I attack using 80 MAGD
You fool! You can't hurt Ultros with MAGD! I have 110, you lose 30 HP! Gwwaaaaaa! :ultros:
I use my ability ACID RAIN!
WHAT DOES ACID RAIN DO
THATS WHAT I GET FOR PLAYING BY THE RULES AND NOT LOOKING AT YOUR CHARACTER SHEET
CHAOS TAKE ME
Ultros takes -5 stat points from his opponents stats and a consecutive 5 points for each round played (-5 points first round, -10 second round, -15 third round)
Make your move! But you're not as strong as before, uee hee hee~ :ultros:
Hmph
Drain - Ultros's STR is reduced by 25%
Ooh, ouch!
Very well, I will attack with 110 DEF! Hyaaaaaagh!
OK, just to make sure I know how Acid Rain works
By my logic, since Ultros's attack took place in the last turn, my defensive stats ar -5
So I have 55 DEF, meaning I'm now at 115 HP.
So now I want to attack using my STR stat, but since that's a new turn, that means my STR is 90, correct?
Acid Rain's damage is done at the end of that round. So far he's taken -15 from your stats, you can attack with STR and after that ACID rain will drop your stats a further 5 points.
Okay. So I attack Ultros with 85 STR then.
Oh no! My strength was reduced by 25% from 40 to 30 thanks to Drain, so I have been hit for a scary 55 HP, leaving me with 145 HP!
I will attack with my 90 SPD! HIAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH! :ultros:
Because of Acid Rain my SPD has dropped to 80, so I get 10 damage, leaving me with 105 HP
Acid Rain is seriously broken, you guys
I don't think we have any items yet, so I really can't do anything that won't actively harm me, so I guess I hate to attack using 40 DEF
No it isn't sssh! We're on the same team Bally! :ultros:
We'll look into it, it does create an extreme weakness for Ultros as I remember though. Which I was pretty sure balanced it in our test fights.
EDIT: It lowers his MAG to 30 xD
It depends when you use it I guess. The earlier, the better.
And then of course the enemy could figure out what my depleted stat is and rush to attack with that first. I'm not gonna get away with it in any more practice battles now xD
Also I wouldn't like to see what happens if you used Acid Rain on a character with stats similar to, say, Cloud of Darkness. That one hit (-90 HP from MAG) could very easily be enough to win a game with.
I think in general this is a good place to discuss strategies. I really need to try and battle characters who have little speed or strength, and MAGD would be nice as well, since then I could start the battle with DEMI, reducing my MAGD but they couldn't hurt me much anymore, but I could lower either STR or SPD to hit for massive damage.
But idk, I think this will all work out pretty differently when items come into play. THat's what I'm most worried about
Feel free to practice with items.
Hi-Potions restore 20 HP, and the Stat+ items add 20 to the chosen stat, so be sure to test how your character fares in battles that use those items.
You wanna do over, Ultros? You pretty much wrecked me in that one, so we can concede that you won. Let's try with items this time, and why don't you start?
Let's duel tomorrow! Also we could practice using stats from other characters so we know how we fare in different match ups.
Tomorrow the Thunderdomes will open for friendly matches against Heroes.... for level ups.
When you say "friendly"... ;)
Keep those tentacles to yourself
NO
Okay Round 2!
Naturally I start with ACID RAIN :ultros:
Hmph. You've exposed yourself.
I use Demi to reduce your STR by 25%
I also expose an attack with 110 MAGD baby :ultros:
I receive 55 damage, so I'm left with 145 HP.
I attack with 95 STR
Oof! Combined with Demi I have 30 HP, so that hit for 65 damage! 135 HP remaining for poor Uncle Ulty!
I will attack with 110 DEF next!
With 50 DEF, I get hit with 60 damage, leaving me at 85 HP.
I use a Chocobo Feather to increase my SPD by 40.
Yeah well I use one too! :D
...this is something of a flaw in practice battles.
Scratch that, I'll use a hi-potion.
Well then, I attack using 125 SPD
You're meant to announce what items you both have equipped BEFORE you start fighting, dopes.
Well, yeah, okay, we'll do that when real battles happen, but since this is a sparring round I was thinking we could just try out how our items work with no limitations :ohdear:
Well sure, you can if you'd like. It's a bit unfair to spring an item on an opponent without them knowing you had it is all. But I'm not going to reprimand anyone for practicing however they want to practice.
Basically, in actual thunderdome it will look like this
CAIUS
- Hi potion
- Chocobo Feather
- Spider's Silk
Ability - Demi
RINOA
- Hi potion
- Hero Drink
- Poison Barb
Ability - Angelo (Not her ability :p)
With the SPD attack my HP is reduced to 120!
...all I have left is my 30 MAG to attack with xD
I currently have 40 MAG, so you lose 10 HP.
So we went through all the stats now, right? Which means that you win with 110 HP, and I'm left with 85 HP
:jess:
I've learned that I should use items early, to stall for more time to get the enemy's stats down.
Yeah, that's definitely the strategy for you. Always use Acid Rain early.
Unless the enemy has a high MAG stat
If the enemy has a high MAG stat I'm screwed. They'll probably start with that stat, rendering Acid Rain unuseable. I need to avoid anyone with that! Though if they don't use it first, after 4 turns the loss to MAG evens itself out.
The game ends after 4 stats have been played. You don't go through all 5 :)
Oh.
Everyone has 400 points divvied up between 5 stats, so if a game simply went "stat, stat, stat, stat, stat' the outcome would always be a draw. So yeah, a game ends after 4 to avoid that.
If you guys want to have another practice battle let me know and maybe I'll moderate it so you guys get an idea of what it will look like in an actual game. I told Bubba I'd do this for his next match as well.
Good to see you guys starting to strategise though!
But just to be clear - that only pertains to dealing HP damage, correct? If I use Demi to lower an opponent's stat, that doesn;t count as using a stat, right?
Correct. Using Demi is counted as an ability turn. A stat turn is when you use a stat to attack.
So it's worthwhile using your abilities early. As long as some point you use your strong stats so you don't miss out.
Also, it's worth using recovery items as soon as you lose health. I don' t know.
It probably depends on your ability. Mine and Ultros' seem to be designed to use early.
