Anybody here a collector of physical video games, accessories, systems, etc...? I'm sure a lot of people have large collections of games for virtual consolesand ROMsbut I was wondering if we have any collectors in the crowd.
I've gotten rid of much of my stuff and I don't really collect. I suppose there are some things I'll never get rid of and do actively want to expand on like my Dreamcast library though.
A good friend of mine is something of a collector, as well as someone with an unnatural talent for making a profit buying and selling games, many of them rare collector's items in and of themselves. The major stuff he's into collecting for himself now though is PC-Engine games (and systems sort of since he stumbled his way into owning several this fall), and arcade boards for some rarer games that also happen to be amazing. We had a hell of a fun time playing a lot of his stuff when he was visiting for a few months this fall.
I have a pretty big SNES and NES collection that's been gradually building since I was a kid. They're generally stored away but I will delve into them from time to time for some retro goodness. I've got quite a lot of handheld consoles too spanning from the very first Gameboy to the current crop of next gen handhelds.
Most of the games I played as a kid were not "mine", they were "the family's", and as such I've had a horribly late start on a game collection. I did manage to snag all 200+ Commodore 64 games we had (before they were tossed), and since then I have started working on a collection of Favorites, all of which sit at a vaunted location above my computer.
For the most part, though, my collection is digital. I currently lack both the room and funds for much of a physical collection. So I accumulate Steam games instead.
I've always wished I had the money to be more of a video game collector. I definitely prefer having physical copies of stuff rather than just downloading them in one form or another. There was a used game store by where I lived at last summer that I would often keep my eyes out for rarer stuff because I could sometimes get them for cheaper there. I got Fire Emblem Path of Radiance for pretty cheap there.
I do kind of collect systems, though. At least, that's what I'll probably start collecting more of when I have the money. Unfortunately, I might need to replace my Turbografx-16 and Atari 7800. My Turbografx Express is on its last legs too, I think.
It's my time to shine. Myself and Miss MItchell have huge library of games for the Gamecube, Wii, Xbox 360, PS2, PS3, DS, 3DS and PSP. I think it's roughly about 500 games worth, but I've never stopped to count.
I also pick up collectors editons of games, so I get extras like figures. I have been picking up tales Vesperia Figurines and Final fantasy mini figures as well.
I can take pictures and show off if you guys are interested?
Given a rough count, I've got about 120 Xbox 360 games, 70 PS3 games (not counting digital downloads of course), 40 DS/3DS games, 20ish PSP games, probably 150-200 PS2 games, and 40 or so PS1 games. (PS1/PS2 are in boxes so I don't have a real count).
Right-o since it was requested here we go:

Took way longer to put together than I thought. That's a lot of stuff. We have all these games, but still have crappy internet. What gives.
Dude. Mr. Shauna. Shauna. Adopt me, please? We can combine our collections :D?
That collection is gonna be hard to top. smurf me bloody.
Thank god you organized those alphabetically and by systems. Otherwise my OCD might go nuts.
Though I actually don't organize my stuff alphabetically. I put it in order from my least favourite to favourite games. But obviously only I can actually tell.
I have every version of FFIV except for the Wonderswan Color. Maybe I should get it one day, but whatever. *looks at Mr. Shauna's pictures*
I ****ing suck.
Uh, anyway...I don't really go out of my way to collect stuff, but I know I own somewhat rare titles like Earthbound, Rez (PS2), Guitaroo Man (PS2), some Gundam fighting game for the PS1...and others I sure am forgetting. My games stuff is in...a order? They're all in good condition, but strewn about in shelves and drawers.
....
I ****ing suck.
The collection has taken off recently due up the fact that myself and Shauna have have full tine jobs and very small outgoings.
The games themselves are a random assortment of items we wanted to play. So games like the all the ratchet and clank games are in there, and skies of Arcadia for the gamecube. It also had items like mindjack and vampire rain that I pick up for cheap as a student.
The figurines are a new edition. It started with finding out that there was a statue of anges included with the collectors edition of bravely default. I wasn't going to let anges be my first figurine, so I went for Rita, which is my favorite video game character. The smaller figures I stumbled across randomly, the are "Mini Trading Arts" which usually come in sets of 5. I just work on expanding the rest after that, the tales of figures and Estelle were acquired last week.
The key blades are Shauna's. She got one set at a convention and another on eBay. The mario kart trophies are mine. Found out they came from club nintendo I mentioned in another thread, and started to collect them. The mushroom cup is the only one I've actually gotten fron the store.
Edit: forgot to mention, I forgot to include the picture of the Pokemon badges, our sprite art and chocoholic pluses. I'll update that later.
I use to collect consoles until my mom decided it was a good idea to trash all my old systems. She even trashed my duck hunt gun along with the game. I was able to salvage some of the old NES and SNES games though and they're hidden along with my PSone and old PC games. I actually think it's quite funny when people come over my house and they're like "wow you have so many games". It's like dude, you're just looking at the new gen, PS2, and Xbox games. The best is hidden away.
I'm still jealous of all you people who get to keep old consoles. In my family pretty much anything that wasn't bought with my own money is not mine so all the consoles I had as a kid are not mine. :whimper:
There is a cool effect regarding the chest. Protip this video is muted, you can turn on the sound by hovering on the video
The trophies themselves are swell, and are becoming super hard to come by. If I'm right the remaining 2 will be added to club nintendo Europe in April/May for the release of Mario Kart 8. Then the collection will be complete :3

I don't considered myself a collector in the traditional term, but over the years I've acquired a pretty big collection of PlayStation 1 and 2 games. I also have a pretty decent size collection of N64, GameCube and Xbox 360 games and a fair few GBC, GBA, PS3 and PC games with two games for the Nintendo DS. All still in working condition.
That's pretty much how we started. I picked up games because they were on sale such as Bioshock or the Prince of Persia 2008 because they were in a 2 for £20 and picking up more expensive key titles like Tales of Vesperia and Super Mario Galaxy when they first came out. Since getting a job we have bought every game that we were interested in and I now pick up games on launch day via Amazon. I swear we'll play them all one day :P
I have nowhere near as impressive (or organised!) a collection as the Shauna's. I had a sort through all my retro boxes at the weekend though so here is my little collection...
My NES and N64 collection is small and inoffensive, like Psychotic's genitalia. My SNES collection is my pride and joy.

That is the majority of them. There are others as well. I've got quite a big PS2 collection but looking at those games just makes me sad that I don't have a working consle to play them on :(
I am a game collector, which annoys some of my friends cause I get fussy when I try to buy a used game and its not available with its box and instruction manual. I've also never sold or traded a game I've ever owned so my collection has grown over the years. According to my Backlogger account I have over 350 games in my collection, though about 30 of them are digital downloads.
People don't understand the frustration of not having a manual. It's like an Artbook you get wit a collectors edition. You'll never actually look at it, but having it makes you feel warm inside.
And then when you do need it for something you remember you bought the copy that didn't come with an instruction manual :stare:
I can't tell you how many times this has happened to me. NEVER AGAIN!
It's unnatural. I'm with Wolf though. Never sold or turned in any of my games. I wouldn't really call myself a collector, because I have been known to give away certain games I love to people I love. And then miss them and re-buy them. But I refuse to ever buy a game without its case or manual. It's just wrong. Makes me sad about some digital games I own
I have been collecting games since 1987 but I only keep what I think is worth saving so my collection is probably half as big as it could be.
I have traded in maybe four games ever. I realised it wasn't worthwhile. I don't collect so much as I hoard what I get. I would love to have a collection of playarts or something but they're smurfing expensive and just getting games is sending me broke enough.
I've been picking up mini play arts as they are a lot cheaper and space is limited. I would like to branch out and get more, but space is currently an issue. Maybe I'll throw money at more when I have bills to pay...
