for like the first time in this contest i have played a healthy amount of both games.
I like X but i have to go with VI. its my 3rd favourite however my top 6 FF games are pretty close ( or atleast 6-3) so i really do not care too much who wins ( though we all know it is X)
lets just hope no IP scandal happens again.

My vote here goes to FFX. I appreciate that FFVI is a good game. However, I didn't complete it. I got up to (SPOILER)the world of ruin, and once I'd lost my party members I didn't really have any drive to go and find them . I have no idea how the game ends.
On the other hand I couldn't put FFX down. It was the first FF game on PS2, and I was amazed by the graphics. Plus it was the first game to feature voice acting, which was a huge step for the series. Despite some dodgy VA it managed to pull it off quite well, I thought. The battle system was good and being able to switch characters mid battle was great. Besides that there's Blitzball which is one of the best FF mini games ever :)

Gotta go FFX tho. It was such a landmark game in the series, when I think of the PS2, I think of FFX. They're basically synonymous.
Voted VI. I've ranted about this enough times but the World of Ruin was a fantastic open ended piece of gameplay.
VI is very good, but I voted for X on the basis that I found it to be much more fun to play.

Game play wise i prefer X. but, I HATE HATE HATE the characters in X and there were a few in VI I could dig. I also HATED X's story. Everything that had to do with writing in X just made me want to throw my PS2 out the window and was probably a HUGE factor in me shifting back to PC play. Everything Square made around that time is horrible imo so I went back to Diablo 2 and Counter Strike. From FFVII to X was the golden age of consoles in my life.
I feel the same about FFVI as I do FFIX. They're my go-to recommendations for people trying FF out for the first time because they're both great games that perfectly capture all the things that come to mind when I think of what a Final Fantasy game is, but I don't find myself playing them over and over again like my own favorites. Besides FFXIV which is an MMO, I've put more hours into FFX than any other single player Final Fantasy :spin:

But FFX's battle system and storyline is so much more enjoyable.
FF8 gives FF6 a run for it's money before losing, FF10-2 gives FF9 a solid run for it's money before losing.
Then FF6 goes on to never once have the lead or put up a real threat to FF10. :eyebrow:
None of these are going the way I expected. I thought it was going to be interesting to see something like FF9 vs. FF6. :shrug:

When I first devised this event a lot of people thought the finalists would be VI vs. VII. Looks like I was right to assume that it wouldn't go that way on EoFF! (although my money is still on VII as a finalist) (for now anyway)
This side of the bracket was really stacked with 6, 8, 9 and 10 so it's naturally where all the action happened. It's a shame 10-2 didn't win - just imagine 10 vs 10-2! 9 vs 10 is going to be a great fight all the same though.
Wish we could've seen 7 take on 6, 8 or 9, that would've gotten ugly.

For X vs. IX I predict IX, mostly because I think votes from the rather vocal anti-X squad will tip IX over the edge.
IX vs. VII will be super fun to watch. I am predicting a VII win but really anything could happen.
I don't know that 6 v 7 would be that interesting anyway, it has already been done to death a hundred other times.

Not surprised at all, I think the X haters seem more populous than they are by virtue of how loudly they voice their disdain. FFVI certainly has its fans but the overall series fanbase is much larger than it was back when it released and VI just doesn't stand out enough over the other retro titles for *most* of those who play it years after its original launch. Meanwhile, FFX is one of the most revered video games of all time, period. How it fares against IX or another high-profile entry will say a lot about our little pocket of the fandom.
