what do you think is the best time/turn based battle system?
The one from FF1 and FF2 is superior. You had no idea of knowing if you or the enemy would act first. Plus it required some forethought and strategy, what with the 'Inneffective' deal going on.
^ Agreed.
I tell ya, kids these days with their "ATB" and their "Sphere Grids." I tell ya, they just don't know what it was like back in the old days. Now they're all just a bunch a young whippersnappers doin' 99,999 damage with a normal attack! Why, back in my day, you had level up to at least level 40 with a Knight just to do over a thousand with the XCALBER! And that's if we were lucky to get that far!
Seriously. Back in the day, we had to predict whether our enemy would die before we attacked them, otherwise we'd waste a turn!
And back in the day, when Level 99 was nearly unattainable! Now any numbskull with opposable thumbs and 10 hours of free time can max out his levels... shameful...
And way back when, when you could only cast your strongest spell one or two times! None of this "Ether" business all these young'uns talk about these days.
I don't know... I'm really used to ATB... yet i like CTB more... But every time i play with CTB i'm always in a rush, it's like a reflex! I'm starting to hate my triangle button :( So ATB gets-a me vote
I have to say that I liked the battle system in X alot.
I prefer RTB like in Star Ocean, but I don't think that's the same as the FFXI RTB. I chose that anyways, as turned based fighting puts me to sleep.
well arnt us young uns glad the ff seris has evolved from the dark ages.Quote:

and back in the day the bossess were so easy. the four fiends for example will die in 1-3 hits at lv50 and ffI is without a doubt the shortest game to max lvs, just fight warmech a few times. he too was easy. and i,m saying this about the origins edition which is harder. the bossess hp was double then what Dr unne's data says on this site.
maybe we can do 99999 with a single hit now. but we dont have 2000 hp Warmech anymore. we have 12,000,000 hp Penance. we are not restricted to 999 hp and lv50 and as this has evolved, so too has the batle systerm. ff4-9 ATB is definitly more tactical then ff1-3 and ffX ctb was a glorious evolution of the classics. now as long as they dont go down the ffX-2 atb road, i,ll be happy.
p.s i,m not really that serious i just dont like the OAPS complaining is all :D
FFX-2's battle system was the fastest paced battle system, so that's my favorite. What's FFXI's battle system like?
Paramekion, FFIIj. Your argument is kaput. ;)Quote:

cool i can do it in ten butten pressess too. :D still dont mean hes easy, the guy had 255 defence for god sake.
he was way harder then warmech. i cant comment on shinryu or omega yet but the ff7/8 weapons and ozma were a huge evolution in hardness over him and in turn nemesis, the greater dark aeons and penance were a huge evolution over them. to be honest even penance is easy at the end when you know what your doing but that doesnt stop him being the hardest boss ever in ff. so i dont see what your point is really suggesting.
ATB (FF4-9) is simply the best system there ever was. To make a boss hard all the time there must be no good stragedy at all that you can use on it.
I was really surprised at how much I liked FFX's battle system. It was very strategic and did a great job of making use of every character. I'm glad they decided to try something different for that game.
What was FFXI's battle system like?
No idea :p Would be nice if they brought in something like the Charge Times from FFT and mixed it with Inneffective though :p
>>> I like them all..
I think FFX's would have been better if instead of using your skills immediately and then tacking on the charge time to your wait time, you actually had to wait in between issuing the command and performing the action. It's too easy to just instantly cast Ultima and then wait to recover. You should have a charge time so that you have to consider if your character can actually survive the time needed to cast Ultima. There could even be auto-abilities or spells like Quicken to reduce the charge time.
I like the turn based system of X and Tactics. You could plan out your moves more effectively.
Active Time Battle.
I like the ATB in FFX-2 a lot, because of the ability to get combos by timing your attacks. It also makes the battles much more fast paced and exciting.
That said, I also enjoyed the Wait system in FFX, because it gave you time to plan your battles strategically, and concentrate on each character's strength. I also loved being able to swap the characters in and out of battle.
So, I wouldn't say either was best, as I like them both for different reasons, but I do think it's good that Square never stick to one battle system and always give us something new. =)
ATB
FFX-2's system was cool.
I like the turn based battle system.
well CTB was good, but all the good FF's had ATB, thats why I chose ATB (4-9)

i like a battle system that didnt allow you to sit and think for ten minutes, you have to act on your feet.
I am happy to hear voices of reason though, games today are a lot easier than they use to be, you people need to get some old school games and see how you fair

ATB that pauses when it reaches one of your character's turn. Heck, it almost makes it CTB =/
