Gator: It's what's for dinner.

I've got a few free minutes to kill, so I thought I'd hop on the forums and make a thread for the first time in a while.

A couple weeks ago, I went with my girlfriend's family to a small restaurant off the beaten path of I-80 in Utica, IL called The Cajun Connection. Among the specialties served there was something called Gator Bites. Yeah, gator.

I was reluctant to try some, but I didn't have much choice after my girlfriend's stepdad ordered some for me. As it turned out, it wasn't so bad after all. It tasted something like a mix of chicken and calamari. More like chicken, though, since all meats taste like chicken to some degree.

So first, if you're in that area, I highly recommend you check that place out. Second, it begs the question of whether anyone has tried munchin' on a little something like gator. Rabbit, maybe? Deer? Duck, perhaps?

What would you consider your most favorite (provided you have one) alternative meat?

My favorite meats are eel, octopus, pork, beef, and buffalo. I'm not a big fan of chicken, and I don't really like rabbit. I've tried a lot of fish, most of which I like. I haven't tried many other meats than those.

I've had gator, rabbit, deer, duck, goose, pheasant, squirrel, and uh... other stuff.

They are all pretty good eatin'.

Have you ever had ostrich meat? They serve it at a restraunt near my home called "Rattlesnake Ranch" Along with chicken, gator, duck, and steak.

ostrich meat is bad ass. buffalo is pretty good, but ostrich is better.

of course, nothing beats people meat.

I eat chicken meat.

Veal is my favorite meat then salmon and chicken.

I really like duck.

Duck, pheasant, goose, kangaroo, squid (calamari).

Long lives eels so I can eat them!!

I don't eat meat or seafood but I do eat a kind of substitute. It is called 'not bacon'(seriously!) and it is soy rashers but it is shaped like bacon and as far as I can tell it tastes like bacon(haven't had bacon since I was little). But I guess 'not bacon' doesn't really count as meat.....

I haven't tried that...but i have tried calamari before...very....chewy.

I don't eat any meat except chicken. FSIH AND SQUID IS BAD BAD BAD!!! Well; that's my opinion.

I feel like a sheltered child...I never eat any of that.Lobster is about as uncommon of a thing as I have ever eaten...and I hated it.So...Beef,Chicken,and thats basicly it.No rabit-we raise rabits and its desturbing to see your pet in a stew pot

I hate to eat rabits but chicken is fine!

Hm...basically i've eaten all named domestic animals. And by 'named' i don't mean 'Spot' or 'Ginger'... ;)

All seafoods cept whale, seal, penguin, dolphin, shark...must try dolphin one o these days...i'll add it to the list.

Also gotta get a photo of me ridin the A-Bomb. I already got the camera - i'm halfway there.

Mmm dolphin. I can taste Flipper right now.
