EoFF NFL Fantasy Football

It's that time again, where we get together to yell at players every Sunday for not catching enough touchdowns. Actually I'm late to setting up the league this year, but we still have 6 or so weeks to get a league together. Plenty of time!

If you were in the league last year, you should have automatically been given an invite. If not, just let me know. And for newcomers: our league can have 14 players, and we had 12 last year, so even if everyone signs up again (which does not always happen), we still have 2 more spots. So if you're at at all interested in the NFL and want to try out fantasy, feel free to have a go. We only ask that you check your team roster at least once every week for injuries/bye weeks, so it's not that much of a time investment. EoFF's league is free through Yahoo, so all you need is a Yahoo account to register and play.

I've tentatively set the draft time for Saturday, August 30th at 3 PM EST, though that's subject to change. Please immediately let me know here or in the league chat what times do and don't work for you. If you don't let me know promptly, you lose the right to complain a week before draft day. :p

For example: Saturday, August 23rd does not work for me, though I'm available pretty much every other weekend in the afternoon EST.

It's just for fun and bragging rights; there's no sign up fee or other money involved.

Last year Jiro, in his first year with the league, stormed over everyone with the ridiculous Jamaal Charles/Jimmy Graham combo (somehow he managed to snag both of those in a 12-team league).

You let an Aussie win? Just give me the championship now & save everyone's time.

Megatron was a big let down for me last year. Luckily Ashlon Jeffrey was great and of course Peyton had his year. but, he couldn't do it for me at the end :(

For any newbies who want to join, send me a PM with an email address to send the invite to. This is on a first-come, first-serve basis. Once the spots are tentatively full, I'll wait 2 weeks to give time for any of last year's participants to sign up. If there are still any spaces left after that (which often happens), I'll send out the rest of the invites, so don't be discouraged if you don't get an invite right away.

This doesn't sound anything like real football...

can you post a link? I've got a few friends that play, but I haven't tried it. I love the Falcons! they are a heart breaking team some times, but you've got to love them!

Oh, I couldn't find the original invitation the past few through all the email I've been getting in my Yahoo!mail, so I'm glad you sent it again. I'm now joined. :D

I just saw someone got Forte #2 overall, Manning pick #36 I think and then gronk in the 3rd. I'd take that. Although my plan is to draft as many players from teams I hate in hopes their teams will then fail irl.

I hope I pick early so I can get Rodgers and he can break his neck or something. I don't know how Manning survived last year and did as well as he did. Usually my QB is destined to throw a career number of picks or be killed.

I invited VorpalCyberWolf, so assuming he joins, we'll have our 14 teams. I'll try to remember to pick a draft order at least 2 weeks in advance of the draft date (possibly as soon as this next weekend).

It would be awesome to know our draft pick order prior to drafting. The last couple leagues I've been in, we didn't get a draft order until moments before actually drafting. It took half the strategy of drafting and threw it out the window.

Are we doing a linear draft or a snake draft?

We usually know a week or two before hand. I think it's just normal draft order.

Part of my annual ritual since I've been the commissioner is determining the draft order a couple of weeks in advance by having my sister pick names out of a hat. I think I used a random number generator one year and that was boring, so I've made the hat-drawing a tradition. Regardless, I try to have the order set at least a week or so beforehand.

And the draft order has arrived. It's a little late because Jojo is visiting me and so I was distracted, and so had her pick the teams out of a hat this year. Which was a mistake on my part because she hates me. She is making me tell you all that she apologizes for messing up and not picking me last, though I'm still pretty late in.

I find it funny that you guys think a 14 team league is rough. The other league I belong to usually has 20 teams, & the guy who runs it won't go under 16. A 14 team league sounds like a dream.

Anything over 14 teams is basically a flip of a coin.

20! Holy cow. I play in a 10 and have played in a 12. 14 seems like a lot of teams to me. I can't imagine being in a 20 team league.

I removed the flex position, as we are back to 14 teams, which is already pretty deep. The draft is 1 PM EST on the 31st, because that seemed to be the consensus. I'll also add a couple of the quirky defensive stats everyone seemed to like.

4th down stops: 2 points (basically a forced turnover, and a rarity anyway)
Tackles for loss: 0.25 points
Three-and-outs forced: 0.5 points

Defensive yards allowed:
Negative: 12 points
0-99: 6 points
100-199: 4 points
200-299: 2 points
300-399: 0 points
400-499: -2 points
500+: -4 points

I tried to make it so good defenses get a little boost, without going crazy. I might actually turn down tackles-for-loss to 0.2.

Awesome, thanks. I agree the league's probably deep enough without the extra spot. Those bonuses look pretty well-balanced to me - interesting to see how it works out!

I've always been tempted to do a crazy 20-team league, but the thought of some of the guys who'd be starting at RB2 is just too terrifying.

I like the bonuses. I need to remember to make the draft since I'll be alone with the kids that day. Or maybe I'll just autodraft since I suck at NFL drafts.

So my stoned ass spaced out that tomorrow is the draft. I'm gonna try a jump on for the first few rounds after I drop my gf off at work. Hopefully I'll be able to find some wifi.

I have a couple of leagues, so I'm hoping to try out sleepers in each one.

sweet thought the drat was till 3pm est or was to begin with. Guess I rushed to find wifi and got lost for nothing. My team is okay I suppose.

Overall, I think we have a good balanced league with no team really head and shouders above or below. Those yahoo post draft assessments are such crap. Fun to read until you look at the advice they give you. Really, Jeremy Kerley of the Jets is a better option than Sanders on the Broncos because he's their de facto 2nd receiver? Sam Bradford is a better option than anyone?

Should be a fun season!

Oh man. I left Brandin Cooks on my bench to see how he would really do. Shouldn't have done that. And Martellus Bennett. Points on the bench is awesome.

I left 87 points on the bench in my other league. Making the good decisions already.

The crappiness of my team is comical at this point. I feel bad for the poor sucker who ends up giving me my one win due to some fluke.

Well, my team is continuing to make perform poorly again this week. Tony Romo managed to play decently, but he's on the bench due to his poor performances. I hope Geno plays well on MNF, otherwise it'll be loss number two.

Well, I'm back in my proper spot :)

I now have one more win than the Oakland Raiders.

I now have 1 more win than Yahoo projected to me to have for the entire season. Projected to finish 2-12, currently 3-1.

I think our records have been swapped. Kindly return them to their proper place.

So just by looking at current line ups, I'd say we should go back to the 12 team league next year. Too many people with players that are out being in the starting lines ups, saw a straight up empty slot. People are struggling to get a 3rd WR or 2nd RB that can put up more than 4 points a game.

I love this, the more marginal players are required, the better my odds are. I love sifting through bad players.

While I agree with that, I prefer a league with less teams and expanded rosters. It definitely is fun to scrape the bottom of the barrell for that 4th WR.

I'm not having any trouble with it, I start looking at the next matchup as soon as sunday games start. I'm just seeing a lot more huge blowouts every week and as I said players that are out are being used and straight up empty slots.

Unfortunately there's not much that can be done about inactive managers except to not invite them back next year. I try to send at least one email reminder during the season if I notice consistent absences, but if they don't respond to that, then I just make a mental note to delete them from next year's invites. Feel free to let me know privately if there's someone that should be prodded (or do so yourself via PM), as I don't always check everyone's matchups every week like I used to.

I think the manager of the Oakland Enforces should be booted. He had two injured players in his lineup two weeks in a row.

Inactive managers are the worst, yeah. Especially when it's late in the year and the playoff race is on, and one team faces another good team and the other faces a guy with 3 IR players in the lineup.

Damn, i wish i joined EoFF before the season started so i could be in your league. I've never played Fantasy Football but i've wanted to for a few yrs.

Would just like to say I defeat the #1 team without a QB.
