FFIV had a pretty good soundtrack if you ask me, so what was some of your favorite tracks from this game?
My favorite is "Prologue". Though not native to FF4 I particularly remember it from this entry.
Next would probably be "Within the Giant
The one that was also Culex's theme in Super Mario RPG.
This is the soundtrack of my childhood. Within the Giant is the best song ever.
There is also bLiNd's superb mix:
The Celtic Moon version of the soundtrack is good stuff.
Listening to this just now gave me goosebumps:
Finally! Some appreciation for Within the Giant.
I'm also quite fond of The Final Battle Music and The Dreadful Fight Music.
The Final Battle:
The Dreadful Fight:
My top favorites from the DS Version album:
Theme of Love - Okay, this will sound too obvious, but every time when I heard it, I imagine Cecil and Rosa in pure romance, comforting each other with love. Tears flow from my eyes when the first note of the song begins.
Battle A Theme - I perfer the Dissidia 012 verison with the dramatic panio playing the melody, but this verison on the DS is good too. Still contains a fun energitic beat and when I listened to it, I'm battling Kain to the point he's ticking me off.
Overworld (Main Theme) - Both the DS and Dissidia version touched me so. I was thinking about Cecil and the twin moons in the sky while listening to it.
The Final Battle (Zeromus) - I think Uesatsu was a genius of putting together that song, and with the Black Mage's verison of it makes me more engaged of battling that mind-controller.
I have more favorites, but perhaps I should express it in terms of drawings or short stories.
I'm a fan of the Red Wings theme. It's got such a great high temp to it.
This game had music that is very important to me. I feel like each theme is iconic and memorable. I couldn't pick out a single song to highlight, but I should say that hearing the Prologue brings a tear to my eye every time. It really does! I might use it to my advantage if I ever have to act a scene that requires me to cry.
You know, the reason why this is my favorite game is because of how many possibilities it highlighted for me. This was the first game I played with a story that went beyond "[X] happened. Only doing [Y] will save the day!" I have played other RPGs before, including the first Final Fantasy, but this was the first that actually had characters that were fleshed out. Today, they seem like shallow stereotypical jRPG characters loaded to the teeth with tropes, but back then it was extraordinarily rare to actually get to know the personalities of fictional people in video games.
That line of thought also applies to the music of this game. Again, there were plenty of other games where I dug the music (Mega Man series is a fine example), but FFIV is the first game to really get me focused on how well composed it was, and how there were so many themes to just about everything you could think of. Even my parents, who much like most parents at the time merely thought video games were just children's toys going through another temporary popularity phase, picked up on this as they heard the game's soundtrack echo through the crack of my door from my room.
Basically this is the game that made me appreciate video game music as a whole. I even wished I could have a CD of it way back then. I remember thinking how game music would never be taken seriously enough to be released by itself. I mean, I was obviously unaware how games were taken so seriously in Japan back then, and how game music and even game concerts were sort of already a thing! When I first had the means down downloading/purchasing game music and burning CDs, I went NUTS.
Anyway, I was so convinced that I would never see an official release of the FFIV soundtrack. So for this game, as well as others, I would take one of those boomboxes that allowed you to record externally and place it next to the TV speaker. I even recorded the Final Battle music with me actually playing the fight. The sound effects actually weren't too distracting. I mean, I found a way to listen to game music OUTSIDE THE GAME, MAN!
FFIV caused me to pay attention to music in games I played prior, and I have focused a lot of attention to game music ever since. Still, I will never forget the game that started it all for me.
I love all of the songs. Here's some of my favorites that haven't been poasted yet:
Best soundtrack in any FF ever.
