easy topic.....what did you really hate in a past FF that you would never ever want them to put in again.
for example, chill on the puzzles and games. i like to have the option of doing them, but when you have to or you wont get all the ending or powerful weapons, it can be a pain second, third or ninth times around.
also Summons...never again (only joking :love: )
Leveling up makes the enemies tougher. 8
Salary system 8
Ultimate weapons having drawbacks 7
Wimpy main charicter 10
Killing off a loved charicter 7
i liked the badguys getting tougher when we got tougher.
But that meant leveling up wouldn't help anything.
well leveling up meant that the fights could be funner, last longer, give you differnt items and exerpiance. it was easy enough to take diablos as soon as you got the lamp, then boost your HP to the thousands almost directly after.
Making love the plot focus. 8 It's been done too much by too many people already.
The enemies levelling up with you just meant you had to be a bit more creative on getting stronger. And that was innovative, in my opinion. What do I NEVER want to see ever again, though? Time limit mini-games. I'm more into thinking, not just....reacting. And I do agree the salary system wasn't very good, but it balanced out the stronger characters->stronger enemies system for those who wanted to keep their levels artificially low. I have to admit, the 1 or 2 healers ONLY in a party didn't agree with me though, or at least balance it out with half decent items in case the healer is snuffed.

Fair enough, but I kinda liked it better than the cold callousness of some other heroes. But then both leave a great deal for character development.
Enemies levelling up I liked, bosses levelling up just seemed a bit like defeating the point. 8
Not being able to get both stolen items and items for winning. 8
A card game that has no point whatsoever if it wouldn't be hard to give it one. 9
Mini-games that you have to do multiple times to get everything, that involve completing the same take ball here, take other ball somewhere else motions and are repeated several times throughout the game anyway. 10
A game set underwater that then takes away the third dimension (what was the point?). 10
A mini-game before a final boss that is based on bad camera angles and takes ages (bad frickin camera angles???????) 10
A mini-game that involves pressing the same button 200 times and resets if you miss one. 10
A completely linear travel through the game and not letting you fly an airship. 10

The draw system. Characters became way too similar and choosing a party was too easy.

The one thing I really hate about FF games, are the constant random-battles. No FF game is without those painfully long waste-of-time boredom.
I don't want random battles abolished. Just toned down a bit.
Well you got a point there...but you gotta agree with me that they can get on your nerves. For example; you spend hours of getting through a level and then get killed right before the boss by a monster...that happened to me once in Final Fantasy IIj. So I had to re-do the whole level, and do you know how painfully long the dungeons are in FFII????
And they're even without save spots, AHHH I wanted to smash my head against the walllllll!!!!
This is true. But without a certain degree of random battles, how do you level up effectively, and guage progress? I mean, should I be having trouble in RANDOM battles, I'd definately wait to take on the big kahuna.

Rubedo: You wouldn't believe how many times I smashed the controller when I got into a stupid random battle... Actually, they aren't that bad or anything; I have just played FF for a long time and am getting tired of them...
Maybe there should just be a control in the status screen. So when you wanna level up, you're inundated with 'em, and when you gotta get to a save point ASAP, you can shut them off, or all but.
Final Fantasy 8 - 10-2 in general. I pretty much hated everything about them :p
What shouldn't ever be in FF again?
- A whiny, stuck-up, annoying damsel-in-distress, love interest, female lead character. *coughs*Rinoa*coughs*
- The hero being under 18. If the heros get younger every game, we'll soon have a 4 months old saving the world.
- A final boss that has no background/purpose and that you only hear about 5 minutes before the end of the game.
Like Necron perhaps?
Card game. Ugh. It's not even a GOOD CCG, it's just a crummy way of getting you to spend more time playing the game. It's basically just dominoes only it has more rules and isn't as much fun to dominate people in. In fact, I don't even want there to be a good CCG in FF. When I play a game, I don't like side-quests much. It's like watching a movie and then having another movie start playing at the same time. Damnit, I want to watch them separately!
I'm going to agree that FF shouldn't be online anymore. One online game is enough. I've started playing FFXI now, and I'm enjoying it, but not only is all the content fairly intimidating, it's also the sorta thing you gotta do all the time to maximize your experience. I don't exactly want to spend every free moment playing video games.
Characters with supercliche mysterious backgrounds. If someone doesn't know much about his or her past, you can pretty much guarantee he or she has an EXTENSIVE past with the central villain. I think it's not very interesting and they've already exhausted what they can do with that archetype. I think they should look for new sorts of characters.

Absence of a World Map (X)
Characters being extremely similar in abilities (VII & VIII)
Absence of a Super Boss

Towns that aren't accessible at the end of the game.

Everything I see here is about FFVIII... Personally I thought it was a great game. It was a really refreshing break from the cookie-cutter cloning of general FF. It felt like they actually, y'know... Spent more than 5 minutes coming up with stuff. That and it took risks!
Personally, though, the one thing I never, ever want to see is a direct sequel. As far as I'm concerned, FFX2 didn't happen.

I'm not one to judge FF games for what they should or should not be. I used to be quite judgemental and demand that everyone like FFVIII. I've learnt to respect other's peoples opinions, whether they original or generated through silly conformism (that's right, you know who you are) as well as love a game for what it is.

There's only 2 things I've disliked, and won't mind seeing them go.
1. Being required to play whatever minigame. Granted, I really liked FFX's Blitzball, but I've hated all the card games, FFX-2's version of Blitzball, and Sphere Break.
2. Random Battles. Chrono Cross was great in that I only had to fight when I wanted to. Which pretty much meant bosses only. Glad that FFXII is doing away with random battles, here's hoping they get rid of the required minigame too.
And I believe those make topics like these shouldn't exist, because they have no right to to tell what should and shouldn't exist.Quote:

Uh...FFVIII's junction system, like many have said, mini-games that are required in order to get some of the best stuff (damn all that crap in FFX and FFX-2).
Not everybody is good at those mini-games, but they have to be if they want some of the best weapons in the game :mad2:. If they're gonna' force the mini-games, they could at least make the requisitions lower (getting a 0.00 in the chocobo thing in FFX is impossible for me :().
But it doesn't give you the right to attack the game when someone mentions it. Something you do over and over again. One little mention, and boom, you make these stupid attacks. I love all FF games! FFX-2 too, and FFX and FF8, FF7, FF6, FF5, FF4, FF3, FF2, FF, FFT, FFMQ even FF9 although this one was too childish and easy but I still love it.
There is nothing wrong with FF games. Card games are great! The only thing I would like never to happen again - getting ultimate weapons in minigames, I think minigames should remain sidequests.

The number one thing that should never be in an FF ever again is *drum roll* FFX. Bahahah, just joshin'. I really mean that what makes FFX so bad should never be put into an FF again. Linearity, poor voice acting, an excruciatingly annoying main character, the CTB, and cliche villains are things that I never want to see in another FF ever again.

people say they hate random battles. i had this conversation with a pal...he started saying he hated random battles because he was killed by monsters, then he said he hated having to level up, then he took it to hating minigames and having to defeat bosses and fighting at all. i pointed out - all he wanted to do was watch the story and movies, yeah he replied, i said why not go to the cinima then.....you bought a sodding video game, what did you expect.
X2 is a perfect example of square careing. theres many people, like mattel, who just stick two fingers up at fans and cancel everything. with square fans are given a choice. if you dont like FFx2 then sod off and dont play it, there are those of us who do. no one makes you play a video game, you have the choice
Jolts, that race in FFx, first time it took me seven goes. when i played the game the second time to try the expert grid, i did the chocobo race first time :) that said i couldnt do the lightening strikes and they did peev me off royally, maybe minigames should offer a fan prize, like getting a character from a past FF or a weapon from a past FF

tasty, teh villian in X2 wanted to Kill EVERYTHING. he wasnt doing it for anyone. he was sick of war and peoples sins and crimes, so he wanted to simply end it all

The salary system. 8. It was really annoying having that as the only real source of income. Wouldn't be bad if you could get gil in other ways though.
Trance. 9. Whilst playing a large part in the plot, it was rather annoying to lose your trance at the end of a battle, or in a simple random encounter before a boss.

well Heath, some people automatically used it as a chance to bash whole FFs, i just wanted people to share things that put them off differnt aspects of FF's, but it does take a pinch of maturity and a sprinkle of thought. :)
i agree, the trance was i felt, one of the worst uses of specil attacks in an FF, particully garnet, she would keep useing summons untill her bar ran out, but if she actually made a move...her bar ran out. at least with FF8 you could make use of redlineing as a battle tactic.
Point less weapons annoyed me, largely in FF7 when you got a cool looking weapon which seriously crippled your character, or weapons so handicapped there was no reason to use it.

Yeah. I think FFX had it perfect. A set gauge to see how long until you get a Limit, many triggers to let it grow (Stoic, healer, hero, etc.), and you can save it for as long as you'd like, without having to sacrifice physical attacks.

well to be honest mini games have never really pulled me.
i liked the ffVIII card game. However, i,d play ffVII bike rider the most. that rocked! snow boarding was class too though.
I liked the FFVII submarine mini-game too.
yeah that was sweet. at first i was awful though. had 2 get a friend 2 do it. but now i can do it in seconds.
also Sphere Break was the only mini-game in ffX-2 worth anything.
and how could i forget ffVII Chocobo racing??? thats the best sub game ever!! i could play all day...
FFVII's Chocobo Racing was fun, but once you played the game Cocobo Racing, FFVII's version is never quite the same.

no more, let's save the universe 2gether. i say, u start off with a simple and easy enemy with your set casts. then a main character gets twisted and becomes a super powerful and evil bad guy bcuz something happens. then you have to stop him/her. at the end of the day (after defeating them), they change their evil ways (no allusion 2 santana intended :cool: )
and no more moogles saying "kupo". it was kewl the first couple games, but COME ON. it sounds like a pokemon 4 gudness sake (tho pokemon was awesome).

i recall ffII did that story line, VERY badly. if done well that could be preety cool.

According to the trailer to Chocobo Dungeon 2, it actually is pronounced "choke-o-bo."
That storyline is somewhat used in Breath Of Fire: Dragon Quarter, but the game sucks, overall (if you've ever played it, you'll know why I say that).
I'm not neccesarily saying Chocobo Racing, the game, is better, because everybody has their own opinions. You now know my opinion. By the way, the trailer to Chocobo Dungeon 2 is on the Chocobo Racing disc ;).
no more bad voice actors. i kno that;s hard to do when square is choosing, but i think the voice actor of yuna proves my point. in no way is she bad, she's great, but at times, okay often, she sounded like she was reading from the script. i thought the rest of the cast did a great job, especially auron and wakka. and i luv ffx, but there's GOT 2b a way to fix the lip syncing *i hate the dictionary*. it's the same as badly dubbed movies where the lips keep moving but there's no more sound, or vice-versa.
I REALLY wish i could get ff tactics in uk so i could decide if it is better then ffVII. :)
well i hate the choke way of saying it. so even if its said that way offically, it sounds silly imho, and i wont accept it. another thing voices tries to do is destroy how you say the names. i tend to stick with whst sounds cool :cool:
Yeah, I liked Auron's voice too. I like the way he yells in that "addrenaline rush" way before (SPOILER)fighting Yunalesca.
As for the lip syncing...yeah, Kingdom Hearts' voices were in sync with lip movement, why could FFX's be also? So they'd have to redo the animations, I know I'd be willing to wait for that.

an ex pal of mine was defeated by FF8 because of cerberus. he couldnt get past him. when i came to lend a hand i discoverd he had made on the the worst FF teams of all time....and i STILL beat cerberus with them.

Don't get me wrong, I like super bosses, they're fun, but it annoys me that most of the best stuff in the game can only be obtained through some weird sub-quest that would never ever occur to you if you didn't read the list of sub-quests on gamefaqs.com.
yeah...i hate that you would never know how to do or consider doing so many things that are only evident in guides
Killing off main characters.
Wimpy main characters (FFX)
Girly main characters (FFIX, FFXII)
Trance happening as soon as the bar fills up it should work like FFX's overdrive it can be saved for another battle.
The level u psystem in FF2 should never be used again. Sure it's different but there was nothing wrong with the old one. Too many main characters dying is bad. I don't want the dying to end, but not so many of them. With random battles I think their should be less of them but have them worth more exp. I hate fighting every 2-3 steps. It starts to piss you off after so many years. The overly used cliched characters got to go. Wimpy and out of nowhere final bosses shouldn't happen again. I'm not so much against voice acting but I hate the way they butcher names sometimes. I always just go with what sounds cool over how it's spelled and often while reading the script I'll rewrite what's being said in my head to make it sound cooler or have more sense. It says the same idea but I like it better. I HATE mandatory mini-games. Most of the time I can't stand the game and even if I do like it I want it to be optional. No more Charlies Angels/Girl Power games either.

i hate how in nine the how you can't hold back the trance move... but i personally loved 9 alot
i kinda would like to see it w/ voice actors...

Rubedo: But first, I'm going to mention some things that I do want to see more of in a Final Fantasy game. For one, limitbreaks/overdrives having a large role to play with the story, rather than something that only occurs in battles. I remember when I first played FFIX, and after I could partially see Vivi go into trance mode on the airship, I tingled with anticipation. Seeing Kuja (SPOILER)destroy Terra by shooting Ultima all around him was spectacular as well, as he only had access to that move once he entered Trance.
Trowa: As for what we don't want to see... there were quite a few things. Random Battles occuring way more, and entering the battle screen more slowly is what I am talking about. I don't know how many times we have complained about not having on-screen enemies, but oh well, that is only a minor flaw as when you are trying to level up excessively, you will be glad that you can enter a battle very quickly... Yeah... *Sits and stares and sits and stares and sits and stares*
chaos: In FFVIII, I didn't like the salary system either. Sure it made a game more realistic, but then again, this is fantasy. It might not have made sense to see money spewing out of corpses of dead monsters, yet, I found it the only way I"d get loads of money. In FFVIII, I completely detested raising my SeeD rank, considering after a few minutes, it would go down.
Albedo: *laughs maniacally* This one should count too, considering it angered all of us for a long, long time. In FFX, the tedious tasks you required to complete in order to get the Ultima Weapons. Lulu's Onion Knight being one of them. Dodging 200 lightning bolts? If you slip once, it's game over. Same goes with Tidus' Chocobo training thing... Truly annoying.... *laughs maniacally*
Never ever ever ever have a cutisie child hero character. Relm, Gau, Cara, etc. Especially the latter. I was very annoyed when my party gets floored by a baddie, and she prances into the room and knocks him down with a BOLT spell.
Random battles just need some kind of minimum time between them. Two steps his just very obnoxious- you're crossing a room to get to a chest- BAM! random battle.. ok, that is to be expected, but now I can reach the BAM! ok damn... that was annoyiBAM!
No more online games that fall in the standard numerical sequence.
If at all possible, a removal of cheese-victory techniques. But this may be the fevered dream of a madman.
Random Battles are not that bad...it helps alot in leveling up aka Yuna in X-
The things that should never come back are:
X-Auto Life on the final boss.....you work so hard at getting there and well don't need to say more...
X-2.....monkey breeding mini game...how does that help you....... at all.
IX-Trance just to soon before boss....
X-2..Gunners Gaunlet mini game....I hated re-doing it with my record
VII-No good place to level up...
IX- so what is this Crystal thing you keep saying.... and who is Necron. I thought Kuja was the bad guy..lol

where the vixen of the group dies.....(FF7's Aerith)....she shouldn't have died....she annoyed Tifa...when she died who would annoy Tifa??? and get into fights over cloud (main character, etc.) IT'S NOT RIGHT!!! :(
FFX-Sphere Grid. I could never get those level 4 key spheres, and it was so hard to get to the abilities that i wanted.
FFIX-Having 2 white mages. God i had a hard time choosing which one i would use every time i played. I mean garnet had the more summonings, buy eiko had better spells.
