Final Fantasy Character Showdown! Winner!

This is a 64 character tournament to see who is the strongest Final Fantasy character of all time. Vote in the poll between each pair of characters and every couple of days or so I will update the poll. I have marked the pairs of characters with letters to show who's fighting who. There are four divisions, the 8-bit Division, the 16-bit Divison, the Next-Gen Division, and the Wild Card Divison (the division names mean nothing as the characters are all mixed up). We'll do those and then go to a final four.

We'll start with 8-bit Division Round 1! Get to voting!

I haven't played all of these games, but I'm sure I could get a good idea of who to vote for. Sounds like fun. *thinks*

looks like i voted for every1 who was winning NEway, apart from lulu and balck mage were close but my wote for lulu may of gave her the edge, but its hard to tell
I sure hope u get cloud, sephiroth, well most the FFVII crew and FFX crew into this. maybe u could of done a bracket for each game then had the best play the best.

Cid Highwind deserves a lot better than a 4-seed, man. And there's no way that Yuna is one of the Dukes or Kentuckys of Final Fantasy. :p

Yuna (and only Yuna) has access to some of the most powerful attacks ever seen in Final Fantasy. Her ability to summon six or seven beasts per battle that do hoards of damage and take hits of their own is unmatched by anyone on that board. In my opinion she can wipe the floor with anyone and is one of the most powerful Final Fantasy character ever.

Hm, looking back now Cid should have switched with Mog so I agree with you. The seedings were loosely done based on my opinion of the strength, importance, and likability of each character. If there is a next time I will seed them based on these results I assure you.

I'll start round 2 tomorrow evening sometime, or however long it takes for the Black Wizard to beat Lulu. :D

Actually, that's true now that I think about it. Yojimbo meant an instant kill on anything, and Anima meant 1.6 million HP worth of damage, if I remember rightly.

But Gogo could have mimiced that if it was in Yuna's party, yet you all forget it! :(

We have our first same game match with Lulu vs. Yuna, and for some reason it's a close one. (you people make me sick)

yuna, cid, celes, and mog. tbqh the only one i found at all difficult to decide was yuna vs. lulu.

cid in ff7 was actually one of my favourite cids. ff4 and ff9 had really good cids as well. i think thus far cid in ff6 has been my least favourite, he's pretty bland really.

cid vs. vivi is a tough matchup and i've been known to vote either way, but whatever ;)

i didn't really consider celes' victory over squall to be much of an upset either; by my estimation, squall is the least popular main character since frionel or whatever they called him in origins

Also note that Cid's victory over Yuna can be explained. Imagine if you will.

Yuna would indeed quickly summon, and would hurt Cid. But our potty mouth airship capitain is of the Dragoon tradition. So he can jump OVER the summon and take on the Summonner directly (can he, I say he can! So there! yes I know Kihmari can't jump enemy Summoners) Yuna becomes Summonner on a stick, Cid has a nice smoke. (smoking is bad kids)




Of course, Yuna COUD have gotten out her FLYING Aeon but..... shut up, Cid won. Now if only he can take out the magic wielding general.

(mind you, Celes against Yuna. Would Celes runci abailty be able to prevent Yuna from summoning eveything, bringing it down to hand to hand? We shall never know)

Remove the word "Cid" and you got yourselves a quote from FFVII. Seriously, go find it, it's what an NPC says throughout the game, so it isn't that hard to find :D

Neither is really that strong, but Celes gets my vote for being an evil general and actually having skills without having to use any outside help (materia).

Celes has an early lead, but we had 20 votes last time so it's still anyone's game.

I find myself sorely unable to choose. Either character winning this division would make me very happy.

Just make it easy on yourself, Man. Vote Celes, since that's the obvious choice, anyway.

In a very close battle it looked like Celes edged out Mr. Highwind with a mix of Runic and powerful spells. She moves on to face the winner of the 16-bit Division, but first let's go to the Next-Gen Division. 16 more characters, but only one will make it to the end.

I can't believe Relm is a 15 seed and white wizard (ff1) is 14. They are both strong characters. However, Steiner beats WW. Tough matchup. Relm waxes Rinoa, though. Then she sketches a new copy of Rinoa and slaughters her too. Locke should also be much higher, but he can beat the crap out of Benjamin.

Celes's victory makes me very happy.

I'm not familiar with a lot of these matchups, though, so I'll just vote on what I've heard over time.

And you probably could've convinced me otherwise. Though, you know, Terra would really beat the living daylights out of Locke.

no way, Locke would just dodge all her attacks.

But evade dosen't work in FF6, and she would only use magic anyway, and it's not like Locke can ever have enough HP to survive magic attacks, espically Ultima.

what are you talking about evade doesn't work? My Locke (admittedly with Illumina and Paladin Shield, MArvel Shoes, and a Zephyr Cape) evades basically all physical and magic attacks. And he would survive ultima and lay waste on Terra.

He'd be no match for her esper form.

terra is a better character, so i'm voting for her. i really couldnt give a toss who's more powerful in battle.

Morph is dumb though. It's a much better skill in ff7.

The FFVI characters stay strong and now Edgar tries to help the game take over this tournament. He has his work cut out for him, as he battles the legendary guardian, Auron! Will Edgar find the right tool before has Auron seen 'enough'?

zidane wins if he can get into trance. and auron would probably win too.

Zidane and Auron. Edgar was okay, but Auron was the best thing about FFX. Vincent's overrated.

Vincent is one of the less good characters in ff7, battlewise. He's still better than stuffed reevis, though.

Vincent was a decent story character. I don't think I ever really bothered using him much after I got him. His flying thing was cool but I couldn't really be bothered because I didn't find him very effective. xD

I liked him because he used a gun and because he was cool.

but for someone who used a gun, his attacks sucked majorly.

I hate every FF character who uses a gun as their primary weapon.

I'll go with Zidane and Auron. Vincent is cool, but Zidane's one of my favorite main FF characters (2nd only to Cloud, IMHO), and I'll go with Auron because he's a good character and because I don't want to see Edgar in the finals with the other FF6 characters.

Vincent is crappy, that's how.

Vincent is one of the coolest characters from any FF. He deserves to win. The only characters "cooler" would probably be Sabin or Kain.

*really doesn't like Edgar* In the last round, I voted Edge against him, and in this one, I voted Auron. And if he makes it to the final, consider my vote going to Zidane or Vincent. But if it was Locke, or Gogo or someone else cool from VI, then that would be a different story altogether.

Vincent was not crappy! he was one of the best in 7 imho.

He's weak in battle, and his personality is a complete rehash of that of Shadow in FFVI and Kain in FFIV. "Hi, I'm distant and aloof." How original!

How is it a rehash? Or any more a rehash than most the characters in this series? I don't see any similarites between him and Kain.

They're both silent, brooding characters who have tragic pasts. Granted, it's almost a requisite to have a tragic past to be an rpg character, but both of them have pasts more tragic than normal.

Kain was the original silent, brooding RPG character (as far as I'm concerned) and he remains the best, with Shadow being a close second.

Cloud - his life was made a living hell by Sephiroth
