Final Fantasy VI and Chrono Trigger/Cross are the objectively best game soundtracks of all time. Honourable mentions to (in no particular order) the entire Zelda series, FFIX, several entries in the Dragon Quest series, several entries in the Suikoden series, Secret of Mana, Seiken Densetsu 3, Super Metroid, a bunch of Motoi Sakuraba soundtracks, and a bunch of other Yasunori Mitsuda soundtracks. There's probably more I'm not thinking of but that's a fair kickoff selection.
Chrono Cross has the best videogame soundtrack in my estimation.

I have an obsession with the song in Xenosaga 2's title screen. I'll have to give this some more thought when I have more time and post some good musics for everyone to listen to.
Oh trout, I forgot to mention The Binding of Isaac. The entire soundtrack is so smurfing killer, I love it.

I actually kind of like Mass Effect's style, too, and wish there were more like it. I keep thinking of stuff like Raptor that I used to play in the 90's... they used a kind of similar style that I feel isn't used enough these days.

Oh, oh wait... what's that there... Yes, it's the theme that has represented the Elder Scrolls franchise since Morrowind, the theme so beautiful that it cannot be replaced, only remixed, rewritten, replayed. I would put the hour long youtube loops of this on and LEAVE them on!

Theme of Tara This is where it all began and it began awesomely.
Wavelet Metal Gear 2 was in all ways superior to the first and that includes music. Its soundtrack is surprisingly good and I'd say this is the best song on it.
Metal Gear Solid "Enclosure" - YouTube - This song is probably why so many people found her death so sad.
Can't Say Goodbye To Yesterday My all-time favorite credits music in the MG series. It's so uniquely MGS2 that, while it's a wonderful song in its own right, it becomes something more to me simply because of that fact. In no other MGS game could this song work but it is absolutely perfect for Sons of Liberty.
Arsenal Gear While the Normal theme is even more creepy than Rex's Lair, it's not nearly as imposing. What I love from this is the "Alert Mode" music.
Takin' on the Shagohod Easily Top 3 boss themes in the series.
Soldier vs. Ghost(Cyborg Ninja Theme) I recently tried replaying Twin Snakes and man it sucks. Nevertheless, this is another Top 3 contender for best boss theme in the series.
Gene's Boss Theme from Portable Ops I'm gonna be bold and declare this my all time favorite boss theme in the series. Call the game "POOPS" or whatever but I love the soundtrack and I even enjoy some parts of the game.

Pretty much all FF music is awesome! Most of my favourites come from Crisis Core though, probably because of the depth of feeling that goes into them.
Some of my favourites:
Crisis Core - A Moment of Courtesy - Not entirely sure why I like this, but its probably one of my favourite tracks - just makes me smile every time I hear it
Crisis Core - The Price of Freedom - Still can bring a tear to me eye if I let it!
Crisis Core - Credits Medley - just an awesome medley of FFVII music!
FFXI - The Sanctuary of Zi'Tah The best music in FFXI, I'd go into this zone occasionally just to listen to the music.... probably the only good thing about camping the Keeper so often and never getting a drop!
I don't tend to clock music from many other games...they're alright, but no FF!
The few I remember would be: Some of the field music from the Star Oceans were really good. The music in Disgaea and Persona 3 (only one I played) were different, but so catchy! Oh and for some retro - Phantasy Star 4 had some fantastic music!

What ARE you talking about, Final Fantasy VIII objectively has the best soundtrack of all time. There's also FF7 and Clannad, but FF8 takes it.

Touhou has some of my fav tracks of all time, but the remixes are seriously better than the original versions for the most part thanks to the improved sound quality.

Deus Ex : HR was pretty sexy too. Ifeel like they really captured the essence of what the game's atmosphere was like in the soundtrack. The first time I heard the Main Menu Theme I nearly creamed my pants. And that was before I even started playing.

Apparently. If I were to list more than 1 song per game it will be a long, long list. But as it stands they are my favourite songs from said games. Chrono was close to being Corridors of Time, but the feeling I first got entering the world map in the past and hearing Wind Scene was magical.Quote:

Didn't like most of P3's music (Or the game that much for instance. I played FES on PS2) but I liked that song.
While I like Stickerbrush Symphony there were actually several songs in DKC2 that I liked better.
