Great job, Tabby! :D
Great news! Hopefully it shows the bigwigs at SE that the franchise is still going strong.
It's a very strong start, and it'll give the development team courage that they're on the right track. I'd like them to not get complacent though: there are several things about FFXV that are still problematic, which I'd like them to correct in later instalments.
Hopefully they can recoup the investment at least
Tabata said that their goal, lifetime, was 10 million sales. I can only imagine his relief in seeing this kind of return so quickly.
Ten million sales also sounded kind of daunting... but after this start, it sounds like they could hit it by the end of the year. Gotta keep up the momentum.
It's still way to old early to tell.
I mean, I hope so. It would definitely bode well for the series.
Even if the ultimate fan reaction is mixed, as long as this game is financially successful, at least we'll keep getting more console FFs!
Like with movies, opening sales are mostly based on hype and initial reviews. Longevity will be determined based on how good the game actually is.
A lot of the 5 million sales are probably the people who are big fans and have been waiting for it for a long time, and was very hyped anyway. They'd have gotten those sales no matter how good the game was.
Maybe they'll break 10M within the year, but I think that's a more realistic number for the end of next year.
They also probably count the preorder sales into the day one figure as well.
I did not expect it to sell that much especially in one day. I thought maybe the long haul would affect it somewhat negatively.
I know some people got a package without a game in it. I've read more than one post in regards to that on the official FFXV forum. For me, the problems that FFXV have are technical side. Hopefully, they are addressed in the December patch that will be coming out
Nice, always good news. Here's hoping the long term sales are solid. :)

I thought it was 5 Million shipped, not sold.
5 million shipped is 5 million sold for Square Enix. It's not their problem if a retailer can't sell the copies they bought from SE
