The Return of Community

So.... as many of you on here may or may not know, Community, the NBC comedy returns on January 2nd after an extremely uneven, some would even say disaster of a 4th season. Creator/mastermind/insane person Dan Harmon returns to the fold this time around and has already been talking about making Season 4 a distant memory. I had the good fortune to get a pre-screening of the first episode of this season and all I will say is, Harmon was sorely missed. That spark of insanity that also is what made the show so unique seems to have returned and while I don't want to jinx anything, I think the show we all loved may just get its mojo back.

So, for all you Human Beings out there, what do you hope we see this season? Are you willing to give it another shot? Or did you enjoy Season 4 and don't understand the hubbub around Harmon's return? Or do you think the show has been Britta'd beyond repair?

I'm very excited for this. I dropped off during season 4, not because it was super horrible or anything, it just lost the charm that made me keep watching.

I only started watching recently since they've been playing reruns on 38 The Spot. Not sure which episodes are Season 4 or if I would really notice much change. I've enjoyed what I seen of it so far so if I can remember the time and everything I'll tune in to watch it.

Season 4 was the worst of the bunch sure, but a bad season of Community is still better than a good season of most other shows.

Looking forward to see what Season 5 brings. Ever closer to 'six seasons and a movie'! :jiro:

The start of S4 was dreadful but I stuck through it and it settled on average towards the middle and end. Cant wait for S5 to bring it back to being streets ahead

Streets Ahead - Community Rap

I'm not sure if that music video is insane or brilliant. Probably both. Kind of reminds me of a gimmick poster on AVClub who does rappin' Jake Sisko for Deep Space nine updates.

I have high hopes for this season, not just because it can't be worse then season 4 or because Harmon is back, but because Jonathan FREAKING Banks is going to be in most episodes and John Oliver will be back. You can't go wrong with those two. Though losing Donald Glover mid-season will definitely hurt and despite being a B in real life, I still love Chevy Chase and miss him too.

This is pretty much how I feel about Season 4. It's not the show's best but I did enjoy it. I think what was so massively disappointing about it for most people was just knowing how much better the show had been in the past.

Donald Glover isn't leaving, his role is just being reduced so he can work on other projects, namely Atlanta​. He'll appear in 5 of the 13 planned episodes.

Season 4 was weak, but not completely terrible. There were still several laughs and it was, at the very least, enjoyable to watch. Hopefully with Harmon returning the show can get back to its roots but I wouldn't be surprised if this was the last season.

Still going through season one as my friend gifted me the dvds recently :) and I love it! Obviously can't contribute to what I'd like to see in the new season as I need to watch more seasons though. Just wanted to share my excitement! :P

I'm the only person I know that watches this. I choose to believe I'm better than them.

I didn't think season 4 was all that bad. They seem to have a lot of drama going on with Chevy Chase. I remember reading somewhere (no source alert) that the new writers brought in were being asked to pump out scripts so fast they were writing lines on set. Considering the clustersmurf they were thrown into, they managed.

I'll miss you, Donald Glover's abs.

Third episode sucked.

Fourth episode was sentimental yet humourous. Community at it's finest. I loved the restuarant scene

Finally managed to catch a new episode. I thought it was hilarious ^_^

I really liked Cooperative Polygraphy. It was funny, of course, and sentimental, like blackmage_nuke said. I also liked the character depth in this one (as I always have), particularly the study group's relationships with each other, and admittances to the mistakes they've made. I've always fond of the way this show handled friendships. And that last bit with (SPOILER)Troy wanting to take Pierce's bequeathment (THE BOAT IS NAMED THE CHILDISH TYCOON FFS :crying:) and everyone's reaction to it made me feel things. :<

I also like how it had a similar name to Cooperative Calligraphy which was also a bottle episode like this one (aside from the restuaraunt scene/puppy parade)

I thought this was a pretty good episode. I like the way they're building Hickey's relationship with each of the other characters, and I enjoyed seeing his and Annie's dynamic. I also enjoyed the not-GoT jokes and the ending tag. XD

Square Deanix is one of the most financially successful companies. XIII was never released in its form in our timeline; VI, VII, VIII, IX remakes were made; Versus XIII was already released as XIII; Type-0 got an American release; and lots of other good stuff I bet.

Watching the Bear Down for Midterms scenes play out was like magic, because you could just instantly see how much of a classic Community moment it was going to be. You could see it happening. Bear Down for Midterms. Fat dogs! So smurfing amazing. I laughed my ass off.

So, last night's episode, Bondage and Beta Male Sexuality, wasn't my favorite (and apparently a lot of reviews said the same thing), but I did enjoy seeing Abed/Hickey bond, as well as Chang's and Duncan's parts (but not so much Jeff's). The end tag cracked me up.

It was a weird episode, but enjoyable. I kind of wished we would have gotten a bit more of Chang in there.

It was good, not great but they rarely bring out the big guns imediately after a time gap.

I liked it c:

First time watching it, was rather confusing and I wasn't sure what to make of it. Second time watching it, made more sense and I felt it was more appreciative.

I agree. Chang's scenes were by far the funniest. Odd that Annie and Shirley were barely in it.

I sort of expected Britta to pull something like that... to Britta her revolution.

Loved the apartment stuff this ep. The storage room stuff was ok, it feels like they shoe horned that in to give Shirely a story. The end of episode bit was brilliant

That was a pretty good episode. I liked last week's better, though. I enjoyed the Pile of Bullets stuff more than the chemistry book stuff, but sassy criminal Shirley made it cool. The episode also made me miss Troy. :(

I pretty much agree with everything Paper Star said. The last episode was better, but this was still pretty good. I was almost mad about the Pile of Bullets bit because (SPOILER) I didn't want to see Abed lose his relationship so soon. It would have made bringing her back feel kind of pointless.

Yeah, (SPOILER)I was afraid for Abed's sake because I didn't want him to lose another person close to him, especially after Troy. But I'm glad they worked it out.

I liked the episode. I am so glad that Abed and Rachel are dating now, and I hope we get to see more of Annie's brother in the future, though I doubt that would happen. :(

What the hell, who knew Vince Gilligan and dan harmon knew each other.

Loved "Advanced Advanced Dungeons & Dragons." I lol'd at the (SPOILER)"lightning bolt! lightning bolt!" bit; I'm glad they put that in. I think the first D&D episode is still my favorite out of the two, but this was an enjoyable watch. :D

Other than that I liked this dnd better than the first dnd.

I think this episode would be better in my mind had there not been the first one. I just think that first episode was much more satisfying all in all. This episode was full of great moments, though. The episode felt kind of rushed to me, honestly.

It was fun having (SPOILER) Tobias Funke (whatever the actual actor's name is) in the episode. Also, while the ending felt like it wasn't much of a conclusion, part of me feels like it was purposefully done to give the same notion Hickey had when Abed let the necromancer escape. We honestly don't need to see who won in the end (if either of them did win).

I think I liked this one because it was a slightly more accurate representation of DnD and there was less metagaming. Though the "In my turn I feel sorry for Pierce" scene in the first one did pull some feels

I agree with both of the above posts. Honestly, I would have liked it to be a two parter that either (SPOILER)switches between the cartoon and real world stuff, or had a live action episode which lead into the cartoon version.

It was still very enjoyable to watch though!

I whole heartedly agree with the two parter thing. It feels like there wasnt enough time to create signifigant emotional buildup

Well, I liked the episode for the most part, but didn't love it. If they had spent more time with Jeff's problem and less on riffing on cartoon world vs. real world, then I might've felt more emotionally involved. Like the rest of you, it would have worked better as a two-parter so that it didn't feel force/rushed.

Super excited for this Thursday's episode! The last two-parter Community did (Season 2's Paintball Finale, if I remember correctly) was absolutely awesome. I think they'll do this season's finale justice.

So this episode wasn't bad. I'm used to is this even a spoiler? meh, I don't knowbeing on the Jeff x Annie wagon (I know... leave me alone), but Jeff x Britta does make sense and I don't mind it. And for some reason, I thought some of Abed's parts seemed a little forced, but I don't know if that's just me.

This episode also made me hungry.

I really want Jeff and Britta to end the show in a full circle

I yelled out loud when it ended abruptly, can hardly wait for next episode.

I agree, Abed felt forced at the start.

This season just wasn't very funny to me - D&D, G.I. Jeff, saving the school yet again? It just all feels pretty forced and like Harmon is out of ideas - stuff that seemed groundbreaking in the first couple of seasons just seems pretty standard, now.

I hope season 6 starts inside Hickey's bunker and were unsure if humanity has been wiped out.

No sixth season on NBC at least. I suppose there is always the chance it might end up an exclusive Hulu series since they have the streaming rights, or maybe it might be picked up somewhere else. I'm hoping we'll get one more season and a movie. Or the world of Community was hit with an asteroid.

Yeah it's pretty cool that this series keeps getting revived but at this point it's more of a shadow of itself. Seasons 1-3 made it worth fighting for but I can see Bunny's point at this stage.

Yes. The first was alright. The second though I found to be pretty funny and a cool premise. It's about the Dean going into virtual reality and then getting him out!

I'm a huuuuge Community fan, but this season has been pretty hit or miss for me. I think my favorite episode this season is Advanced Safety features. I also really, really love the B-story in Basic Crisis Room Decorum.

Pretty funny season finale but for something with no definite future it doesnt feel like a series finale. I miss the 22 ep seasons.

Did anyone else notice after he dropped annie and abed off at the airport when theyre back at the bar theres some guy staring at them from the bathroom? Whats up with that? A clue for the movie/season 7?

The teaser for the finale didn't impress me, so I'm very happy that the actual episode itself exceeded my expectations. Liked it a lot. I'm thinking of watching it again, actually.

And I did notice that guy in the background staring! I was wondering what that could mean.

Also, I was so used to Community being on TV that I kept doing double takes whenever they said the f-word. XD
