ff2 still bae tho
Is this opposite day or something? I'd say FF2 is easily the worst in the whole series. Mostly because of the level up system. But really in the NES days these games didn't have much more going for them than the basic system, and FF2's is not good.
Well we happen to like it. Some people like XIII unironically so idk why you’re so shocked
I assume they like it for the story. Although the story bored me enough that I never finished it. Maybe I'm shocked because this thread started with a pretty sound criticism of FF2 and then veered wildly to praise for no discernible reason. Also, no reason why FF and FF3 are supposedly so bad.
You can like and enjoy something even if it has some flaws. FF2 is not perfect, not even close- though I admire its ambition and how it has a good story and characters for its time. Firion has a cool design, Maria breaks the "Princess who needs to be saved " stereotype, Minwu is fantastic, and the villain is one of the best villains in FF history.
FFI is okay, but I feel like it gets a bit tiresome and exhausting fast and FF3 has the worst final dungeon in FF history. FF2 has somewhat of a story and a good bad guy to keep you going (IMO)
I feel like FF15 is the worst FF, but I know that some are going to very disagree with that.
That's possible. I never got far enough in the game to find out, because the gameplay turned me away too hard. That's the thing about RPGs. Even if we play them for the stories, ultimately they're still games. If the game part is too onerous, the promise of a story at the end isn't enough to get me through.
FFXV is kind of boring to me, and I haven't finished it, but I generally regard it as step up from FFXII.
You better run before Fynn gets ya.

I just assumed he meant XIII but mistyped, since who compares XV to XII?
And if he hates XII, that’s his loss :monster:
Uh. No. I definitely meant FF12. I'll use arabic numerals so there's no confusion. I didn't like FF13 either. It was the first modern FF that I grew too tired of to complete. FF12 was the first FF that I wished I hadn't bothered with after completing it though. Even though I haven't finished FFXV and see it as far from ideal, I at least appreciate that it seems like step up from FF12. The gameplay is some stupid KH trout, but at least it feels like there's an actual story being told.
FFXV having a story and XII not...? What? If anything FFXV doesnt have any story at all. except maybe in the last third of the game and dlcs. XII had a story from the very get go.
I always find it funny when i remember the death of noctis's father is so unimpactful because presumably you'd have to watch the movie kingsglaive to even have an impact or know what happened from it.
As for FF2 i agree with it being the best out of the 3, hell its better than some of the modern FF' imo.namely, 8 13 and 15. (although id say 8 is kinda around the same enjoyement as 2.)
yeah i know this post is like 2 months old meow meow
I didn't finish XV. I only got up to Titan before moving on to other games. In that time though, it had more story than all of FFXII.
Odd,because i got up to queatzalii which is further than titan and i had no idea why or what we were doing, granted i had that with XII first time but atleast i knew there was something being told, i just am not a political person. XV just lost me from the get go and all i knew was we were finding weapons of noctis's ancestors or something and thats about it. Maybe i dont like the way the story is told through banter in the party instead of through cutscenes which give you time to absorb it.
FF2 be like: pick a door, any door! Then hate your life, because only one is right and you are going to pick the other three first.
>: I
yeah... ff2's dungeons are pretty horrible...
The story of FF2 was definitely its strongest point. There were some memorable scenes like the destruction of the Dreadnought and Josef's sacrifice. It's a shame the magic levelling system was so poor. It's a mark of Square to try something new with their games... it's just a shame this idea wasn't the best.

I just clear Eureka and save, then do the rest of the tower, which isn't really all that bad.
yeah i did that too but i was unawarely underleveled that the WoD bosses were very very strong lol
To be honest, they're just really overpowered even at high levels. I think Cerberus is the only that's fairly easy, but the other three are pretty much designed to force you to bleed through your resources.
Idk, I'd argue that even with saving after Eureka (who in their right smurfing mind would not do that though seriously) the combination of Crystal Tower and Dark World one after the other with no chance of saving when many bosses from the boss rush near the end can kill you effortlessly even if you're relatively high-leveled is incredibly daunting and by far the evilest thing FF has done
I would argue that FFIV: The After Years is a far worse player punch than FFIII's dungeon gauntlet. Two back to back dungeons the first one has 13 floors with almost each of those floors having a boss, followed by a second dungeon that is an additional 20 floors with 20 bosses of their own, four of which are optional superbosses, and this is then followed up with the actual final boss. Throw in the fact that the difficulty curve of this part of the game sky-rockets and you easily have one of the most frustrating final slogs in FF history. Even with the ladder to let you save between these bouts, it doesn't make up for the last third of the game being just one monotonous dungeon crawl. III's dungeon is actually pretty straightforward in comparison.
To which I say: save points

Oh be elitist all you want. Doesn’t change the fact that, even though you spend months in FFIVTAY’s final dungeon, at least you don’t need to start from scratch every time you make a tiny mistake
Hey, if you were actually prepared, you wouldn't be having tiny mistakes. :grover:
Honestly, you people are just whining because it's not really that bad, not even compared to other RPGs of the time. I'll take the Crystal Tower/World of Darkness shenanigans over the Road to Rhone and Hargon Castle bulltrout in DQII or the Neutral path final dungeon in Shin Megami Tensei 1. At leas the dungeon isn't throwing enemies at you that can easily wipe out the whole party before you get a first turn or is some multi-level maze that involves you having to travel the dungeon almost twice to clear the game.
Except this isn’t DQ or SMT. It’s not a problem for me since I’m familiar with those series and enjoy difficulty, but in the context of how easy the other FFs are and how late it took FFIII tp get officially released in the West, there is definitely a solid reason behind why people consider this particular dungeon marathon hell.
Yeah but if you actually play the first three games in their original format, you'll learn the series is actually just as tough as original DQ and SMT. It's not the game's fault most of us were raised on the easy entries. Even older Mario games are tougher than the newer ones. Even then, it still doesn't change the fact that there are more egregious examples of tough final dungeons than FFIII. Hell the 3D remake is actually easier than the normal one.
