It's gonna involve some SimCity-ish city planning mechanics! WHO'S READY I'M READY, I'M SO READY
I refuse to believe it has been six years since Civ 5.
EDIT: I don't know how I'm supposed to discuss Civ with these people who think 3 is the best game.
Who thinks III is the best Civ? Genuine question.
II (and its spinoff SMAC) and IV are my personal favorites in the series.
A guy on Twitter who doesn't visit this site. He thinks all the other games are not complex enough, allegedly.
IV is my favorite but V's expansions made it pretty great.
Im excited to see this and can't wait to hear more about it in the coming months tbh.
Definitely like the sound of most of those changes. Exciting! :hyper:
Hell yeah, bring on more Civilization!
It's really been six years since Civ V? I picked it up really late then. I liked it, so I'm excited for this one.
Woohoo!
Art style is absolute poverty tier. Looks muuuuuuch uglier than Civ 5. But all the changes sound like improvements!
:3
Except the art direction. That could use a lot of work.
I'm fine with that art style.
Yeah. Art style is fine, it's very Civ.
just seems like a step back from 5. 4 wasn't ugly but i really think 5 looks better in every way.
Art style is great. Clean and simple. Games don't need a trillion polygons, ray tracing, complicated water effects, etc. to look good. In the case of Civ I'd almost say wasting time and money on that is undesirable.
You can have clean and simple art without aping that clash of clans/f2p aesthetic, to be fair.
Aside from being clean and simple I wouldn't say it's aping those at all.
I didn't think Civ5 was too cluttered and complex. 6 is too simplistic in my opinion.
I dunno Civ has always come off to me as very cartoony. I mean I didn't play much of V so maybe that was different but the earlier Civs felt very cartoony to me (in a good way). It was part of the charm of the series.
Agreed. Even looking at pictures of V (which i haven't played) it's not exactly some highly realistic, high tech affair. It's just as cartoony as the others from what I've seen. This art style I like more though.
Sounds good, excited for this!
I'm also not a big fan of this art style, I prefer Civ V (I guess probably because it's the one I've played the most), this looks like more of a step back.
My body is ready.

I'm pretty excited because the lead, Ed Beach, is a longtime veteran of board and video game design, and was in charge of both Civ V expacs, which I credit with redeeming the game (especially BNW but admittedly that might be because I think the Brave New World Theme is the only track in all Civ to ever come close to Baba Yetu)
Definitely gonna have Baba Yetu in my head for the rest of the day. Not complaining one bit.
In other news, Poland was really annoying me today. I converted one of their cities to Taoism previously and Casimir III got real mad about it. Like a good diplomat I said sorry dude, I'll stop. Then he started trying to convert my cities to Catholicism and when I told him to stop he was just like "NOPE".
So I trapped a Great Prophet and a Missionary of his in the middle of the ocean. Disproportionately pleased with myself.
