cos goddamn you bob let's have a real poll smurf you
What do you call it?
Glacing.
icing on cupcakes, frosting on entire cakes.
icing, but i don't hate the other term
Anyone who says frosting should be turned into fertilizer.
who smurfing cares what it's called, it's smurfing delicious and by far the best part of cake
Frankly, I'd often rather skip the cake and just eat the damn icing.
Get out.
They are DIFFERENT. And those of you who have had homemade versions of them would KNOW THAT. JERKS.
Frosting is more common. It is mounded and spread on cakes. It's thick and stiff (that's what she said) and it stays in place. It maintains consistency and forms well.
Icing is less common (except on cookies.) It starts runny and ends kind of crisp and glossy. You can't spread it because it just goes everywhere.
A good example. You use frosting for layer cakes. You use icing for sticky buns and bundt cakes.
foa is correct. Icing is for cinnamon rolls. Frosting is for cakes, cupcakes, brownies, sugar cookies and everything else that requires a frost.
Delicious.
I was originally confused by the poll, because what are we debating about? Foa thus confirmed my suspicion about TB trying to fool us. They are two separate things.
They can be used interchangeably. You know, like people do all of the time. Even the dictionary agrees: Icing | Define Icing at Dictionary.com
Either way, they are really sweet.
Frosting sounds more delicious.
If it's made with whipped egg whites, then frosting. Or you can get more specific like butter-cream frosting. :quina:
It's two different things so I voted both!
Frosting is the swirly stuff on cupcakes.
I don't know what the smurf Megan is on about because THIS is icing http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/content/k...cake/image.jpg
Wrong again, liberal media!

The gooey stuff inside delicious Creme Eggs is fondant!
Icing isn't ice and frosting isn't frozen, so I never really got either terms.
Just because a whole bunch of people started using the terms wrong to the point that we had to change to make up for rampant dumbness doesn't mean it's incorrect.
That's fondant, you crazy mothersmurfer.
Yes, also a form of fondant, you crazy mothersmurfer.
Well I dunno how it is in Crazyland but in the United States of FREEDOM, frosting and icing are two different things and displayed on different shelves in every store.
