Hello ladies and gentlemen! Just thought I'd introduce myself. I am a graphic designer who is currently working on a brand new online Trading Card Game, titled Eminence. This is my first major personal project with industry talents working alongside me to produce something unique for the mobile app market, console and web. The game itself takes inspiration from classic RPGs like; final fantasy (Triple Triad), Kingdom Hearts and Zelda, puzzle games; Candy Crush, Bejeweled and Battlecamp, as well as community driven cooperative play (Multiplayer, Team based coop and a fully integrated Guild system).

I'll be promoting more artwork and exclusive screenshots of this game in the forthcoming weeks. For those who wish to learn more or would like to contribute ideas and feedback, feel free to drop me a message!

I really like the logo and style of typography. It's sort of fantasy with sci-fi and tribe-ish vibe combined and it works.

The environment piece is sick on itself, really really really impressive. The knight on the other hand seems a little bit stuck onto it and I'd say could do with a little more blending.

Good stuff though, real good.

I really dig the art style in general. It's simple, yet elegant.

How in the world did I miss this? That art work is GORGEOUS. I like the simplicity of it but the intricate details in the symbols. They are like runes. I'm very impressed and very interested. I'm not big on trading card games but this looks great.

I thought I would update the thread by involving the community with our current situation. We have finished developing the layout of the Eminence universe and have designed an illustrative world map, however we are an indecisive bunch and would like to get your creative input on what to call our celestial sphere.

That's some good looking stuff as always. I dig the animations, they look very professional. One thing that kinda bothers me in the trailers though is that the whole reveal is snappy and awesome, but then the website shows up so slow it kinda breaks that style and to me feels kinda anticlimatic. I know it's a detail but I thought I'd mention it anyway!

Not sure if I mentioned it before, but I really dig the typography. Good balance between the whimsical logo style and the bold and sharp character names and attributes!

Edit: also, are the character illustrations done in Illustrator or Photoshop? Just curious!

Hello Pete! Not nitpicky at all, we appreciate any feedback given. Thank you for pointing that out to us!

The typography will be available for download soon, so will be sure to update you on that. In regards to the character illustrations, we actually use both photoshop and illustrator. The lineart for example we used illustrator, and the gradients are implemented through photoshop. Thank you again for your support thus far! It means the world to us. :D

I literally want to rub it on my face. The board itself is pleasantly simple and has nice, striking features, and I like how the background is really pretty but doesn't draw your attention from the actual game area. Just a really nice design all-round.

Hello Miss Mae, thank you for your compliments. Yes, players will be able to fully customise looks, skin tone, accessories and colourizing of armour.

We are pleased to reveal a sneak peek of our card battle system!

It seriously looks fantastic. The only critique I have is that it's a bit hard to follow which cards belong to which player as the game progresses. In Triple Triad, the whole background takes on that colour. Not saying you should do that, but with all the other cool effects and eye candy, and the player colour only being details on the edges, it's a bit harder to keep an overview.

That's a pretty minor gripe though. Loving it :D

The numbered sides on each card are colour coded based on who is blue / red. I can understand where you're coming from and we may implement additional design aesthetics to bring out the players cards more. Thank you for your suggestion, it means a lot!

Omigosh, I need to lurk the art forums more so I don't miss stuff like this.

This is looking absolutely awesome for the most part and as a pretty big Triple Triad fan (and TT tournament champ :smug:) I'm very interested.



After watching the gameplay video, I do have some things I'd like to bring up though.

First of all, I noticed that no Same rule was in play. Will Plus/Same rules (or similar rules) exist in the game?

Secondly, I noticed that "combos" seem to activate from taking over a card the normal way (with a stronger number) which doesn't happen in TT. I don't have a direct problem with that, however... having played a whole lot of PvP Triple Triad, I can clearly say that the person who gets to put down the first and the last card always has a slight edge. In TT, this is mostly because - if you have the opponent's cards figured out, you can either force a situation where your last card placed will combo and the opponent can do nothing about it, or you can ensure that you just take enough cards with your last card to either win or force a draw.

...in a case where simply taking over any card results in combos, the player placing the last card gets an even greater advantage. A far too big of an advantage I would say. In TT, it's still harder to make the last card count by carefully planning a way to create a Same/Plus opportunity for it. If combos are triggered by any card getting flipped, it becomes a lot easier for the player placing the last card to just focus on making sure that the last combo will last long enough to flip enough cards etc.


I'm also curious if there's going to be a timer involved. When playing TT with all cards revealed, thinking several turns ahead is extremely important. I think a timer could be nice to have though. It shouldn't be too short, since the thinking ahead part is what makes the game strategical. But if you have all day to make a move, I know for a fact that I will take all the sweet time I'm given to think a move through properly before I place a card. And the person on the other side might or might not have the patience for that. :greenie:

To answer some of your questions; yes there will be same/plus rules. The card game in Eminence: Xander's Tales (known as the Card Battle System or CBS for short) consists of a number of rules.Here's a brief summary of how they work (more information can be found on this page of our website http://playeminence.com/game/dueling)When players engage in a game they can select any number of rules to govern the duel (the same/plus being amongst them).

However, to make things easier to understand, rules are organised into three categories:

Normal - Which has rules like Open, Random etc.
Combos - Rules contained include the Infinite Combo (the one seen in the video),
Same and Plus Eminence - Which has unique rules to Eminence such as Wildcards, Gems (where the numbers are replaced by actions your avatar performs).

Similarly, once a game begins, players can also choose the trading rules which basically determines how many cards the winner gets (i.e. 1 to 5).However, in order to use some of the more advanced rules (combo and eminence rules), players have to unlock them by improving their rank in the game. This is done to ensure everyone learns the basics first.Regarding the Infinite Combo, it's still a working progress as we're ironing out the details of how this rule should work. You made some good points and we'll keep them in mind. Yes, there will be a timer in all the card duels. This is to further enhance the strategic nature of the game. Our trailer for the Kickstarter campaign will show additional footage of some of the other rules as well as the MMORPG environment.

Regarding our approach of art style, this was driven by the storyline:

"Within the previous events of the current timeline in Eminence, three Divine Archaics foresaw a prophecy where the world would finally be rid of its endless loop of destruction in the next cycle.

For this to happen, they predicted a timeline of events necessary to occur in order for the world to be salvaged. In the discovery, Xander uncovered numerous cards etched with the faces of different individuals who appeared to have a key role to play in the predicted events. The scriptures warned that the individuals marked on the cards must never become aware of their fate, for the prophecy would distort – creating an alternate line of events which could continue to push the world into despair."

To reflect this we looked to our own history for inspiration, combining elements of Ancient Egypt's hieroglyphics and church stained glass windows to develop a style deep in mythology. We have also paid careful attention to merge and include these elements in certain parts of the game world when it is relevant to the story. Hopefully you'll find that it works quite well.

Question: Can you make a deck, of sorts, of cards from multiple divisions? Or must the cards you use only be from one set division? Do you choose your division at the start of the game, and if so, are you able to change it on the fly to try out different divisions? Or must you always play as an agent of [so and so] Division?

Basically I just wanna be able to collect 'em all. xD

Hi Quin! You will be able to carry a versatile deck. Including cards from multiple divisions. When you customise your avatar at the start, your armour will reflect a division that exists within the world of Eminence, but this can be altered later in the game if you decide to pledge your allegiance to another division. Currently there are no advantages of your cards reflecting your avatars division choice, we have left people open to customise their decks fully with no limitations on what cards you can choose from.

Hey Quin! Initially it'll be released for iOS and browser. With room for expansion on Steam, Android and Consoles.

If you don't get it on Android devices immediately, I'm going to put post-it notes all over wherever it is you're working reminding you to get it on Android, and I'll even become computer literate to an advanced degree and hack your Kickstarter page and put post-it notes all over that as well. If you have any pets or loved ones, I will also cover them in post-it notes.

For years, this notorious Division has groomed troubled young girls into merciless killers. Harlequins are trained to subdue their emotions and lend their powers to other nations for financial and political benefits. As their purpose to create conflict benefits them financially, some believe they are influencers of key wars which have plagued Artalys. Harlequins heighten their Alchemy powers by pledging to the Guardian Gemini. They're brought up to believe that the state of happiness in a dying word is an illusion which hastens ones death.

Gemini - Divinity of Chaos


Once known by the Harlequins as the beautiful war maidens, Rozlyn and Nimesh wielded legendary fighting abilities. One shined with bright intellect and the other elicited extraordinary strength and agility. The two, un-separated for years went on to win battle after battle.

Nimesh came to resent Rozlyn for her remarkable strength. Seduced by the dark power contained in the relics, she absorbed too much antima and lost her soul to the guardian Gemini. Nimesh, consumed by the guardian waged destruction and began slaughtering in countless numbers. Forced to battle her own, a duel between sisters collided into a bloody fight. With the conflict ending in both of their deaths.

Their legacies lived on through their youngest sister Roza, who cried endlessly for their return. The souls of Rozlyn and Nimesh manifested into Roza's mind, and their war continued. With one trying to use Roza's body as a vessel for destruction and the other vowing to protect her youngest sibling. We discussed with Kaycee regarding a potential Q&A, we are delighted to somehow get involved with eyesonff and have an article pushed out. What is it you'll need from us?

Guilds are one of the most exciting parts of Eminence: XT. Form allegiances with other players or invite your friends to join and earn bragging rights by defeating other Guilds. Work together as a team to tackle some of the games toughest quests and uncover the Eminence: XT story together.Being a member of a Guild gives you access to Guild Duelling, where you and four other members of your team can go head to head with another Guild.

In addition to Guild bases (which will be explained in a later update), cards can still be wagered giving the winning Guild the opportunity to take cards from the losing Guild in ranked GvG (Guild vs Guild) duels.

Also that, considering cards can (potentially) be purchased with real money, it can constitute a form of gambling (which is largely also why Wizards of the Coast dropped a similar format, called Ante, from Magic the Gathering) and the legal rammifications thereof?

Hi Aulayna!

As with any other MMO, security is important to us and we're taking careful considerations to keep potential vulnerabilities in mind. You can only lose a card if you choose to play with the "Card Steal" rule on in PvP.

Cards are not purchased with "real" money in Eminence but through the virtual currency to stabilise in game transactions. Players can also earn the in game currency via completing various activities such as quests etc. I hope that answers your question!

Greetings Alchemists, time for another edition of our Road to Launch updates.


We sat down and thought hard about when we'll be able to let you guys try out an alpha build. We decided to aim for the fall. We'll do our best to hopefully give you guys a taste of what's to come. The alpha will give you the opportunity to start creating your accounts and challenging other players around the world. In the process, you'll be able to start building your decks and give us valuable feedback, helping to shape the development of the game.

It honestly still wounds me that this game never happened.

Well, looks promising but not sure what transpired in between that led to nothingness. But I reckon everyone had dreams once and somehow it did work out in the end. Maybe it is that part about having dreams & hope that matters and not the result.

PS: DID YOU EVEN DONATE?

It was funding issues. They needed extra money to get the game on Andriod iOS for a couple years, but it didn't generate enough moolah and they had to discontinue it.

You did not sell your books on piss jokes to fund them? :(
