Does anyone here have a reddit account? Do you use reddit often?
You're approaching this like it's some sort of foreign land.
Let me get the reddit ambassador on the phone really quickly.
And you deleted Jinx's post.
Silly subject, silly posts.
It's foreign to me. Not everyone uses it. Simple questions, really.
I'm on reddit a lot. It's my go to boredom site. Besides eoff that is. I usually see news or images there before the rest of the internet. I really like all the subreddits. Some are too small to get much interaction but a decently active one will get you a lot of interaction with like minded people. The big ones though, it's hard to be personable with anyone.
I like that depending on what subreddits I subscribe to, they will be on my front page. I llike that, means I don't have to see all the same stuff from places I don't care about.
yes all the time and i hate it so much
It would be super cool if reddit users could visit our links on reddit!

We need to incorporate more features from these websites if want to stay relevant.
I think everyone could agree on an upvote system on EoFF. :)
I think not. We like to keep things positive around here, and with upvotes also come downvotes.
We have a similar system in place as it is! Just give moogle hugs to posts and threads you like :jess:
Isn't it like fixing the polls if we upvote our own material?
It's frowned upon on Reddit and they're known for spontaneous witch-hunts. :(
You'd be surprised. There's some people very strongly against it. I've tried to push for a similar type of system, and it pretty much got shot down.
As for reddit, I don't really post much on it - I mostly just lurk and read. I think I've posted... three whole replies, and one whole link, on reddit in about the 3 years I've been browsing on and off xD
Witch hunts for upvoting? Sounds a bit silly to me. That's what people do with their videos, photos, social media in general, isn't it? Get people they know to like their stuff?
a wretched hive of scum and villainy
the content is marginally better than facebook
Different platforms used for different purposes, imo
I'm on it, but I don't post a lot. A good portion of the community sucks for various reasons, but if you take the time to subscribe to subreddits that interest you and get rid of a good majority of the default subs, you can actually have a decent time on the site.
I basically joined because I am a Game Grumps fan, and their subreddit is one of the better means to see all the fan stuff in one place. Again, the community can be way too much, but it's worth it because the crew is fairly active on that part of the internet.
Anyway, as time went on, I explored other subs and before I knew it, I customized my account to make it a great anti-boredom tool.
Reddit is good for subreddits that are basically just lists of helpful links (like to coupons or free Kindle books or game deals or so forth); I don't really participate in the community or submit anything though.
I do lurk around r/Frugal a lot, though, because they always post great deals and money-saving tips; like I'm getting $30 off my phone bill now thanks to some thing they posted about AT&T :shobon:
look you've created the impression that you've got connections to the diplomatic community of reddit
are you going to sit here and break my balls with screenshots or are you actually going to get me on the dog and bone to the smurfen ambassador :colbert:
trout son I gotta wear reading glasses to even see that screenshot

For your blindness
reddit is mostly awful and its sad how true the "redditor" stereotype seems to be.
having said that i read through some of the subreddits for things related to my degree, but i essentially only use it as a list of links to check out, and i rarely take the time to read comments because they're often awful and filled with lame arguments. it's the same with facebook and twitter, filter out all the crap and only pay attention to the stuff that is interesting.
i wouldnt miss it if it was gone, though, twitter is just as good for study-related link-hunting
What actually is Reddit? I've heard of it, but my social networking extends to Facebook, manning the Winchester Uni LGBT society's twitter and EoFF. What do you do on there?
I don't have an account but I check up on the DayZ Stand Alone updates on it from time to time.
Roddit Ambazzeder hear. Allll hour guiez ar jerks. upboats to da left
Reddit is super fickle, anything has the potential to succeed depending on the audience it attracts in it's early stages of voting. One of my most upvoted links was a picture of the playstation 2 saying "I have backwards compatiblity", because of teh next gen cerclejerk about backwards compatibly. Most of the content on the biggest sites is very diluted and appeals to the masses rather than a niche. I barely saw any content on the gaming subreddit for lightning returns, but 2-3 year later there is still always something about Skyrim.
I go on basically every day to check for news and to be entertained. I'll get my news and junk there for the most part, but everyone on the larger subreddits are really mean to new content unless there are cats/boobs in it. Smaller subreddits are generally more appreciative of content and discussion.
I don't reddit.
I do however go on Tickld and imgur.
reddit is gigantic and that scares me.
So I think the unanimous answer is no to Reddit and maybe to adopting their features! :jess:
I do not reddit. I have never been on the site
It just depends on the subreddits you're subscribed to really. Some of my favorite sfw subreddits:
The mystery of the soda.
Safety First!
SFW Porn Gifs
Yeah there are parts of reddit that are atrocities, but the ones actually dedicated to sharing information or just posting goofy stuff (instead of BitCoins and MRAs) can be pretty good. I know r/banishedmaps is a great place to find seeds for Banished for one minor example.
Yes, I use it fairly often, but I usually cringe pretty hard when people start talking about reddit...outside of reddit. Bonus if they mention narwhals or bacon.
The "average redditor" can be a pretty pitiful human being, too. "I was 2 smrt 4 high school so I was bored and didn't live up 2 my potential so now I'm here living with my mom/working at McDonalds/hating my life and it's the world's fault". They can be nice people at times, but the hivemind is out of control up their own asses.
And despite all of this I spend more time there than I'd really like to.
sometimes the medical related subreddits have medical horror stories which I like to read and then squirm about and then share with others against their will.
I think I have an account that I used to yell at and/or praise someone once but hell if I can remember it.
I have an account on Reddit, but I don't think I've ever signed in after making it. I can't remember. I've been on Reddit to see some AMA type stuff. For a period of a week, I liked to read interesting stories people had to say on the Glitch in the Matrix subreddit (I think this was called) and different scary story subreddits.
I hate reddit. That nested style is just really gross and results in far too many splintered conversations and upvote-bait.
Can someone please explain Reddit?
A site that gathers content from all over the internet/community contributions based on specific categories. Content is voted on by users who created accounts by upvoting or downvoting the links that are posted and/or the comments within those threads. Part of the benefit of being a user there is that you can subscribe to whatever subreddits interest you to make the experience unique to you.
Like all sites, there are many downsides, and the community can be awful, but it's really not that hard to avoid the negativity, in my opinion.
I primarily use reddit as a time wasting device, and it has a secondary use of providing information. Most of the information I get for the collectors editions stuff comes from reddit. The community is pretty awful, and content is really hard to promote on the bigger pages such as ""Gaming" or "Funny" with around 5,000,000 followers. Reddit is good for niche subreddits dedicated to individual topics. i for one check out /r/nintendo and /r/3DS to find out nintendo related news. /r/WiiU sucks though. I was recently voted 5 for 30 against for criticising a recent news post from nintendoStory is there was a group of guys called Mega 64 that were asked to promote the Smash Brothers event for nintendo that is coming up. Players can go to best buy and play smash brothers during E3. my criticism was that the video was pointless and only needed 30 seconds to tell me the news I needed, but it dragged on for 5 minutes. They didn't like criticism so used the downvote function to hide my comments. Free speech, ya'll
I use it all the time...but beware...you may get addicted.
I use it for the #topbantz on r/soccer and r/cricket, with some occasional r/unitedkingdom. Some people take it all (and the internet in general) far too seriously though and you end up with some pretty ridiculous arguments.
I love reddit. Once I unsubscribed from the douchey main subreddits and subscribed to more niche ones (such as specifically fallout or final fantasy VII or cityPorn). A lot of reddit on the main pages is wannabe 4chan trolls, but a lot of it is pretty clever and fun stuff. You really can mold it to what you want to see though. If you aren't a atheist don't subscribe to /r/atheism, but if you like foxes sub to /r/foxes. It's pretty individualistic.
I love AskReddit - it's the only part of the site I visit, and there is always something hilarious or touching, whether people are recounting their celebrity encounters, favourite jokes, cultural differences or stories of loss. It's probably the part that's most like EoFF.
I visit every now and again when a friend shares a link with me or if someone I like is doing an AMA.
