What do you love about hats?

Hats! Quite marvellous, are they not? Whether to protect your noggin, keep your ears warm or shield your neck or eyes from the harshness of the sun, these accessories are both practical, and an instant way to add a little flair to your style.

A friend knitted me a beret for my birthday this year, and it's quite lovely. Here I will end with my second favourite poem about hats, by Richard Brautigan:

Kafka's Hat

With the rain falling
surgically against the roof,
I ate a dish of ice cream
that looked like Kafka's hat.

I prefer bandannas really, at least at work. I rarely wear hats with the exception of toques in the winter.

Is it odd to base one's entire outfit around a hat? because I do that sometimes

Sometimes my hair is less perfect than usual (not often...but sometimes), in those instances I have about 5 beanies that I can pick from. Also, when my hair was longer they were great for keeping it out of my face at work.

I look sexier with a hat AND it helps deal with the constant precipitation. win/win.

They keep my head all the warm.

Well the top of my scalp is highly susceptible to sunburn so I have to wear a hat if I'm going to be outside for more than ten minutes.

Good thing that only happens about once a year :monster:

Yep. My hair is really dark and my skin is really fair and it's a terrible combination. The dark hair attracts all the heat and then my sensitive scalp gets burned.

Happens every time. Hurts like the dickens.

I used to own a proper vintage fedora, but someone stole it, which still makes me a little sad.

I like them because they hide my bedhead when I don't comb my hair.

I wear a beanie to bed most evenings because it both keeps me warm and blocks out the light.

Hats! Both the cause of, and solution to bed hair ^_^
