and found it to be terrible. Del Murder and I tried to get through one episode but we just couldn't do it. =/ Couldn't stand Archer either.
Now I'm dubious about the recommendations to be found here.
I saw you liked 90210 and realized I had nothing to offer you except a Colbert.
:colbert:
what the smurf man
Granted, we barely watched half of the pilot, so maybe it gets way better?
The laugh track is just horrible and I think the acting is supposed to be campy but it was waaay over the top and the whole thing came across like a mediocre SNL skit.
The laugh track is pretty bad. The show gets better as it goes on, though.
