So when do you choose to fight the coolest GF in the game?
Immediately! I'm pretty sure I do that every single time I play the game!
Yep right after I get the lamp, he's easiest that way and extra GF is always good.
The first time was at Balamb during Disc 2 when the city was being held by Galbadia soldiers. I had forgotten all about the magic lamp up to that point and was curious to see what it did. After that, I used it immediately to get Diablo sooner. After that I never cared enough to get him. He was always the weakest of my GFs when I used him.
If I recall there is a strategy to killing him low leveled that I followed. so I killed him early.
He is kind of rad.
Right away
Right away.
Right away.
Immediately. "Here's a magic lamp. You want to rub it?" "You bet I do!" Who could say no to that?
Yep, straight away. I remember having some long fights with the bastard in a darkened room.
Yeah pretty much straight away. Diablos is one cool dude
As soon as possible, yeah.
As soon as possible.
Although it does sound fun to fight him with the Laguna trio. Might do that next playthrough.

That's a clip of Laguna fighting Diablos. I wait until my next laguna mission to use the lamp as well.
you also get time/space magic refinement from him, where you can make as many hastes and slows and stops and demis and quakes triples and doubles as you want, for junctioning purposes.
He is a great utility GF. I mean dang, look at all this candy. He's also one of the first GFs you get that knows ability x3, and he's also one of the only two GFs that can natively learn HP+80%, the other being Brothers (so I guess it is technically three GFs :|). ST-Mag-ref is also very good, because it lets you create Meltdown out of Mystery Fluids, which you can get through Triple Triad even before leaving Balamb island.
Mystery Fluids... ewwwwwwwwwwwwww!
come here and i'll give you some of my mystery fluid :3
My first gameplay, I stumbled on to him at the dream world where Laguna is in Deling City.
But after that, you just have to fight him immediately so you can get Enc-None as soon as possible.
The game that is already super easy, gets twice as more easy because no random battles and you don't level up, making every enemy so pitifully low in stats.
It took me forever to realize that you could just draw his own Demi spells and use them on him, and then use your Limit Breaks after he'd cast Demi/Gravija on you. I got killed by Diablos a buncha times.
I don't always fight Diablo, but when I do it's on Torment VI.
As soon as Im confident I can draw atleast 100 demi's out of him.
Right away, it's one of my first opportunities to abuse the hell out of Card Mod for magic.
Card Mod: Diablos -> 100 Black Holes
Time/Space Mod: 1 Black Hole -> 20? Demi spells
That's more Demi than I'll ever need for the rest of the game and Demi offers a better stat increase than most spells at this point in the game, so unless I'm really going out of my way with the Triple Triad grind this is my first opportunity for a major stat increase.
EDIT:
Also, why does he use Curaga on you when you use Demi? Weird.
Since the enemies level up with you, it might be best to get him out of the way. I've fought him at various times throughout my playthroughs, but I think the strategy is the same each time: Use his own demi against him and manipulate Selphie's limit break.
First time I ever fight him(many many years ago) I was at the missile base. I don't know what I was doing wrong, but I could never beat him. Eventually started a new game and beat him asap lol
