As summer fast approaches for us North Hemisphereans, I was wondering what some of your favourite things to do outside in the summer are.
Of course there's swimming, but what more creative things do you like to do?

sit inside with the curtains closed and the lights off and play video games and browse the internet
ok time to shave my neckbeard
edit: actual answer is like, go for walks and trout like that. only when it's not too humid, so like zero days out of the summer
When I was younger and living in the more rural area of the neighborhood, I would often hang out and go on adventures in the woods. We would sometimes pretend to use sticks as weapons and kill bad guys on our badass journeys through the woods. It was awesome, and summer was the best time to venture into the woods.
Napping. Always napping.
It's alllmost warm enough to break out the fire pit! And camping. God, I love camping.
I miss wakeboarding, but I haven't been friends with anyone who has a boat in years :(
Chilling outside on the beach with cute girls in biknis, hiking up mountains, festivals, parties, drugs and alcohol, surfing, taking photos. smurf video games.
^ This was my plan for this summer, until I got the dumb idea to search for an internship so I can spend my summer working for smurf all :monster:
I'd bring my Nintendo DS outside if I could be bothered
Go to a theme park. Six Flags Great America is the closest one to my location. I occasionally like to walk out doors in a forest preserve area. Also, generally having a gathering with friends while chilling out and drinking booze is a good feeling.
Walking my dog! BBQs in the park with booze! Beer gardens! Strawberry picking, jogging, reading a book in the park. I love going out in summer when its warm, it feels like a waste of a day if I stay in.
bagga ganja and a frisbee, lather, rinse, repeat. summer taken care of.
Hiking, camping, water skiing, boating, disc golf, tennis, stuff like that.
Also, racing, autocrosses, gymkhanas, and car shows are more fun when it's nice.
Rock Climbing
Hiking/Camping
When I lived in NC I used to ride a friends Sea-Doo all the time. One of the only things I miss.
kayaking is fun, and thankfully there are good places to go here.
I also just love relaxing out in the warm weather.
oh trout kayaking! My mom keeps harassing me about taking me kayaking this summer and I'm exciting to build up She-Hulk arm strength!
It's SO FUN.
I really need to plan another kayaking trip this summer.
It's been too long.
Swimming! I love swinming outdoors. Looking up at the sky while I am floating on my back is so relaxing. I also love jet sking. Would be boss to get to do that this summer, but this time on carribean and not on the murky waters near the Statue of Liberty.
Swimming and mountain hiking. Too bad there's never warm enough water in the seas and inlets here.
Kayaking doesn't take that much arm strength, unless you plan on kayaking some real distance, like more than 2-3 miles
I'd do this too, because HersheyPark is less then 30 minutes away from me. It's got some great coasters, including the worlds fastest lift hill
Pick-me-up sports are fun. I'm terrible at it, but endearingly terrible, so I make friends easily.
Birdwatching!
Also, bird-handling. The raptor centre I volunteer for has asked me to go to some of the county fairs and stand around holding birds and answering questions :D
This thread needs more cricket love. Nothing like chilling out in the sun with a beer when waiting to bat, then seeing five balls when you eventually do.
If you get to hndle falcons and hawks, I am officially jealous. Particularly an Osprey or a Peregrine.
I can't stand being hot, so anything with water or high speeds. Hmm, what has water and high speeds?

Water parks mate. That's my thing in the summer, it even helps me with my ever-increasing agoraphobia.
Water parks are god. Too bad the closest one is 3 hours away. :(
Yeah, well there's always that crappy one in Nashville, but it's just...bleh.
There's one in Nashville? I know Memphis used to have one, but they tore it down along with Libertyland and happiness.
I swear, Memphis is like the Boneyard in Fallout, but with more hipsters and slightly less radiation.
Yeah, it's both an amusement park and a water park. It's got both kinds of rides but it's really terrible. I can't remember what it's called though.
Nashville Shores? Something like that.
It's a Water Park/RV Resort according to the website.
*sigh* Tennessee...
I share your sentiments. Rednecks and bigots everywhere you look, and terrible "activity resorts & tourist traps" as far as the eye can see.
...Tennessee.
I think the closest amusement park for me is like 6 hours away. It's at least 5 to the nearest water park of any significant size.
I mean there is one in my town but it is really tiny. And indoors.
I live like 10 minutes from the nearest water park.
You'd be surprised, my muscles are so weak and tiny ;-; It might not take much strength, but I know that doing it over and over is going to wear me out at first. I doubt we'll go more than 2, 3 miles max.
I greatly, greatly dislike water parks. Rather be in the ocean.
I love sitting in the sun, listening to music or reading a book. Unfortunately sitting in the sun is dangerous for me as I'm literally too pale to tan and burn really easily :roll2
Find a babbling brook and read something compact and very long, like Proust, while gazing at flowers and maidens dancin'.
Using a magnifying glass to lazer the smurf out of some ants.
parasailing is one of my favorites during summer.
I walk around attacking portals o n ingress. Sometimes I bring my 3DS when i have a cooldown..... :D
Am I the only one who has no idea what Freya just said?
It's a geocaching capture the flag game on my phone. It's by google and only on droids :D I have to play a game and physically go places to tag "portals". yeah I have to still be playing a game to get outside.
Lounging on my deck, reading a good book and sipping on my Margarita. :cat:
I love swimming. It's the one thing I really miss moving out of the south where it was hot as hell during the summer. I'm only a dozen or so blocks from the beach, but the Pacific Ocean in San Francisco is not so inviting, temperature-wise.
I am down for some frisbee anytime, though.
Hiking, fishing, swimming. Before it was outlawed here--cliff diving. Baseball.
And I really love to write outside.
Obviously climb a tree.
The hard part is finding one my fat ass won't break :(:(
Working.
Recreation is for people who aren't slaves to the tax man.
You've only had the game for a week. How is that your favorite warm weather outdoor activity? It's not even warm yet! :P
I like to go to baseball games and go places via my feet or a scooter. This summer I'm really hoping to walk from the Pacific Ocean to the sea of Japan with a tent on my back.
This summer, I want to actually do stuff outside. Last summer was a bit too hectic to do much.
This summer, I want to go all Jeremy Wade on some local rivers and catch me some fishes.
I just have to buy a fishing rod and all the doodads that go with it, and learn how to fish all over again, after not having done so since I was six...
swimming and walks! we've already gone on several walks together around the block and at the metropark. I can't wait to take my baby in a pool for the first time :D
Watching hot soccer stars, going to the farmer's market, walkin around in breezy dresses sipping iced lattes on the way to the bookshop.
I think my favorite part about summer is not having to spend 10 minutes scraping snow and frost off of my car every morning before work.
In my country there are only two seasons. So when the warm weather I prefer to use motorcycle for touring. Moreover, if the long journey is much more exciting haha :D
Turing goal to the mountains. I'm bored if kept alone into the mountain area. Although there was little friend who participated. And they are only about four so not too exciting.
I still want to touring to the beach which is located in another country using my bike, maybe  hehe
It must be fun haha :)
I like to go to the driving range, mini golf of course, paintball, basketball with friends, campfires in the woods at night, going for rides on the dirt roads on beautiful summer days or nights, hiking all over the place, fishing. There's so much to do here outdoors any time of the year!
My absolute favorite thing to do is get a group of friends, preferably 4. Take various "stuffs" and hike up to mount Ascutney. About 1/2 way up the mountain on the ski slopes you can cut off and come out to an old cabin on a cliff side. I love hanging out up there and watching the sunset while seeing things from my "stuffs" that I ate.
this is the view you see :D

Nothing beats jogging on the beach when the weather is at its warmest. :)
playing football.
Turning on the air conditioner in my car.
What a great summertime activity :jess:
Dude if you don't know the joy of turning on the air conditioner then YOU have the sad life :colbert: :doublecolbert: :mymelbert: :zombert:
She actually has a point.
Although I think he means more that your idea of an outdoor activity is driving your car. xD
Well I'd be turning the air conditioner on in my house instead of my car if I had an air conditioner in my house.
AC is for the weak!
I ALWAYS open windows when in the car. I'm like a dog: I love the breeze.
I don't use the AC, even at 100+. I drive with the driver-side window down very nearly always. Raining, snowing, hot, cold, whatever.
I can't hear my music if I do that. I just want to listen to the Safety Dance on full blast.
I haven't been friends with anyone who has a boat in yearshttp://meron.gcapc.com/6.jpghttp://meron.gcapc.com/7.jpghttp://meron.gcapc.com/8.jpghttp://meron.gcapc.com/9.jpg
It depends on the people I'm with. In an ideal situation, I'll have friends over and we'll head out to a park and just bask in the sun and talk about random crap while eating ice cream or something. I remember hanging out with Dan, Ellly, Rory and Danielle when they came up for August. We went to the Botanical Gardens and just chilled in the sun near some random college kids performed some kind of play thing I can't remember since it was festival season. Good times. =]
Mount Mansfield is the highest mountain in Vermont with a summit that peaks at 4,393 feet (1,339 m) above sea level
Bozeman is located at an altitude of 4,820 feet (1,468m)
Yeah I don't think you're gonna convince her of your mountainous credentials Bert :p
Also my favorite summertime activity is sitting indoors with the curtains closed and the fan and lights on.
Photography! I love it when it;s summer because our area is always basked with that warm golden light thats guarantees a perfect picture all the time, whatever your subject is even if it's just a flower, or random poo on the ground.
Outside activities? Hmm, I like to ride on my bike, some times horse riding, marathon and of cause swimming.:p
