Yeah, have to echo Night Fury. Lulu's victory pose following a fight in FFX still bothers me. Most of your team jump and celebrate, Tidus throws his sword in the air, Lulu... bends over and jiggles her tits at the camera. I mean, why?
The expansion is called Heavensward. One of the raid bosses drops weapons with Heaven in the name, so why isn't the Paladin's Sword called Heavensword. That is the biggest missed opportunity in the entire franchise bar none. And it's been over a year and I'm still mad.
Literally nothing about the cCompilation of FFVII is salvageable.
Lightning Returns.
It's a race to the bottom between the FF7 compilation, Cindy, and FF13's trilogy storyline.
Added voice acting. I have nothing against voice acting, and the ones I've heard don't sound bad, and I get that it's "a step forward", and all, but I just don't like it in Final Fantasy. I just think that RPGs work better when you read the dialogue, because it allows both you and the writer to use their imagination, and simply because I prefer it that way.
At least give us a choice of text boxes and voice acting, and no, turning the sound down doesn't help, because the subtitles are still automatic, and then I miss out on the music and sound effects.
Any time the series has ever done a direct continuation of a game's plot. Starting with the silly Legend of the Crystals for FFV, and the game changer Final Fantasy X-2, before snowballing into the abysmal Compilation of VII, After Years, Revenant Wings and the XIII Trilogy.
I really can't think of one moment that changed the history of the company more than the failure of the Spirits Within followed by the success of X-2. Those three years changed Square into the company we know now.
The Compilation of FFVII is pretty bad; I feel like it's the main reason FFVII has a tarnished reputation. I like [about 60% of] Crisis Core, but if I have to hear one more person talk about how Zack should have been the main character of Final Fantasy VII, I'm going to scream. Which is a shame, because I love Zack. That, and Genesis is legitimately the worst thing to happen to FFVII canon.
For the series as a whole though, I think its the exponential growth of commercialism for each individual title. Some of it's fine; FFVII had an (admittedly bad) movie, FFIX had a coke commercial, FFXII had the potion soft drink, stuff like that feels like novelties made for the fans.
Its the other things, like blatantly making Gackt a character in FFVII, changing the main theme of FFXIII to "My Hands" (this is a minor example, and its not a bad song in its own right), the Louis Vuitton deal with Lightning; there's the current examples with FFXV: each character's outfit being based on a real life clothing line, making a real life Regalia for no other reason than to say it exists, making a movie and an anime midquel/prequel with famous television actors, three tie-in mobile games. It's as if Square Enix said "each entry in our flagship series has to become a multimedia franchise with celebrity endorsements and fashion lines to be seen as legitimate".
It won't hamper my enjoyment of the games at all, but it's hard to get excited about a game when the company that made it markets it as a smaller part of a much bigger scheme.
Not bring back qu's or moombas. Besides lulus moomba
I like hypello. But then I like jar jar binks (till he caused palpatined uprissing the wee dick) and hypello are jar jar binks
Stealing Xenogears' budget.
I'll echo the sentiments towards the compilation of FFVII, particularly Advent Children, which just didn't feel like it fitted in at all. Crisis Core I liked despite Genesis so I won't say CC was a mistake or something that it did badly, just that it had a character that I disliked, which isn't much different from FFX for me as FFX had three characters I disliked and they were all central characters to the story, so yeah.
Can't think of much else that felt wrong. I don't like a lot of things in the series but 'wrong', nah.
Getting Gideon Emery to voice a character and then putting him in a game I don't like how rude
making FF IX a numbered installment instead of a gaiden as it should have been, considering it was conceived as an ode to FFs history thus far... same for FF XI & XIV, they should have been FF Online 1 & 2, causing gaps in peoples collections that don't normally bother with MMORPGs... i still feel very strongly that an online only game should not be a numbered installment due to once they shut down the servers it's gone forever... but i can still play any of the offline ones on any of the consoles they came on because i take care of my stuff...
this opinion is of course inspired by looking at my own game shelf and those skipped numbers...
I always thought that Tidus, Yuna and Seymour in FF10 had much better voice actors in the Japanese version, to be honest.
Tidus' Japansese voice just seems to fit him much better, it has exactly that fiery and arrogant attitude that I was expecting from him - he is basically Ichigo, in fact he's played by Ichigo's voice actor.
Also, Yuna was "cuter" in the Japanese version - yes, she may sound more mature in the American version and more like a typical Japanese giggly girl in the Japanese version, but her Japanese voice expressed more energy and seemed more lighthearted.
Finally, Seymour's voice is way better in the Japanese version - instead of that flat, whiny voice he has in the American version he has got a dark, calm and sharp voice in the Japanese version that is incredibly sexy.
The only flaw with Japanese Seymour is that his voice actor is kinda bad and speaks without any emotion most of the time, but the sound of his voice makes up for that a bit.
