Just an update btw.

How do you define your sexual and/or romantic orientation?

If I had to pick a term, I'd be (mostly) Aromantic Pansexual but I despise using those terms in a casual conversation so I just say I'm bisexual and not super interested in dating. I tend to form platonic relationships with sexual overtones in stead of romantic ones and gender isn't a factor for me. I appreciate aesthetic looks in a person and it will likely increase my initial sexual interest in a person but it's not a given for me to be attracted to them.

Biromantic Asexual. Basically couldn't care less about sex, but is interested in having romantic ( non-sexual) relationships with a man or a woman.

Bi-curious is how I define it because I have no real interest in men romantically. I just find them kind of sexy on occasion.

I would only ever be in a relationship with a woman, however.

And gender and that kind of stuff confuses me so I won't get into that.

I never knew that's what that term meant before I was curious about what the difference between it and bisexual was.

I'm not really attracted to people because they're transgender or in spite of that or anything. The thing with me is that I just kind of... don't care about gender. It doesn't factor in for me. I either have feelings for someone or I don't, and peepees and hoohas don't really change or affect that at all

Demisexual heteroromantic, I guess? I'm basically only attracted both romantically and sexually to one person, and for her I really don't think it would matter if she were a guy instead. I usually don't like to complicate stuff, so I basically normally say that I'm straight because effectively it's the same deal. I just identify as demi if you really wanna go into detail :monster:

When it comes to gender identity, I'm cis, even if I like to challenge a lot of gender norms rather than conform. But I still feel that I belong to the sex I was born as.

Honestly I don't feel like my sexual orientation/lack thereof is a big enough part of my life for me to give it a special definition; I tell people I'm straight because I'm a girl marrying a guy anyway, that's pretty straight

technically I prob qualify as asexual because I don't like/care about sex (depending on the day) but I mean, I feel like it's not a big enough deal for me to make it a special thing (if that makes sense)

I know for other people it's a big part of their identity and I'm not taking that away from them, but for me, I just don't care much

I've never felt a strong (or even moderate) sexual or romantic attraction to anyone but men, so I think it's safe to say that I'm gay.

This is basically me, only I'm demisexual biromantic. In other words, I'm only attracted to one person, and that's Mr. Carny. I mean, I tend to state 'bisexual' generally, just because saying demisexual biromantic then means you have to explain what that is, so.

Its like with celebrity crushes. Mr. Carny would go 'oh yeah, Chris Hemsworth is hot' and while I can appreciate that he is physically attractive, it doesn't really do anything for me sexually or romantically. And even if it did, it would only be on a surface level.

I'll sometimes (well, fairly often, really) point out hot guys - both in TV and film and in real life - and Formy will say something like, "I suppose they're quite attractive." It can make it hard to gossip, sometimes. :lol:

Also, would you stop going on about Chris Hemsworth, already? :p He is far from the only male celebrity I find sexually attractive.

Demisexuality is on the asexuality spectrum between allosexual and asexual, I'm aware of that, but when people say heterosexual/homosexual/bisexual, usually it's considered obvious that they're allosexual. That's why, in a way, I find demisexuality to be a bigger part of my identity that heterosexuality, really. And I've said it before - I really don't think I'd be bothered if my wife was a different gender, but I don't think that alone makes me bi or pan because I fell in love with her as a woman and really cannot tell if that would happen if she wasn't a cis woman.

Also, if I state that I'm demisexual heteroromantic that's enough since demisexuals need to be romantically attracted (and very close, at that) to someone to feel sexual attraction, in simple terms.

I'm bi, probably technically pan, but nowadays there are that many 'sexuals' that it's just easier to say bi. Sexuality is fluid though and I fully believe that you can have stages in life of feeling 100% straight or 100% gay and then one day you're just like 60/40 or something. I've kissed a lot of girls - and not in the 'omg all girls kiss girls lel' way. It was smurfing hot 10/10 would do again and again.

Not to belittle how anyone defines their sexual orientation (go with whatever is comfortable), but with all the different weird sounding definitions going round it legit feels like a parody thread. I feel like it could be a sketch.

As for me I'm a straight, white male age 18-49, everyone listens to me, no matter how dumb my suggestions are.

I never understand what most these terms mean and when I look them up I forget them almost immediately. I remember seeing some thread here where someone said they were...something or other... and I was like 'wow I didn't know she was that' but then I looked it up and it was just some newage scientific way of saying heterosexual.

With the exception of a few traits in both sexes that really rev my engine when combined, I'm generally not interested in sex until I have feelings for someone.

Its also pretty hard for me to catch feelings. I haven't had recognizable, non-fleeting feelings for anyone for a few years now.

But when I do start to have feelings it's almost exclusively towards men.

I just have a very low sexual appetite.

Which has generally meant I make partners really unhappy.

So for anyone not in the know, here's a helpful little guide on sexualities. Note that this is not just something some tumblrinas came up with because they're bored - this is stuff that's actually been researched heavily to help better understand our world. The field of gender and sexuality is a new one, but there's already a lot of empirical data, and it's really fascinating. (My MA seminar is actually about gender and sexuality is language, so yes, there's a whole subset of linguistics called sexual linguistics, or sexlinguistics)

So, when talking about sexuality, there's two axes. The first pertains to sexual drive and desire, and though it's a fluid scale, we can distinguish three main orientations.

-allosexual - the vast majority of people are this, with sex being a big part of their lives, their sex drives being pretty high, and then being attracted to people sexually just like that :monster:

-asexual - this one's actually hard to really describe, as it's more complex than it may seem at first, but in general these are people who experience little to no sexual drive or attraction; they can have sex or even masturbate, but the joy from that isn't really there;

-demisexual - halfway between allosexual and asexual, demisexuals aren't really attracted to anybody unless they form a really strong bond with them before. Functionally, that really makes them no different from allosexuals, but the sex drive is lower (which explains why I could never wrap my head around how all those people around me kept being so annoyingly horny XD)

And then there's the preference scale.

On one end you have heterosexuals, who are attracted to a gender opposite their own.

On the other you have homosexuals, who are attracted to their own gender.

Bisexuals are attracted to two genders.

Polysexuals are attracted to a few genders (gender and sex are two different things, so there's more genders than simply male or female).

Pansexuals can be attracted to anyone regardless of gender.

A similar scale is used for romantic orientation, which can be a seperate thing from sexual.

Really, it's not hard to educate yourself. If you don't dismiss it and just learn it, you can make someone's day by simply validating their existence and identity :)

Okay imma try to explain this.

I am exclusive to my husband, and he is the only person who revs my engine. We are sexually exclusive to each other.

As a whole I find women more sexually attractive than men, but due to my strong instinct for reproduction, I have only ever been in relationships with men. If for some reason my marriage ends or something happens to him (god forbid), I would not be opposed to dating women, if I found the right person.

I dunno, my husband and I pretty much say "I'm bisexually minded living a straight lifestyle" xD And I love sex, so.

I recently had a conversation where I was asked, "Doesn't that mean you're straight now?" They had difficulty wrapping their head around the fact that just because I chose a partner, that doesn't mean I chose a gender, or my sexuality changed.

Wow everyone is so diverse! I'm just boring old hetero, although maybe I'm also demisexual? I haven't been interested in anyone other than my boyfriend and it's been almost 6 years now, so I guess it's safe to say I am..? I'm learning so many new terms today xD
