Pretty fun article discussing which classic game was better. Which side of the fence do you fall on?
FFVII. It's not my favorite FF, but I still think it's less overhyped than OoT. The latter was fine, but to be called the best game of all time? Please. Even within the series, every 3D Zelda after it was better (though the 2D ones are still better, IMO) and OoT love is one of the best examples of nostalgia goggles that I know.
From an objective standpoint? FFVII. From a personal standpoint? Ocarina of Time.
I personally prefer Ocarina of Time. It's my favorite game in The Legend of Zelda series. Final Fantasy VII is a great game, but I think it's overrated.
I never heard people losing their mind over wanting a super realistic looking remake of Ocarina of Time.
It deserves being called the best game of all time on some lists. But I say it is not even close. And in my opinion it is not even close to being the best Zelda.
Just played Ocarina of Time again about a month ago. Definitely Ocarina of Time. I don't even really like VII that much. It's just okay to me.
Both are really deserving of their reputation but Adult Link is super hot so I'm pickin that.
Neither is even the best game in their franchise, but Ocarina is a clearly superior game.
FFVII, but only just. i like them both pretty good, but i think they are both my 6th fav of each franchise
Tsk. Zelda. The deciding factor for me was the battle system. Random battles on FFVII used to annoy me when I could barely walk 2 steps.
I get peoples comments about it not necessarily being the greatest of the Zelda titles but it is my personal favourite and no#1
I just.. love that game so much :jess: its a lot of happy memories! so it will always be my favourite.
Final Fantasy VII. Not really a fan of OOT.
Ocarina of Time. It was innovative as hell, and has some of the best dungeon design in the series. It's one of the highest rated games of all time for good reason.
They are both overrated and prompt up by some of the more obnoxious fandoms in the gaming world. I'd say take a third option...
Final Fantasy VII, easily.
I am just playing Ocarina of Time and it has such horribly clunky controls. It does not really help raising its position on my list.
A Link to The Past is where it is at for me when it comes to Zelda games.
In both cases, 7 vs. OoT and 6 vs. ALttP, I prefer the FF entries to the Zelda entries, but it isn't like I don't think highly of the Zelda titles as well. Regarding 7 and OoT, I found Materia customization and combinations more interesting than anything OoT had to offer, and the same goes for playing around with various character skills and equipment setups in 6 vs. anything in ALttP. All things considered though, I'm not sure how good a comparison I can make between the titles, seeing how different the experiences they deliver are, and there are certainly times I'm more in a Zelda mood than a Final Fantasy mood.
Not really sure how you can compare them when Zelda games fall far heavier into the action-adventure genre than they do RPG.
Both are two of my favourite games of all time, for vastly different reasons to the other.
FFVII I enjoyed the story that made me think about video games in a way I hadn't before, the spectacle and the customisation. In terms of exploration though, the world didn't feel all that cohesive.
OoT I enjoyed the adventure, the quintessential fantasy story, the puzzles and that nearly all the side-quests, side-puzzles etc resulted in something rewarding - particularly the Metroid style adventure, where everytime you got a new item you could (usually) go back to an old area and discover something new.
This one slipped by me when it was originally posted....hmmmmm (drums fingers)
So.....
Seriously?
A Sony console game is being put up against something released on Nintendo?
Sony and Nintendo are two very different companies. I know the early FFs were released on the SNES but they lost out to Sony after that.
By that logic you may as well have Cloud challenge Luigi to a duel. Hmmm....i wonder who would win.....:monocle:
I haven't played Ocarina of Time, so my answer is FFVII.
Imo Ocarina of Time made a bigger impact on gaming than what FFVII did. Also between the two games, FFVII has not aged well at all.
No question, FF VII.
I'm not sure how the two can be compared. Only thing they have in common is being an entry to a long-running Japanese based franchise, being released in the same era, and held in great esteem by their fans nearly twenty years after the fact. After that you're comparing apples to oranges pretty much.
They're about the same for me but probably OoT by a little bit more
OoT is probably not even that high on my list of favorite Zelda games to be honest... It's a good game, but it's not amazing. I LOVED it as a kid though.
