Do you believe that there is such a thing called Equality? Maybe I should specify- Equality under the law...
So far as human nature allows it. Human beings sit in juries, human beings are our judges, human beings make the laws. Human beings are flawed. I think we do a well enough job though, the vast majority of the time, at least in this country.
Equality, on paper yes. In real life, we r still working on that, but things seem to be heading in the right direction.
Except in math, there's no such thing as equality. Things and people are different, and therefore not equal.
Yes there is equality somewhere, but I dont believe it exsists too much in human beings, there is always going to bigger, more powerful, more richer than everyone else. People will always put certain people on pedastals and make them more important than the next.
people arent equal, especially not under the law. equality under the law should exist, but it really doesnt.
That sort of equality implies that every human being should be exactly the same, effectively making us all identical, mindless drones.Quote:

No. Equality doesn't exists at all, or at least not that I see it.
However, people only seem to want equal rights when it is convenient for them.
Well, I wish that there was equality, but there really isnt. Especially not in the work place. Gah It makes me upset that women in some places get paid less than men. It is totally unfair!!!!
I didn't mean what I said in that way. I meant that no one is ever going to be treated equal to the next. No human should be exactley the same, that'd just be boring.Quote:

No there isn't, people use to talk about equality but they ended up marginalising others!
It's a shame!
Equality is only on paper. All people are equal in the eyes of the law only in that it's not *illegal* for certain people to have the same protection as others. However, equality is thrown out the window when reality gets brought into the equation. By reality, I mean wealth. You're only as deserving of fair judicial process as your bank account will allow. For example, capital punishment is reserved for the poor.
Equality isn't a right either. The priveledged will stay such, and the unfortunate will do likewise. All people aren't created equal, and equality as far as society practices it only means that everyone is *allowed* to be priveleged, as opposed to the old caste system in India where certain people weren't allowed to be equal. Modern equality is open to everyone on paper, and that's a good thing, but in practice, there's a status quo, and those with privelege have no interest in seeing others become thier peers, and the government won't do anything to level the playing field.
My stance on equality: If it doesn't exist, act as if it did.
Here's the way I see it:
True equality can only be achieved when everyone is exactly the same. But that's boring, right? There are probably about 50 million books that I'm sure we all read in high school about a hypothetical society where everyone's the same. The problem is, we want it both ways. We want equality, but we also want diversity, and the two things cannot coexist.
So really, when we talk about "equality" in society, I think of finding a happy medium between equality and diversity, rather than true equality.

As in race? Yeah, we just have to keep mating, each other tell were the same race and we all look alike. I got that from white man cant jump. :p The way I view equality is that, we all are equal through the law, and almost every body gets a fair trial. But in some cases that hasnt happened. There is equality in different levels, such as. Everybody over 16 can get a drivers license, everybody over the age of 21 or somthing has the right to own a gun, etc. Except people who've violated that right. etc. As in personalities peopel have similar traits, but arnt all the same, everybody is different.
