The Eyes on Final Fantasy Pronunciation Challenge

Welcome, fellow members, to the Eyes on Final Fantasy Pronunciation Challenge! After all of the excellent voiced speeches from the Ciddies this past weekend, we thought this would be an excellent time for this event to take place.

This challenge is to pronounce a list of popular, tricky, or controversial words in the Final Fantasy verse from games I-IX (save for a specially featured name). We're curious about how your pronounce all of these words that are so familiar to us, whether in accent or pronunciation style. For some of these words there's no right or wrong way to say them, for others, welp! :shobon: If you don't know what a pronunciation challenge is, have a quick look through a YouTube search to help educate you.

The list may appear a bit lengthy but I can promise that when you're speeding through them in a recording, it will go quick like a bunny. If you feel so inclined, you may skip over some words or even add some you'd especially like to say at the end of the list! You are welcome to submit either an audio or video recording of your entry.

Please take part and join in this fun challenge! There is no prize or "best pronunciation" award, but we'll be compiling everyone's entries into a fun video (or maybe a couple!) as content our YouTube channel!

This challenge will stay open for one week, so be sure to submit your recordings in quick!

Quetzalcoatl is not the spelling of the GF in VIII and I copied all of these names from another source. I have no idea of the spelling of Hiryuu or Hiyruu or what have you!

You are welcome to pronounce them with the spelling errors or without.

Oh, right. The FF Wikia page is for Quetzalcoatl but the spelling in the FFVIII entry has the other spelling. Fair enough :ffviwave: I pronounced them as I expect they should be based on my searching of the wikia page :ffvilaugh:

Is Queza/Quetza used in other games? I really have not the slightest idea.

I found a little sad old page that looked as if it were leftover from the Angelfire/Geocities days with a bunch of names listed for everything and copy/pastad xD The list was actually like four times longer originally and I wasn't fully paying attention on spelling xD

According to the FF Wikia the name is used in like three other games, plus its inclusion as a XIV server and so on. I guess it was just misspelled in the game back in the dodgy translation days. Or the character limit days. Either or.

EDIT: still six minutes on this upload. Gonna listen to Rap God by Eminem in the mean time.

Someone here very recently said, I think, (Unne?) that it was the character limit in the names field for GFs. The more you know!

I always pronounced 'quetzalcoatl' like 'quaetscafkjgrjrkjgrkegjrekolllll'

Your Leviathan sounded like a very Angry Liam Neeson. Reminds me of him in one of the greatest movie scenes of all time.

EDIT: When he says "TAKE THE F***ING ELEPHANT!" is what it specifically reminded me of.

Also, now I am wishing I made a video, but I already did the vocaroo so it's too late! Though I am not nearly as good looking so it's probably for the best!

Bahamut is a tricky one. They say it differently in 12 than in every other FF. Actually I think the only other times summons are mentioned by name is in 13... And Bahamut isn't even a summon in 12.

Half of the words in Final Fantasy are based on Norse mythology (Norse mythology origins covers Sweden as well as Norway, amongst others), obviously.

That and Rantz being amazing in general.
