Are you often mistaken for being another gender than your own online?
I get it all the time. Playing chicks in games doesn't help either.

Are you often mistaken for being another gender than your own online?
I get it all the time. Playing chicks in games doesn't help either.
One time I made a second account at EoFF called Iri Valentine and posted photos of myself dressed up as a girl. I got a lot of positive comments let me tell you.
Don't be a drag, just be a queen. My motto, so yes.
Dunno. I don't imagine people think I'm male. But then, I could be completely wrong.
Doesn't happen to me, really. Having the real name Daniel and the online name BoB kind of gives away my gender pretty easily.
I can't say that's ever happened to me.
Yes, most newbies here assume by default that I am male, and some returning old-timers do as well. Happens a lot in MMOs as well because I prefer to play male characters.
I don't mind! :)
I actually always assumed you were a girl by default, not really sure why. :p
And yeah, normally when you get as creepy as me, people default to assume male. Apperently woman online aren't creepers or something. :p
I do this on purpose.
Yeah, I knew Pike was a girl too! When I joined she had a Twilight Sparkle set. I know that doesn't mean anything, but if you have MLP anything, I assume you are a woman.
Also, in response to OP:
Look at my username. People think I'm a dude aaaaall the time.
How many of you still think I'm Faris_the_guy in disguise?
I get mistaken for a guy sometimes :(.
I don't get mistaken for a girl, considering the username I use doesn't exactly shouts "Hey, I must be female!" Once, I used a Hatsune Miku avatar, and someone mistook me as being female! He even referred to me as "the lovely Miss Proto."
I get it sometimes since not everyone realizes I took the name Vivi from FFIX, or that Vivi was a dude. Doesn't happen that often, but I find it humorous when it does.
It happens more often outside of EoFF to be honest. I've been using the same name for a long time in a lot of places (probably around 14 years or so now).
That would make more sense then :P
When I first joined, a lot of people thought I was a chick.
I get mistaken for a lot of things, but never for a woman.
Sometimes I get mistaken for a girl. Most of the time people just assume I'm an asshole.
Yes; it doesn't bother me.
I don't remember ever being mistaken for a girl online before. I'm usually pretty good about guessing other people's gender, too.
I don't actually imagine this has ever happened to me. :p
Sometimes I get the occasional "he" or disbelief when I say I'm female because "there are no girls on the Internet!!!!1"
A foreign newbie in chat thought I was a dude once. And I got mistaken for a dude a lot when I was still Demosthenes. Not anymore!
I don't think it's ever happened to me. Unless one of you bastards mistook me for a woman when I joined. :shifty:
I've been mistaken for a girl, but only a few times.
There was a year when a lot of you thought I was a dude.
My name is indefinite.
I've never been mistaken for a dude... That I know of. Unless it happened back when I used "kyo" as my username somewhere else, but I don't recall that happening.
Hey remember back when everyone thought Phil was a girl and it was so bad that he had to change his username?
That was funny.
Didn't help that he had Carina Round as his signature. And not only that, he specifically had to include "boy" in his username when he changed it!
I don't think I was ever under the impression that eternal essence was a girl. xD
I dunno, man. Your name is awfully masculine.
Oh yeah, I always thought eternal essence was a girl too.
I don't think I've ever been mistaken for a girl before. I do usually assume a person is a man until proven otherwise too.
So much so that I used it as the basis for my Lego Ed from Cowboy Bebop avatar. Much less now that we have pictures in our profiles. And now that I'm old.
Not that I know of.
This has never once been an issue for me. I'd guess that it's because my screen name is a reference to a (albeit rather effete) well known male character.
That being said. I devote little to no thought to the gender of the poster when I read forums, simply because I don't see why it should make one whit of difference.
I think actually paying attention to a person's posts might help clear things up for you. Not always, but sometimes.
Say, for instance, eternal essence: how many chicks sign off posts with "Peace out and "? I mean, really?
I often get mistaken for a man.
Never been mistaken for anything other than a bloke but when I first joined here, for about a year or so, I thought Wesley was a man.
Doesn't happen here, for presumably obvious reasons, but I have been confused for a woman at various other places. Doesn't really bother me anymore.
For some odd reason, customer service people sometimes think I'm female over the phone. I don't have anything close to a female voice! I've never been mistaken for a girl in person or over the Internet, though.
I don't think I've ever been mistaken for a woman on the internet before. Although my old roommate made an account here once and she got banned because I guess somebody thought she was a second account :p
I was, however, once mistaken for a woman in real life. Me and Sarah's closest group of friends has a thing called dress-up night, where we all crossdress before going out to have fun. One particularly drunk night, we decided to make ourselves look as convincing as possible, with makeup and wigs and everything. Apparently we succeeded, because on our way out of the bar & grill we were at, a guy stopped me and asked for my number. I don't know if he actually thought I was a woman or if he thought I was transgendered or something, but I gave him the White House phone number
Sounds like a term of endearment, to me. I'm going to start calling you that from now on.
:mad2:
It makes me think of "Miss Cloud" which kind of creeps me out a little, so I won't be calling you that :monster:
I have never been mistaken for a girl as far as I know. Despite the somewhat unique nature of my screen name, I don't think it would really suit a female.
Haha, no, I can't say that I am. I stopped using Demosthenes a long time ago, but in the last few years I started creating profiles for other sites here and there as demosthynes instead (the properly spelled name was already taken and I continued with the y for the sake of consistency).
I have never been confused. Not that I know, that is.
I do, however, often make this mistake. I still associate a member's avi with their gender at times, that leads to some confusion. If the person doesn't specify gender, I'm really at a loss unless I've seen that person around forever.
I thought laddy was a girl and shion was a guy, just to mention this place.
Before I joined this forum I was really active on another Final Fantasy forum for about two years. They always called me he/him and I decided not to correct them cause why not.
They never figured it out.
i guess in this topic every girl wil say 'Yes' ans evey boy 'no' :P
i am most of the time being mistaken for a boy, eben though i use the name Shaibana, wich seems quit feminine to me
that counts for the online game(s)
Reminds me of
Definitely female here.
I don't think anyone could confuse me for a girl online. I'm not macho or anything, but my tone doesn't exactly lean to the feminine.
Until a few years ago though, I got confused for a girl all the time in real life due to my (used to be) tiny stature and long hair.
