Yunalesca's first form shouldn't be a problem for you but basically just keep your health up.
The second form is a little tricky but with a little pre-battle knowledge, you can get past her. Don't remedy Zombie when she inflicts you with it. Instead, leave your characters in Zombie status. Rely on switching characters out instead of healing. Basically, just keep fighting with the same Zombied party until you health is dangerously low. Switch characters out instead of wasting turns to heal Zombied characters.
Make sure you have a Zombied party when she switches into her third and final form because she'll use Mega Death. 100% chance of killing NON-zombied characters.
Now, to make the second and third forms easy, I used Overdrives. Charge up all characters and aeons overdrives before the battle. Use the character drives on the second form and let the aeons rip for the third form. Should be much much easier this way.
just be aware that PENANCE is the hardest boss :D .

chaos: Anyhoo, she can be very easy if you follow these steps:
First, try to get most of the secret Aeons. They work very well in this battle, especially on the first form.
Next, make sure that you have levelled up like crazy. If you always stay one step ahead of the game, it'll be no sweat.
Now, in battle, I'll tell you how to defeat her. Have Yuna or someone similar to her always cure when Yunalesca drains. Auron and Tidus must be very powerful. Try to make them cut down on most of her life. Once you are done with her, the second and more annoying form will come up.
Rubedo: To take care of her, pretty much all ya gotta do NOT HEAl when she uses her Hellbiter, and when they die as a result of her healing you, just use a pheonix down. I actually felt safe with Hellbiter inflicted on me, and you will soon find out why...
Right when you defeat her, she will transform into her third and final form, and, she will use Mega-Death right of the bat. Do not think it is over though, for if your party, or most of your party is in zombie mode, nothing will happen to them. She will also inflict hellbiter in this form, along with way better curing attacks such as Regen and Curaga. Try to get Hellbiter inflicted on two people of your party, while the third one tries to keep themselves alive, because she will use Mega-Death randomly throughout the whole battle. Once you get all that, she's actually pretty easy.

If you have an NTSC version then Nemesis is the hardest boss, if it's PAL then Penance would indeed be the hardest. Nemesis is the only boss in the NTSC game that can do over 9,999 points of damage to fully leveled up characters, unless I'm forgetting something.
And actually, you can avoid the death attacks for the third form by summoning an aeon towards the end of the second form's lifespan - Aeons are immune to death attacks, and even if they weren't, their dismissal would just lead to your party coming back to the forefront anyway.

oh, in the NTSC version the enemies that can do over 9999 damage 2 max stat characters are...

Greater Sphere never does more than 9325 damage to my party, and I've never had Neslug do anything particularly damaging to it either. Now that you mention it, though, I think you're right about Th'uban or however it's spelled; I do remember it having one attack that completely screwed a character over. I don't think it hit the entire party though, but I could be wrong about that because I haven't fought it particularly often.
with Greater sphere he has that hp based move, hydralic press or sumthin. it does like alot of damage but its gravity based, sort of like demi or sumthin, except it can kill you. i have 45,000 hp, so it easily breaks 9999.
Neslug also has a move that ignores defense, megaton i believe. does about 35,000 to me!
so yeah i think i,m right. of course, without good stats, almost everything in the monster arena does more then 9999 :tongue: .

What's still problematic for you about the battle then? You might consider leveling up Yuna until she learns Holy; that makes the battle far easier, as Yunalesca has an innate weakness against Holy.

Use aeons. If that doesn work power up Yuna so that her aeons are better. The aeons are the solution to every hard battle I've ever faced in this game.
yunalesca was one of the easiest bosses for me.
the only thing that got me tired was her hp thats all.
i saved my aeons until her 3rd form.
i just used wakka, tidus, and auron for the offensive attacks against her 1 and 2nd form.
yuna was the esuna user or the healer.
and thats all there was to it.. wonder why it was so hard for you all..
and my strongest character is auron and he only has like 4300 hp and does like 2k damage.
not like you all with your 99999 hp and 20k damage x.x

whatever you dou dont take zombie off. or she will b forced to use mega death on her third form cuasing a suprising end to the battle. she will use it when u get her to the health of her previous forms aswell. when she casts regen on a zombie just get somebody to use esuna. and also if u have two underdog secrets kick her butt with sunburst HAPPY NOW LILLIE???
I'm done with Yunaleasca she was esey, I'm at Sin now and almost done with him mahahahaha. The people I used for Yunaleasca was: Tidus, Yuna, and Rikku. And I never healed zombie from my people.
But when I was done with her I had like: 349 HP left...
I only have the FFX not the 1 you guy's have...*crys* This isn't good my keyboard is sobed with tears.
Oh yeah! back to Yunaleasca, I didn't have Holy for Yunaleasca, It would of been fun if I did mahahaha

I found "Holy" to be of great use in this battle. About 4 of 'em took her down plus some little tricks of my own. But at first I didn't have holy, and I was attempting it like 20 times before I decided to go level up and get holy, (which I had not known about), and then life was easy.
Too bad my friend laughed at me for not knowing about it and trying for forever. :)
The hardest boss to defeat is definatly Braska's Final Aeon, especially if you don't power your chracters up a lot and you don't have Anima or The Magus Sisters
to beat yunalesca use your aeons and save your overdrives. turn one of your people into zombie before the 3rd form death dosen't affect zombies. then steal from yunalesca. you'll recieve talisment if you have auron(or anyone over 6,540hp) use them on thawt person their life will sky rocket to 9,999hp. then use as manyover drives as possible oh and have all your aeons on overdrive. that'll help.
The simplest way would be to equip some zombie and death proof armor.
yep...but cha know what..? i didn't have any.. :( i had to do it the hard way...so if ya can turn around go get armor to protect yourself against death and zombie...although i can't garentie that'll work...
she was surprisingly easy for me. my brother told me to go and get sphere levels but i didnt want to and i killed her it was funny
getting death and zombie proof armor is easier said than done sometimes. grrrrrrr........Yunalesca was the boss that made me hate playing ff X
Maybe not the hardest but most certainly the cheapest, i have said these quotes dosens of times when i was trying to beat her: "damn it! I'm zombified!" & "Damn it! I'm dead!!!"
I'm not sure where to get deathproof, but you can get zombieproof/ward by getting candles of life from the zombies in Zanarkand.

yeah, Seymour's pretty hard. he beat me once in Mt. Gagazet and broke my victory streak. :weep: i hate that stupid lance that zombifies me! :mad2: that's how i lost! after that, i came back to kick his $#@! :hahaha:
Yunalesca is the hardest boss so far , her 2d form keep recovering 4000 hp while I hit 3000 on her, Of course "go leveling" is the solution , but somebody got a really good advice, some weak poitn ( I tried Phoenix down since she´s dead Lollll... but that doesn´t work).

Yeah, but he can also replenish his health, which makes him harder. So in theory you can never lose that battle, since you're in a constant state of Auto-Life.
he would probably be hard on my memory card but i used my friends, heh. he spent around 110 hours in the game and got all the good stuff. every one of my characters hit 9999 every time.
the first time i played ffx was when my friend brought it over and she was on that part and i was in the last stage of kiling her i was so close. but i died. :cry: i've already finished x-2 but i'm waiting for her to finish x so i can play it.
She's not THAT hard. yea, if your a beginner at ff's.
Well it was sorta designed in a sense that beginners would find it easy. You can switch weapons/armor in the middle of battle, battle is turn based and not active, all status effects disappear after battle, healing is easy, Inns are free. This is sorta like an enrty level RPG, but a bit more challenging. So good for those who have played one or two prior.
When I reached Yunalesca I was still annoyed at the spectral guardian, so I decided then and there I was NOT going to loose.
Yunalesca's first form casts blind on anyone who attacks her and mute on anyone who casts spells on her. Repeatedly swapping out characters works well. She'll go down quickly enough.
Round 2 has her zombifying and curing your characters. This is fun because if you use remedy or holy water she'll still cure you. Take your time and whittle her down slowly.
In her third form leave your characters zombified. If all 3 are alive mega-death will kill them all. Use your strongest attacks here. She's immune to pretty much all status ailments so just hack away. Let her cure your zombified characters to death, then revive them. The team that worked best for me was Yuna, Auron and Kimahri, though anyone who hits hard will work well. Do NOT use Aeons unless it's as a Grand Summon, because Yunalesca can auto-kill them, much like Seymour.
you know the easyest way is to beat her first form then use mega phionexeds on the koed 2 the revive the other one and make sure you have one zombied person left in your party at her first form and just blast her with bahumut's overdrive then valfors then use tiduses ultimate overdirve which if you have warrior setting you shuld have by then.
By capturing monsters for the arena I was able to get 60 Farplane Winds, which I used to add Deathproof to an armour with Zombie Ward. That, combined with character overdrives and Haste got me through it.
Oh yeah, for the first battle, giving Wakka, Tidus or Auron an armour with Darkproof is really useful (keeping them safe from Yunalesca's counters).

Heya.
Yunalesca was _extremely_ easy for me, but luck played a HUGE part. Example, I didn't even know that Mega Death affected non-zombified chars, I simply ran out of Holy Waters. Also, my Tidus character was pretty strong, hitting like 2000 or so. Doesn't seem strong, but it's useful.
Then, however, through my recent second play through, she was quite the boss. After losing once, I do what I always do, and thus is my advice;
Run around the ruins for a while, leveling is extremely easy with Lulu and Tidus as your main characters, because the big 'kicking' machina, and the 2 back row cannons give off rediculously huge amounts of AP. Not only that, but it is so simple to charge your Aeon's overdrives. 1-2 battles is all it takes, simply fight a weak enemy such as the rifle monks, and have boost on your elemental aeons. This way, if they're hurt, simply cast their elemental spell, to have a healing effect.
When you're fighting Yunalesca, I'd use Yuna, Lulu and Tidus. Have Tidus and Yuna in overdrive mode (with all aeons in overdrive, bahamut a possible exception, though extremely helpful), and Lulu casting Fira/Firaga on the boss. Her first form is very simple, do not use any overdrives, just melee with Tidus, and cast spells with Lulu. Press triangle to defend with Yuna, as you'll need her Esuna spell to fix Yunalesca's darkness-inflicting counterattack.
When you're at the second form, is when Lesca starts inflicting Zombie status regularly. You can heal Zombie right up until the end, where it is a nessesity all your party members are inflicted, else they'll be instantly KO'd in the third form. Continue melee and spells with Tidus and Lulu, and when the second form is almost dead, use Tidus' Slice and Dice overdrive to finish her quickly.
Lesca's third form is where it really gets fun. Immediatly start pummeling her with Aeon overdrives, using the weakest first (Ifrit and Ixion mainly). Don't stop using any overdrive you have, and if you charged Bahamut's, grand summon him for a double overdrive, however if you didn't charge it, still grand summon him as his overdrive is extremely useful.
She should be dead in no time, but please note luck plays a good role in this battle, and it may take you more than a couple tries, just like Evrae.
Be sure to go up and down the stairs after the Yunalesca fight until a chest appears, with the Sun Sigil/Crest, it is essential to Tidus' Celestial Weapon!
After a short sequence that I won't spoil, you can now go back to blitzballing and your airship can take you anywhere, your reward for beating this boss!
i thought most bosses and maybe even all of em 2 b easy in the entire game...even yunalesca
Yunalesca was a pushover, killed her first try no problem, her keepers took longer and were harder, I agree that Seymour 3rd form is the hardest boss Pre-Sin.
to me Yunalesca is an easier version of Ultimecia from ff8 but she is very hard make sure you have good medicine aeon abilities with full overdrives and all your chars at least half overdrive charged
