bloody hell i hate these polls why do i have to choose YOU'RE TEARING ME APART SHAUNA :colbert:
Genuinely unsure, I really like both characters.
This matchup is very Red. Another difficult choice for me, but I gotta go with the awesomeness that is Auron.
Uhhh uhhhh uhhhhhhhh
Auron because it was the one I played first before VII (i did it backwards mmkay)
RED OCTOBER
The random number generator is really Shauna seeing which matchups will cause the most tears to pick between, then picking them.
:mwahaha:
Yeah these polls are pretty hard. Gonna go with auron though. He pretty cool one handing that sword and when he runs to attack with haste on its funny
Auron is totally boss.
I went for Red XIII, though I don't really care for either of these characters tbh - I don't feel either of them are particularly strong characters.
Vivi and Steiner I'll give you, but Freya? Bloody hell son. Red XIII is more important to VII's plot than Freya is to IX's and infinitely less boring. Fight me.
...although there wouldn't be much point seeing as how she only got one nomination. There's a reason Red XIII's in this tournament and she isn't! :greenie:
Maybe you should've named yourself after Grandma Pickle instead. I mean hey, she got just as many votes.
That was also my nom :( Stop being so mean. I'll report you to the auth..... well drat
Oh wait not Grandma Pickle wasn't mine, Grandma Potpourri was.
Red without question. Although I will note that post-Bugenhagen Red XIII isn't even 10% as cool as pre-Bugenhagen Red XIII. He basically goes backwards in leaps and bounds in maturity at that point, although that's kind of interesting to me because I know of loads of people that carry themselves as really collected, mature people but after you get to know them you discover their insecurities and that they're just another person with their issues like the rest of us. I guess Red XIII is one of those kind of people, and that's not a bad thing. I just loved him when he was going around being a badass.
Auron's cool and I used him almost always in the game, but I just felt he was incredibly overhyped and to this day I don't know why. Vincent got the same deal. Must be something to do with the look.
Omg so many people are just wrong and I don't think my precious little heart can cope
Red XIII? Seriously?
My smurfing toe nails have more charisma and memorable lines than Red XIII
I voted Auron even though he's okay at best but Red is literally a nothing. I liked him back in my Lion King phase. Now it's just weird and embarrassing to think about.
I agree he's a badass! Loved using him in fights.
Kind of completely off topic but why do people call guys "daddy" when they're not a dad I am naive and stupid. Is it just the whole "lol some girls get off on calling guys daddy in sexytimes" or is it something else?
/almostrandom
Some characters are the "moms" or "dads" of a group for how they act with the other characters.
unless you mean in a sexual sense and not in this context o.o
I mean in the general sense of how it was used in this kind of context, I was legit wondering if it was something related to the more sexual variation, but I guess being the "daddy of the group" description is more understandable for me. xD
No ma'am. :(
I like both but Red XIII is the type of conceptual wild card this series needs more of
Auron. It's always a pleasure to see Bruce Willis guest star in a Final Fantasy game.
Freya had a more interesting story and FF is on short supply of badass female characters. She also Riverdances!
Red XIII had a boring predictable plot line and ultimately comes across as an annoying know-it-all kid who basically has reality give him a wake up call beat down. My favorite thing about him was kicking the ball into him at Costa del Sol.
Freya also has the better character theme.

Red XIII's novelty basically comes down to
http://godhatesgeeks.com/wp-content/...-Cat-Small.jpg
I didn't realize people disliked Red XIII so much! I'm not crazy about him or anything, and I agree he is a rather weak character, but he was cool for the parts of the story that he was in.
Nah I don't hate him. I just think he really isn't that interesting and my recent replay only confirmed how insufferable he can get. Also, Freya is a better character by a mile, so seeing such slander just made it clear I had to speak up because damn, that's just crazy talk!
Freya isn't even in the top 3 female badasses in her game (Beatrix, Lani and even god damn Ruby all had more personality) let alone the series!
Red XIII is not a know-it-all in the slightest! He shows a lot of vulnerability and fear of the unknown (e.g. "I have a tattoo too, will I go mad?" Paraphrased) and I have no idea how you missed that. He's a likeable and down-to-earth character who adds some much needed chill to counterbalance the likes of Barret. In Cosmo Canyon he shows a totally different side unlike beep boop emotionless Freya and the emotional payoff at the end is superb.
Red XIII's main arc ties nicely into FFVII's core theme of self identity. His side arcs (fear of being controlled by Hojo/Sephiroth and death of Bugenhagen aka the planet) also do and keep him relevant throughout the game.
All of this is why Red XIII is objectively one of the best FF characters in history as recognised by his place in this tournament. And Freya got one vote.
You just leaped off into the deep end with Lani
Great. Two of my favourite characters head-to-head.

Red XIII! He's all like TAKE THAT HOJO YOU BASTARD. Whereas Auron is like SIN IS JECHT. Way to ruin a potential plot twist so early in the game, Auron.
Auron of course. Dude's one of the few FF characters I really do care about.
Auron's a badass. Red XIII is a badass with vulnerabilities, a moving (though granted, fairly straightforward) local storyline and he helps form a needed logical foundation when characters start getting loopy. And I personally find Cosmo Canyon one of my favourite sections of Disc 1, although I know a surprising number of people don't very much care for any of it.
Either deserve to win this, but I don't think Red XIII is a novelty character. If anything Cait Sith is your novelty character although even it gains a semblence of depth in the latter stages of the game.
Wow, another tie! C'mon Auron!
I withdrew my own vote that I had placed to UP THE ANTE - our winner is Red XIII!
*tableflip*
Most of this doesn't matter anymore but...
Really stretching it there with two of the choices. Honestly, mechanic-wise, Freya is one of the most broken characters in the game considering she gets an MP restoring ability, a guarantee max damage cap skill and she's the traditionally broken Dragoon class of which all Dragoon characters are badasses. Even Beatrix is more badass as a boss, since her fights are rigged in her favor, than as character. It becomes obvious that her stats are not really as strong as they should be and she doesn't have enough MP to be a real wrecking ball like Steiner can with the same abilities.
Which is basically the game trying to hand wave his original story, which actually made him more interesting since he was a clone in the early drafts. None of this changes that this revelation really never goes anywhere or adds anything to him.Quote:

More like quiet and bored to be with the rest of the cast. Honestly Red has like next to no lines for most of the sections after Midgard and before his hometown, and he has little to no lines after that./ He could be written out of the plot and not impact it at all.Quote:

You seem to forget her breakdown in Cleyra when she finds her love Frately and discovers he no longer remembers her which breaks her heart, or the anger she feels when she returns to find her home of Burmecia in ruin, or when she tells Zidane off for all his damn womanizing cause she's a boss.Quote:

Not really, cause as I said, the one line never goes anywhere concerning Hojo or Sephy, and considering he has a "score to settle with Hojo" it feels kind of dumb that he didn't use the better opportunity when he was first introduced since he mauled the guy and did nothing. So it really feels like the writer's just trying to come up with reasons to keep him relevant and as I said many trimes before, Barret also has a connection to Cosmo Canyon, so he could have easily been written as the link to Bugenhagen making the talking cat even more pointless than the novelty he is. His identity plot was cliched and predictable and only saved by the fact that "The Great Warrior" is one of the best tracks in VII. Again, most of his relevancy ends after Cosmo Canyon as the team already know Bugenhagen by then and he doesn't do anything after that except hand off the Black Materia to Sephiroth controlled Cloud if he's not in your active party.Quote:

I didn't vote for either, but simply because I feel there were better characters in the series. Freya's issue is that her plot never resolves as Zidane and Garnet's personal stories become cancerous plot tumors in the game's second half, whereas Red XIII is pretty much a non-entity for the rest of VII after Cosmo Canyon because his name isn't Cloud, Tifa, or Cid, who are all the only people who do matter after the first disc. Frankly I feel Cyan is the character who really got robbed in this tournament. :ffviscorn:Quote:
