As you guys know Bush declined the invitation with talks with the NAACP. What do you guys think about it?
I myself think the leader of the NAACP is a racist man. An I dont like things he's said about Conservatives being Neo Facist Nazis and what not. And talking all about confederacy. If Bush went there all it was going to be was a Bush bash debate or somthing.
And I think that this is another nail on Bush's coffin, so to speak. Funny how we all think differently when we've already made up our minds about someone.
I agree that a person like President Mfume (I think that's his name) leading a powerful organization like the NAACP is not a good thing. He is the kind of person that believes that if something does not go his way, that it is automatically racism. Which is not true in this world. Bush reserves the right to decline to go to anything, especially when all it will be is people insulting him and telling him that he's racist.

If I was Kerry I wouldn't go. NAACP is a racist group. In days past it use to be good but I think we are past it for the most part.
Either way it looks bad for bush.

And something tells me, I've heard that name before... some racially-driven organization. Doesn't sound good. I mean, this isn't the sixties anymore, and racism isn't supported by the goverment. Organizations like this seem a bit... dated, not to say worse.
Despite being a minority, I never liked the NAACP that much. It's a shame of an organization because it's mainly for black people(not that there's anything wrong with that), but it's main concerns doesn't involve Hispanic, Asian, Indian, or Native minorities.Quote:

Bush is the president. He shouldn't have to see anyone. It's good that he established that. He should break traditions here and there. Not because it makes a real difference, but just to show who's in charge. Noone wants a president that's a puppet of every special interest group in Washington. Bush is only a puppet to his own interests, and that's the sort of president we need. He knows to look out for #1 first.

OK, um...well, I don't know much about this organization, so I don't think I can give my opinion.
However, I'll say it's bad just because Bush is involved! :D

No. The NAACP may not be the greatest organization to be fighting for the best interests of African-Americans, but they sure have gotta alotta needed change, changed. They may have a leader thats Racist, but the organization is there to protect the interests of Colored Peoples, i can say much less for Bush.
Im not gonna say that the name calling was right cuz its not, but Bush is basically saying, "I dont need the Black vote.". It would be a lot better if he went to another African-American Organization to speak, and adressed the concerns of the Black Community, in person. And whats so wrong with the NAACP, trying to get a '04 canidate to speak his piece? Even if we all know he wont win...

And about the existance of such group, well, I don't know much about it, but it makes sense it exists. Racism exists in the US, I don't think anyone will deny that. It exists in Germany too, and in Spain, and in Cuba, and in Italy...it makes sense there are organizations attempting to defend minorities from abuses.
What would be the reaction to Al Sharpton declining an invitation to visit with the KKK? :cool:

The fact remains that they only care about the interest of blacks.
1. The NAACP bands together against Racial prejudice, and to protect the civil rights of colored people in the United States, and also helps other minority groups with issues they beileve infringe upon civil rights. And to make sure whats happened before will never happen again.Quote:

War Angels' comment was saying that NAACP has no use in todays US, but i countered with a comparison, of the Reservations that hold the Native American community together, and keeps their traditions/heritage strong. I beileve the NAACP keeps African-Americans from forgetting their roots, and the sacrifices of their grandfathers/mothers in getting change, and pushes for needed change in the US today.

That would be very interesting. Now first let me say, due to his past activism i'd be suprised if he refused the offer. But lets not compare the kkk to the NAACP, the kkk is openly racist group that will stop at nothing short of white supremecy. The NAACP only strives for racial equality.

I don't think that the NAACP contributes positively to race relations in 2004. That is the quickest and simplest way I can sum up my feelings. I happen to feel that way about the KKK as well, although they are much worse, they both have this in common. That was my point.
And George Bush is a dumbass, but kudos to him for declining the invitation. His decision to decline is not an insult to blacks, his policy is. I'm sure if it were a group of Saudis he'd be there drooling with dollar signs in his eyes but that's a different topic.
At least the KKK has the guts to put their agenda out in the open. :D (I can't wait to see the reaction this gets...)
Bush was at a recent pro-black meeting. He cited that Democrats take for granted the black vote...in which he's right...and he also stated that if there's no competition for the black vote, then there's no benefit to the black voters...which he's right...BUT...the republican party has most often thwarted attempts at pro-minority.
Example:
Republicans want a uni-lingual culture. In other words, it wants to deculturalize non-Anglo-American cultures and assimilate them into the American culture to create one unity culture.
Republicans want to make English the only language in the United States as the standard language...with no regard to any other languages. So those who are deficient in English must adapt, regardless.
These 2 examples are but the many examples of why I never liked Republicans and they can go to hell.
Well yeah, Bush went to that Urban convention thing, I saw on c-span the other night. At least they were respectful, unlike the leader of the NNACCP.

I understand that English should be the primary language...but it shouldn't be eradicated. Republicans are traditionally opposed history from other cultural perspectives. For instance, in the 1900's, they banned history of the US 1800's by the African American perspective, and in 1950, they banned US history from the Japanese perspective of WW2. I don't mind trying to set a unity standard, but don't throw cultures away because they don't agree with your views.Quote:

I disagree. I mean, come on were developing the Hydrogene Engine, and Bush approved 1 billion for it. An that's may only be a stepping stone to actual change in this country. I'd say in the next 20 years we will have a nation not dependant on foreign oil. Republicans are conservatives by nature. That doesn't mean every conservative is a republican. I know people have mixed political views...but the purist conservatives are the people I hate most.Quote:

I am now communicating in English, yet that is not my mother tounge. However, I can now read Poe, Wihtman, Byron or Shakespeare. By refusing to learn another language you are closing doors to the understanding of a culture. For example, without knowing Spanish you can't read Lorca in his original message, and without reading in Italian you cannot read Dante, and German for Schopenhauer, and French for Baudelaire, and Latin for Virgilius, and Arab for the Koran, etc.
Of course, I am not saying you need to learn new languages now. But denying the teaching of foregin languages in schools is nearly chauvinistic.
I think Bush did the right thing not meeting with the NAACP president. I see the guy as more as a racist than a leader. Not Bush, the NAACP leader.
