It wasn't until I watched dr unnes play through using the PSP version of this game that I realized how adorable the sprites were.

So now I've decided that the PSP version has the best sprites for ff1. Yah I said it.

Glad you like them, I despise that style. They look way too out of place against 2D backgrounds.

I believe everyone should follow in Dr.Unne's footsteps and name their fighter lwlftw. Clearly, the name to rise above all names.

I'm not a huge fan of the PSP version's sprites, actually. I prefer the ones from the WS, PS1, and GBA versions. Still, they're pretty adorable.
I like them better than the original, but they could have been done differently too. They are an improvement with room for some more improvement. ;)
But that flowing hair of fighters is amazing guys. Get on my level here. We like pretty hair an ridiculous outfits.
I'm not a fan, if I'm honest. I didn't mind the Dawn of Souls designs. I can't quite put my finger on why. They look a little amateur-ish. Not in the sense that they're done badly, but they just look like they should be in someone's RPG Maker game.
First impression was that I hated them. But they grew on me. They did a stellar job on the PSP ports. At least they kept the graphics mostly true to the original. Same poses etc. They changed Black Wizard significantly but the change was an improvement.

freya you read my mind. i did not know how adorable they were either tell i saw the stream :x in fact i just said in chat that i would get the psp versions just for the super cute sprites xD THEY ARE ADORBS

To be honest, when I first saw the videos of the IOS version of Final Fantasy V I figured it must have been fan-made somehow. I'm probably just not appreciating the work that went into it, though.Quote:

Why not? More people have smartphones than PSPs or DSes. More people bring them with them whereever they go too.
just do not get it xD i never understand cell phones. why are they even called phones anymore? it is like you can do everything on them and 60% of the world does at the worst times making it super annoying.

but really? phone controls? :x for angry birds maybe but FF? xD maybe it does work. just cannot beat a actually game controller for me.
THey're called cell because they still use a cellular network, and they're called phone because it's easier and faster to say than "communication device".

Well, the sprite style isn't exactly the smartphones' fault. Personally, I mostly play on my GBA emulator on my smartphone.
Do I wish I had physical keys to control the games? Yeah, but sometimes you have to compromise.
Crap, I feel like running through this agian on the PSP again because of this thread.
Anyway, I also think the ios versions of FFV and VI (saw a screenshot on Kotaku) look terrible.
As for the PSP version of FFI? Great all around! I also really loved the same type of polished treatment FFIV got on the PSP.
No thought. You are right. I'm really dreading FFVI remake now. FF1 PSP is very nice compared to other remakes they have worked on. We need to send someone from eoff to work in the FF department at Square. I nominate Dr Unne. Pssst please help them on VI before they finish this phone remake!Quote:
