I feel like most people don't have these anymore. I don't.
Nope.
Yes.
I don't, but my mother does, and it's always going off. I've trained myself not to answer it because it is never for me, and usually for her.
There's no point having a landline these days. It's just a needless extra expense.
It's cheaper and easier to just have a mobile phone.
Even my parents dropped their landline like ten years ago haha. I think my grandparents still have one?
Yes, it comes as part of the Virgin Media bundle that I've got. TV, Broadband and Landline.
It's rarely used, though, unless there are numbers that are needed to be called which are more expensive to call on mobile.
Even my dad doesn't have one anymore.
No, I've ditched mine long ago. It's not logical in today's world.
Ha! Smart phone plan. I wasn't really thinking of those, to be honest. My mobile phone plan is pay-as-you-go, straight up phone and text, no internet or data.
I don't use my phone much, so that's all I need.
I've only paid £4 in phone bills since January, so for me it would be a LOT more expensive to have a landline. :spin:
Nope. Even my 50+ year old parents threw their landline out over 5 years ago.
We kept ours plugged in because it was the easiest way for me to call Night Fury while she wasn't able to work over here. I hate the damn thing though, the only time it rings is when there's a telemarketer.
Yeah we got it fitted in Aus so my Mum could call. She never did. Charming of her.
Over here we have one because it's part of the package.
I only communicate exclusively by carrier pigeon. Even these posts are typed by a well trained bird that flies off far away to a random computer that is exclusively connected to sites that I use.
No. I have a pay-as-you go, unlimited texting and 250 minutes which is more than I use. I pretty much only call my mom, but I text a lot so there you go
The only reason to have a landline phone is so you can have a sweet 80's style hamburger phone. Or the one that's a pair of lips. Or the one that has a clear case with all the neon colored bits inside. Or the Garfield phone.
You get the idea.
cellphones seem so lacking now
My dad has zero cell phone reception on his farm. Hell they just got upgraded from 56k like 3 years ago and the DSL they can get might as well be 56k. Not everyone lives where cell phones and internet are easily accessible...
Not for a while now. I think my dad got ours pulled because he was tired of advertisers always calling.
You can opt out of those here. It actually works too. Of course, if you don't, they'd call you on your cell anyway
My step dad would just always do this when they called
"Hi, what time do you eat dinner? Why? Because you guys call me every night while I'm having dinner. I'll call you back when you're in the middle of yours."
Yes.
Jay and I are so funny with it. If one of us is out and we know the other is home, we'll call the house phone to get in touch with the other person so that we can make use of it. :D
Landline
Vermont as I recalled had pretty troutty cellphone reception. It's basically a third world country. I much rather having my mobile phone working in every single place possible including places it shouldn't like under water and in a subway. Thanks Verizon ig. The last time I had a working landline was 2010 I believe and it used it as my "office number" for my freelance gigs.
Yep. It's great for international calls in particular, but I use it for pretty much all the phonecalls I make from my flat.
International calls? Don't you have skype?
Skype is okay, but it's not as good as a landline. Much better quality and you can roam easily around your flat. I know there is Skype for phone, but as with the PC version, it's poor quality and there's something about having a touchscreen pressed against the side of your face that isn't pleasant when compared to a plastic phone. The latter doesn't stick so much.
The WiiU video chat actually has pretty good audio quality. That's what starlet and I use :3
FaceTime is also amazing if you both have iPhones, but I guess that most people don't.
I have a land line for a number of reasons, I have a mobile with 500 minutes but for the last seven days my network has been having problems so thank god I had my land line otherwise I wouldn't have been able to call anyone. I also like to have a landline so I can call 111 for medical advice (which because of my medical condition I use fairly often) and my Mum doesn't have a mobile so when I'm out I can call home and check she is ok (as she also has medical problems). Lastly its a part of my Virgin bundle and my Mum uses it to call her friends all the time.
