WELL? WELL?
I voted no because I've never seen a female Black Mage. But then one must wonder how Black Mages reproduce. Or maybe that was explained in FFIX...
There's nothing stopping female party members from becoming Black Mages in FFV and FFT, and Lulu in FFX is a Black Mage, as well.
Well of course. White Mages can also be male or female. It's a matter of perspective.
I dunno about Lulu. She can kinda become anything.
SEE I TOLD YOU IT'S NOT GENDER SPECIFIC!!
Okay, forget job classes for a moment, and don't even THINK about FFX. >:0 I'm talking those old-school hooded little bastards. You know the ones. Can they be female? No. No, I didn't think so. Thank you.
And please ignore Loki and his caps lock.
FFV is old-school. And they wear hats. White Mages wear hoods.
... D:
*fails*
*wins*
you people forget rydia? so i vote yes they can.
Lydia was a Summoner who could cast black magic, not a Black Mage who could summon Genjű.
R*ydia was a black mage/summoner, but i guess its how you look at it.
Don't talk back, man. That's her proper name. And we all know her TRUE destiny is as a summoner. >:\
OK, so we've come to the conclusion that there are no female FF characters that are black mages and only black mages.
Lulu's dossier in FFX-2 clearly states that she's a Black Mage.
hmmm, i voted yes (cus im a bit of a twat) and cus of the lulu argument, but the word mage is usualy male realated. feamle mage would probebly be a Magess?
Yeah, but doesn't the sphere grid let her become other things? I've never played FFX, so I don't really know how that works.Quote:

Fools. Of course Black Mages can be any gender. Thay arent always Vivi style. Think of Lulu and Palom. They didnt look like Vivi and Reina. And what the hell is "Hu" supposed to be?
Palom, the Black Wizard, is a boy. Porom, his twin sister, is a White Wizard. All of the party members can gain most of each other's skills, but not their Overdrives. So, no: using the Sphere Grid, Lulu can become like other characters in battle, but her Overdrive restricts her to the Black Mage class. She's one of those pointy-hat demons through and through.Quote:

The exception that proves the rule.
You can't really tell what they are.... under those long cloaks and hats.
I don't see any reason why Black Mages can't be female. What about FFV? You can make your characters be anything, despite their gender.
Dear Andreil Darkstorn; you are stupid. Please go away from my lovely thread.
FFV has female characters that can assume the black mage class. FFX's Lulu is by default, a black mage. There's no real reason to restrict any class to a specific gender.
What about Bards and Dancers in Tactics?
Bards and Dancers don't count, he meant real, typical classes.
Mages aren't gender-specific. The characters in FF1 aren't gender-specific or class-specific, so you can have female black mages or male white mages or female ninjas or female monks or female knights.
Bards and Dancers can be male in FFV.
Edward's a Bard
there is no gender specific class
hurray for spoony bards!!!
All FFX characters can learn lancet, but it is only Kimarhi that learns skills.
Only Yuna can summon though.
Do you, at any point at time actually get told in FFIX that Vivi is male? He is really a pare of glowing amber eyes. And in FFX, Lulu is a black mage.:magus:
I think the "male bonding" scene pretty much confirms that Vivi's male.
But what does "Hu" mean?
And in Tactics female characters can become Black Mages. Yes, Black Mages can be female.
But poor BM from 8-bit theater will still always be pining over WM.
Lenna and Faris are females. And they can become black mages. Therefore, black mages can be female.
Final Fantasy Tactics, boy and female warriors, both can be black magics...not just boy... boy and girl... meaning girls can be black mages.
Simple as that.
