I never noticed. There were monster elves in latter titles?
There are vieras in later name. I assume they replaced the elves when they invented more races suited to their games.
I don't remember Elves appearing in any other FF games after FFI. Dwarves got a lot of love in IV, but even they don't appear too often. As Mr. S. said, the Viera seem to have taken the place of Elves & I think the Seeq replaced the Dwarves.
I'd actually like to see a modernistic/futuristic FF game that includes these races.
*imagines an elf rocking out to his iPod*
I find this surprisingly appealing.
They're certainly a bunch of douche-pricks in FFXI.
What I want to know is why everything in Elfland is so grossly overpriced?! Seriously, 4000 gil for a Mythril Blade?
So many youthful hours misspent grinding for a Mythril Blade, to take out those damn Ogres.
It was originally called a silver sword and silver is expensive
I'm not going to lie, the Silver/Mythril Sword kicks a lot of ass.
>>> After they killed Link in FF1 all the elves became evil..:luca:
There's the Dark Elf in FFIV but he seems to be the only Elf in that world, light or dark.
Here lies Link.
Elves are always pompous assholes. They deserve to be banned from the series.
They also just wouldn't fit in well with the more modern/futuristic look of more recent FF games.
It was because FF1 was a tribute to/rip-off of D&D. Hence the day-charge spell system, the elves and dwarves, the sahagin and mind-flayers, the Lich and Maralith, Tiamat and Bahamut, the monk class, the mythril and adamantite, etc.
I could've sworn it was only changed to silver for the western releases.
Back then D&D was owned by TSR but I don't know how they felt about such things.
If the sing they would be called ELVIS HAHAHAHHAHA
Okay seriously, I didn't really notice this until now. My guess is that whoever decided to draw from RPG tropes either didn't care a lot for Elves or simply didn't know enough about them to incorporate them in the FF games properly.
Actually Elves being assholes is more true to their roots than the way Tolkien and most fantasy portray them. Elves aren't happy, singing, tree-huggers. Elves are the Fair Folk. They are invincible, immortal, magical beings on par with demigods. The word Eldritch (Used to describe Cthulhu and other disturbing monsters) actually means Elven. Elves aren't assholes, they're amoral spirits that prey upon all things in their forests, including humans.
