You name it to help you discover the R=U
I highly doubt it does anything
yup thats all it does,
It would be cool if we could unlock griever and we just never knew about it. Like Doomtrain, except you have to have 99 of every item, or something extreme like that.
If you name the ring 'Jesus,' then you can summon it as a GF*.
*No, not really.
Jesus would be an uber GF though
No he wouldn't, you'd only be able to use him in battle once before his martyrdom rendered him dead. Zarathustra would be a FAR cooler GF.
My friend has a replica of Squall's ring. It's actually pretty cool.
...Much better than my replica of the One Ring.
i have it too but the one i have is not that good. mine came with the Rinoa ring thingy.Quote:

yeh they have the cheap ones u buy in sets that i believe are plastic or w.e .... and there are others that are silver 9-point-somin i saw on ebay. same wit the necklace etc.
if there was a real gunblade i would buy one =]
Naming the animal shown on Squall's ring and necklace just gives the player a chance to have some personal input into Squall's character, kind of like you're shaping a part of his back-story. Since the player is controlling Squall and 'listening' to his thoughts, it's only fair that you get a bit of influence over things like the mythical beast whose image Squall has on his jewellry and weapon.
Jesus second coming, thats what his attack could beQuote:

Doesn't naming the ring also name the (SPOILER)GF Ultimecia summons?

my girlfriend has the squall ring and rinoas ring set on a chain from ebay, and i got squalls necklace, they came to gether and squals is realy kool :)
I called it Sidney :)
It was hilarious when (SPOILER)Ulti summoned "Oh Sidney...". Hardly conjures the image of 'the most powerful GF' :D
Names such as "my buns" also have entertaining, if juvenile, results. "Make them bleed" indeed...
lol..... "make them bleed my buns!!!!"
"Allow me to show you! My buns! Make them bleed!"
I will junction myself with My buns...
"This... LION of yours... does it have a name?"
"Of course. My buns"
"Hmm, so that's what it's called..."
OMG! I just realized that the ring's name and Ulti's GF's name are the same! OMG, OMG, OMG! R=U is true! AAAAHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Edit by Kishi: Shup.
Squall's ring doesn't have a name. The winged lion carved on his ring has the same name as Ultimecia's GF because they are the same creature.
Oh. Thanks, Big D. I was getting really worried that all my anti-R=U campaigning was in vain.
*Is confused by Ansem*
D I'm not sure it's that cut and dried. Even taking the most common anti-R=U arguement I've heard, the GF version was created by Ultimecia to throw Squall (I really dislike that arguement), I don't think Squall's description really matches Ulty's.
A leonine, winged creature and a very powerful GF. That's what Squall believes Greiver is, and what Griever turns out to be...
I can't remember the last battle that well, I always replay till late disc three unless I have a reason to go on, but I don't remember Griever looking particularly like something Squall would idolise. More like a twisted version of his idea.
I thought Griever looked kind of odd, too - grey and red rather than typical 'lion' colours, but meh... The basic shape resembles the image of Griever on the revolver's blade.
I, for some odd reason or another, always thought that Ultimecia summoned Griever off of Squall's ring/pendant. Diablos is obtained by using an item, I guess I kinda figured it worked the same way, and when she summons Griever, the only place you've encountered him before is on Squall's equipment. I guess somehow it just seemed to me that Griever was contained in the ring without Squall knowing it. That's just another one of my cracked out thoughts though. I doubt it's what the designers intended.
The only thing I can add is the fact that Squall's ring matches his Gunblade as they both have the Greiver imprinted on.
Thats pretty much it, the only reason it was really in the game was because they needed something material wise to link Rinoa and Squall together.
Or maybe its like one of those really popular symbols like the mermaid on your mud guards on your car.
Rinoa, like a child in love, asks squall what the name of his "cute" lil lion was. Same for them pewter dragon rings you can buy, no real names but someone asks you the name and to be nice you give it a name.
What did you name your furbie, or your gigapet?
I named a teddy bear after the illustrator Bill Ward, does that count?
